My opinion? It would be that Sakurai is a mouth-breather and should probably be put in Assisted Living before he kills himself trying to reach the canned peas or something. Anything less than playable is unacceptable, no matter how many "consolation prizes" we get, and Sakurai, as a fully-functioning human being, should know that. What would your opinions be if we got, say, two or three really good and requested newcomers from this direct but some sort of adventure mode was shown off and Ridley was confirmed as a boss again.
This seems very unreasonable to me. I can think of many reasons as to why Ridley potentially shouldn't become playable, ranging from technical issues (making the animations for his wing span, tail, and long neck work properly), aesthetic issues (making him look decent if shrunken down), balancing issues (biggest = slowest? How viable is the hitbox?) or conceptual issues (is his Smash Bros. incarnation an accurate representation of how he is in the Metroid games?). I'm a new user here so I don't know if this kind of behaviour is the norm (or if this is meant to be an inside joke I don't understand), but I certainly see no harm in understanding the challenges that Sakurai faces in implementing a character like Ridley into a fighting game like Smash Bros.My opinion? There's literally no reason Ridley can't or shouldn't be playable. If Sakurai makes the same "mistake" again, I'd question his skills as a developer even more than I do now. And let me tell you, I'm running out of questions.
The Direct would generally be bad news then, all things considered I generally don't give much of a crap about anyone else besides Ridley and K. Rool, and not even K. Rool would be able to mend the wound that a deconfirmation of Ridley would leave. I'd probably skip the rest of the speculation part of this game too, just waiting for the release of the game while checking trailers whenever they come out. The only reason I'm here and checking the updates each day is because of Ridley, revealing him as something besides a playable character would be the big hype killer. That's why I don't expect to learn of Ridley's fate until close to, or even post-release, since I'm certainly not the only one feeling like this, so it suddenly becomes a brilliant business move to keep Ridley at bay. What would your opinions be if we got, say, two or three really good and requested newcomers from this direct but some sort of adventure mode was shown off and Ridley was confirmed as a boss again.
I'd be dissapointed. But it wouldn't be the end of the world or anything. I guess it would depend on which characters that were added instead of Ridley. Though all in all, I'm pretty happy to just have Megaman. Him alone made Smash 4 a game I really want to buy. Still, Ridley is my 2nd most wanted character, so I'd be happy to play as him. Another boss fight would be cool. Just no where near as cool as it would be to use him yourself. What would your opinions be if we got, say, two or three really good and requested newcomers from this direct but some sort of adventure mode was shown off and Ridley was confirmed as a boss again.
Yeah, I can understand that Ridley, like any character could possibly have issues working in the game. So far, I don't think we've seen any major evidence point against him, nor have we seen much against him either. I can see his neck or tail being harder to work around than anything else. But it doesn't seem impossible either. Oh, and:That would be a really terrible Direct in my opinion. It begs the question on "What kind of newcomers are there who are really interesting and hype-inducing enough to bring a lot of attention to this game?" Ridley pretty much fits the criteria for newcomers, quote]
To be fair.
There's plenty that fit the same bill. Not just Ridley.
Implying that the newcomer we have aren't interesting.and to consider him "uninteresting" compared to the amount of new challengers that we've already gotten is just asinine.
These are all concepts that the userbase attributes to Ridley. They are not concepts that Sakurai attributes to Ridley. The only thing we know is that "He'd be a little slow".This seems very unreasonable to me. Implying that something being interesting isn't completely subjective.Implying that the newcomer we have aren't interesting.
So, folks, a little interesting thing happened:
Nintendo UK apparently updated and said Europe would see finally see KIU as a digital release this Wednesday (Updates are usually on Thursday)....but then it was soon removed.

Thoughts?
If anything.Posting from the Paletuna thread:

You're right that we don't know what might or might not prevent Sakurai from adding Ridley, but I think it's also fairly clear that a very large character is going to cause some problems in at least some areas of the game (I feel like maintaing game balance might be Ridley's biggest issue). I just don't think we should be demanding characters at all cost.If Sakurai seriously, straight-up CANNOT make Ridley playable, then that's incompetence. If some dude living in his mom's basement, using a laptop he bought at Best Buy, can make Ridley playable, Sakurai should be able to perfect it, not just stare, dumbfounded at Ridley and say, "WELL GEE, I GUESS HE JUST WON'T WORK".
It's just a European release. As someone who's European I can say that our release dates usually matter nothing to Nintendo.Posting from the Palutena thread:

