Dialogue goes a long way.

And I agree about EarthBound. I loved the writing and characters in that game.
I would totally read a MOTHER novel trilogy.
It was written by a famous Japanese novelist, so there is that. Itoi is a genius.

What I love about Mother is that it really feels like living in a world a child conceived, even down to the social problems.

Right. I think we both could have done better to avoid the hostility that took place. Time and time again, miscommunication is the true conflict here.

Regardless of our individual standings on characters and their personalities, we can both agree that as a video game first and foremost, the personality of a character is completely irrelevant to where they should stand in joining the roster. Chrom, K. Rool, Ridley, Pac-Man--if they have unique moveset potential, that's what matters most, right?
I actually want to believe that a characters personality isn't completely immaterial. I do agree with the sentiment that unique move-set potential is more important, but I don't believe that a characters personality should be utterly irrelevant.

For the most part, personality seems irrelevant, as it should be. As a video game first and foremost, characters shouldn't be added based on who is the most well-written, but rather by what they've done for Nintendo as a whole as well as what potential they have in gameplay. It doesn't matter how loveable someone is--if they aren't fun to play as, they shouldn't be in a video game. Probably a different story altogether if we were talking about writing a Nintendo crossover visual novel or something.

I don't necessarily mean the character that is the best written. I mean, characters with unique personalities. Say; Hades (Palutena), for instance. I already asserted that perceived move-set potential should be the priority, but "how fun the character plays" is more directly dependent on how Sakurai develops them. It doesn't really have to do with their raw potential. He can make a character with very little very fun, or he can make a character with a lot not very fun. Again, it should take a back-seat to the actual move-set, but incorporating personality is what makes the character feel alive. It is one of the first things people noticed with King Dedede. It is relevant. Just not as relevant as I personally want it to be (-hint subjective -hint).

You should NOT be happy with Ike's return.
I was a little unsure about Ike, due to Roy being cut in Brawl, but I hoped that he would have a high chance of returning.

Edit:
Really people, it's obviously a joke thread. It's like something that BKupa would make.

Gene threads are always great.

Though it amazes me how every time there's people who take it seriously.

Do you believe the Sal Romano Leak? If that is the case, why do you not have Mii characters or Chrom on your roster? I mean, Chorus Men are typically (and by typically, I mean "only") associated with that leak.
Well, it depends.
I feel like Rhythm Heaven has merit even without the leak and I strongly dislike the fact that people dismiss a Rhythm Heaven rep because it is part of leak. Seriously, I think that series deserves some sort of representation and this is coming from a person who hadn't played the game before the direct. I wanted find out who Chorus Men were so I bought the game and I fell in love with it. That game has a lot of potential reps and the possibilities are endless.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo, my actual roster!

Ridley? Robin? Excitebiker? Not following the Sal Ramono leak? 51 characters? "Zamus"?
Am I insane? What scientists say may surprise you.
Um... Wow, I'd actually be really satisfied with this roster. Probably my only real complaint would be the lack of Snake, but I can't exactly fault you for cutting him.

So, really nice roster. Bonus points for having Robin, by the way. Clearly you have good tastes.

I am not dismissing a Rhythm Heaven representative, I am disregarding the notion that Chorus Men would be the most likely.

I also like this roster. Your inclusion of quirky characters like Chibi Robo and the RH Glee Club make up for the lack of the likewise lesser known Isaac.
I take issue with awarding F-Zero a second character before Metroid, though.

We have 30 characters. And remember that before Brawl's release we only had third parties and the starters. We then got unlockables, which were veterans and newcomers alike.

We'll have more characters. For God's sake we have a 90 minute smash direct at E3. And then E3 itself. We'll see something.
The Q&A is 90 Mins not the Direct right?
PS: Who said anything about a Direct? Is it announced they will be a 2nd Direct at E3?

Here's an interesting question.

So would you all have a FE roster that had Marth, Ike, and Roy? Or, would you rather have one with Marth, Ike, and a newcomer. You HAVE TO pick one.

Marth, Ike, and a newcomer. That one is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo easy that it is ridiculous. At least with the newcomer option you might get a good character. Even if you don't, as least we aren't stuck with a semi-clone.

Quick question guys: Robin vs. Chrom for 3rd FE rep? Pros and cons. Guys on IGN won't talk about it.

I think Robin's a better choice, more variety, magic, more unique, could call units to battle for him/her instead of just being combat-only, could have male and female costumes, etc.

Thoughts?
Reason we won't talk about it is due to TBGamerDragon (I forgot his name on here) bringing it up EVERY TIME and starting a five page argument that lasted a year. We're tired of beating the damn horse every time Fire Emblem and Robin is bought up.

If anyone should be in the game, Roy, Lucina, and Micaiah should be considered. Not ****ing Robin

Pretty much everyone wants Robin and thinks that he/she could bring a ton of new things to the table.

But most everyone is betting on Chrom for various reasons. Mainly marketing ones.
Not me. As long as the third rep isn't Robin or Anna, I'm good

@Dillo64 Wait a minute, don't I know you from IGN? I was SuperSmashBros.Fan on it.
Yep that's him

I like it. No stupid characters, no bloated franchises, good choices for unrepped series.

51 characters feels a little much, though. Not sure who you'd cut. 8/10

EDIT: I didn't even blink when I invented the word "unrepped". Seriously, what is this place doing to me?

Nope.
Samus is one character who had two movesets, now given two slots because of a removed game mechanic.
While this is better than say, Mario and Dr. Mario, they're still the same person in different suits.
I didn't say that she wasn't the same person, I asserted that she was a different character. She was a different character when she wasn't her own slot.

Aside from the Puff(who's in due to veterancy), I doubt any of the other 'possible veterans' are coming back, and aside from Chrom, I really don't see those newcomers happening. Fan-favorites, well, when has Sakurai paid much attention to that aside from maybe giving them a larger space on the dartboard he uses to decide on characters?

At this point, I wouldn't even count on Puff and the O12 veterancy to be relevant. Little Mac's neutral-B easily replaces Falcon Punch in both utility and power, and he moves at about the same speed. I could see Puff, Falcon, Ness and G&W at-risk, if not gone already.
Captain Falcon CUT!?!?!???!??!
