That thread was probably just a joke thread; that being said, I am very happy with Ike's return. Even if that somehow entails that we will not get another Fire Emblem newcomer.

I'm fine with just Marth and Ike for this game as well, although I'd be ecstatic if Roy returned as well.

I mostly like it. I think Excitebiker makes for a better assist though.
I would replace him with Mach Rider.
Or Isaac.

When it comes to the Retro characters, it's really difficult to make a clear cut decision. My decision mostly is based on that the franchise is certainly recognizable, has been having titles in the franchise as the years have gone by, and a mounted character would certainly be unique (and so for not being able to jump, give it some springs! I mean if Samus can get jet boots out of nowhere it shouldn't be nearly as hard for the development team to think of something to allow a bike to get in the air).
Mach Rider could probably be a mounted fighter as well, but he isn't nearly as recognizable as Excitebiker (and I'd prefer Mach to not fight on his bike anyways, would seem a little clunky given it's size).

Um... Wow, I'd actually be really satisfied with this roster. Probably my only real complaint would be the lack of Snake, but I can't exactly fault you for cutting him.

I initially really wanted to keep Snake on there, but I unfortunately just don't think it's going to happen anymore.

Hmm, i like the idea of excite biker, but the realist in me says "maybe not." I'd replace him with Krystal or Isaac, but that's just me

As I said before it's tough to hit the nail in the head when it comes to the retro characters. But if I did replace Excitebiker with another character, I would aim to replace him with another retro character.

Thank you, out of curiosity where do you see the character amount to be? I'm personally thinking along the lines of 48 - 52. So I do have to admit that my roster is a little on the higher side.

I quite like your roster, A little one the safe side but Excitebike and Robin saves it from being safe.
This might sound stupid but maybe add back Snake to make it a round number of 52?
Anyways pretty solid roster, wouldn't mind this at all.

I also like this roster. Your inclusion of quirky characters like Chibi Robo and the RH Glee Club make up for the lack of the likewise lesser known Isaac.
I take issue with awarding F-Zero a second character before Metroid, though.

I would be satisified if that was the final roster...except Robin needs to be cut and replaced by someone better. I would love the idea of Excitebiker, but he might be better as a AT even though good retro rep. 51 characters might be a bit of a stretch

You sir, have created a roster I can get behind just fine. Nothing too outlandish and all of the important characters most people want. Good job!

I've tried to make a roster based around heavy cuts and fewer newcomers.
It's not a roster I'm particularly fond of, but it is one I could see coming true.

44 characters.

I've cut Snake, Ivysaur, Squirtle, Lucas and Falco (interchangeable with Wolf).
I've only added newcomers that I think are most likely, and they're all fairly conservative.
(Mii, Pac-Man, Chrom, Palutena)

Obviously, this is pretty low compared to most people's expectations, so it would be difficult to thrilled with it.
It's not bad, though; I'd be content with a roster like this. How about you guys?

Mega Man, Lucario, and Ike are already in, Mewtwo I'm confident will return, and I doubt Roy and especially Ridley will get in. King K. Rool is the only one left that I can place him anywhere in. If he's confirmed to be at E3 2014, then I will have no more reasons to follow the speculation scene as three of my most wanted characters (Mega Man, King K. Rool, and Mewtwo) will all be in and I'll have the roster I dreamed of in Brawl.

I actually agree with you. Technically they were never officially confirmed cut. So unless too many Pokemon is deemed a good reason, I feel they have as much a chance as anyone. Heck, I'd like to see them come back because I hate seeing characters cut.
That said, eight characters from one series is a lot for a roster under 60. So I won't hold my breath. If anyone got cut, those two seem likely.
I wish the trailer had confirmed their fate though. Charizard could have taken off, leaving his old companions and trainer behind as they looked on, with bittersweet pride.

I can see him being in potential danger now with custom movesets, but I can see the development team decloning his specials more before they scrap him entirely. As for Excitebiker, that's what i was aiming for so yeah.

Pretty sure we'll see Star Fox remain at three characters, there's no reason for it to go down one if there are no time constraints.

Now I have two topics I'd like to hear opinions on.
One, how many characters is too many? Is there a limit? Is that limit 50, and why?

Two, do the people who want Black Shadow simply want him as the new Falcondorf so Ganon can become a real boy? Or do you like the character?
If the former, how would you feel about Mach Rider as Falcondorf with a twist: his vehicle?
He would have a full moveset off of his bike, but he could hop on via his side B, like Wario does, but unlike Wario, he would have a mounted laser gun. So he could drive the bike, fire with A, boost with B, possibly jump, and jump off or be knocked off at any time.
So a partial movset while mounted.

Edit: But to be honest, I don't think such low expectations are realistic. I know it's good to have low expectations... but Mewtwo, Ridley, and K Rool are the most requested characters, so to see 0/3 make it would just be... weird.

Edit 2: I also don't think cutting veterans for the sake of cutting veterans is realistic, especially Falco. Falco and Lucas may not be necessary, but they're veterans, so they don't have any reason to go. I definitely see Squirtle and Ivysaur leaving, and that's also a possibility for Snake, but I'm only 50/50 on him, and the rest I'm confident on.

Here's an interesting question.

So would you all have a FE roster that had Marth, Ike, and Roy? Or, would you rather have one with Marth, Ike, and a newcomer. You HAVE TO pick one.

Heck, in a 10-character FE roster I'd pick 8 newcomers over Roy. No want for him whatsoever.
I'd miss him if there was something to miss. But if Marth gets a red color swap with red hair, then that fulfills all 0% of me that wants to play as Roy again.

I don't think it's too difficult to make trophies. So I might base off some more picks off the 2 popularity polls. I'd say anybody in the top 10 deserves it. I agree with every character you chose though, and I see you tried to avoid spoilers, I could see them taking that route. As long as they don't have a trophy of Lucina called unmasked Marth, they'd need to separate the 2

I would be extremely disappointed if this were the final roster. There's just not enough newcomers or mewtwo to justify the amount of cut vets. Also, a roster with only five more characters than brawl just seems kinda lame.

These are good character choices, but I personally expect at least 4-10 more characters in the actual roster.

I think its actually a really nice roster. Im not a big fan of rosters with anything more that 45 characters. The only changes I'd make would be to switch Pacman with Ridley. Other than that, it all seems pretty reasonable.