It's my money, I'll demand what I want. That's my right as a consumer.I just don't think we should be demanding characters at all cost.
(I know, the show rocks.)(First thing's first, love the avi)
I'd also be genuinely disappointing to not see Ridley in the game, but i can't just not get the games. If Sakurai really cares enough about the roster to "Worry himself to near death" over it, then i'm pretty sure he's thinking of Ridley.
You never know, considering Sakurai did acknowledge Tropical Freeze's western release. It just seems pretty strange Nintendo UK would let that slip and just take it down afterwards, like if it were an announcement they were saving for later. It's just a European release. As someone who's European I can say that our release dates usually matter nothing to Nintendo.
Ofc it does, no one is saying he can't get in with only one game to his series' name (or at least they shouldn't), but obv having more games in the series would've helped. It doesn't influence ****, really.
Unless, again, there is some sort of magical criteria that says something can't get in because it's to recent or only has one installment I'm unaware of.
I guess arguments are unanimously either valid or invalid to you. It's weird, N3ON shoots down arguments that go against Isaac, but promotes arguments that go against Shulk...
Depends who the newcomers were before I get sad about Ridley. The forums would probably explode though. What would your opinions be if we got, say, two or three really good and requested newcomers from this direct but some sort of adventure mode was shown off and Ridley was confirmed as a boss again.
Huh... well I certainly hope we get Palutena, but like always we'll just have to wait and see. It very well could mean nothing.Posting from the Palutena thread:
If it wasn't for the fact that it also released in America it certainly wouldn't have been acknowledged, with years of experience being looked past by Nintendo I can guarantee that. You never know, considering Sakurai did acknowledge Tropical Freeze's western release.
ORRRRR....A newcomer just seems to be favoritism.
Notice how i said "personally". I don't think the fanbase for KI:U is enough to garner a newcomer along with all the benefits the franchise is already getting in sm4sh, especially when franchises like metroid and donkey kong have been getting the shaft when compared to how big of a fanbase they both have.ORRRRR....
He's just giving fans what they want.
Why would you even go to GameFAQs if you're not searching for "leaks"?That said, I don't have any worries about Ridley's chances. I've just been over at GameFAQs and I'm thoroughly worked up.
Doesn't matter who the newcomers were(as long as it isn't something abhorrent like goku or Lloyd irving), I really don't care personally if he was in the game or not. I would feel pity for the fans of him, because they probably love him as much as I do pacman, and It would be pretty ridiculous to completely ignore the fans, but ridley isn't really someone I feel connected to. But if pacman was deconfirmed, and replaced with ANY other Namco character or something ridiculous like bayonneta, I would consider not buying game. This, hands down, would be a major turn-off to me.What would your opinions be if we got, say, two or three really good and requested newcomers from this direct but some sort of adventure mode was shown off and Ridley was confirmed as a boss again.
It seems I'm a glutton for punishment. Why would you even go to GameFAQs if you're not searching for "leaks"?
He's giving the fans what they want now, I agree, but let's not forget, pretty much the biggest reason Palutena became a remote possibility in the first place was Sakurai's development of Uprising. This was the driving factor behind everyone calling Medusa and Magnus shoo-ins way back in the day as well. Had anyone else been developing Uprising, I'm quite sure that the typical mindset would be "Why add another Kid Icarus character?" not "Palutena is the single likeliest character, and a third 'rep' is possible as well" (though the third 'rep' talk is spurred on by GameFAQs trolls, to be fair).ORRRRR....
He's just giving fans what they want.
Nothing says they all can't get newcomers.Notice how i said "personally". As long as Mewtwo and King K rool still get in then I can live without Ridley however if they are also not playable then I will be disappointed massivelyWhat would your opinions be if we got, say, two or three really good and requested newcomers from this direct but some sort of adventure mode was shown off and Ridley was confirmed as a boss again.
Pretty much.K. Rool not playable? Plausible, if we get Dixie.
Ridley not playable? imo unlikely, but possible.
Mewtwo not playable? Getouttahere.
Speaking of which,is there another character that's as likely as Mewtwo? (excluding veterans)K. Rool not playable? Plausible, if we get Dixie.

Nope.Speaking of which,is there another character that's as likely as Mewtwo? (excluding veterans)
Huh. I was thinking that Takamaru might be close to it,but I'm apparently tripping balls right now.Nope.
Still holding out for Robin.Meanwhile I'm going to be the guy that cares more about the underdogs.
Because when you have an underrated character confirmed, there is a greater sense of satisfaction.
Really?Still holding out for Robin.
Only if that underdog is one you support though, and there are a lot more underdogs than highly-likely candidates.Meanwhile I'm going to be the guy that cares more about the underdogs.

Well he might be next after Mewtwo (I think Miis are also pretty inevitable), but there's some shadow of doubt for his chances strong as they might be, whereas Mewtwo... really doesn't have... like anything against him. He's the most popular character worldwide, he was planned thrice before, he's had recent important appearances, there's no new Pokemon that is anywhere near him in chances, he's used heavily in recent promotion, and Sakurai already mentioned he was being considered (or something along those lines).Huh. I was thinking that Takamaru might be close to it,but I'm apparently tripping balls right now.
Huh. Interesting. I'm not really sure what reason us Robin supporters have now to go to Chrom or Lucina instead. There hasn't exactly been any stunning new evidence that makes those two more likely and leaves Robin in the dust.Really?
I'd expect a few to begin to leave Robin for either Chron,Lucina,or @ BluePikmin11 's ever-so loving desire for the never-existant Chrom/Lucina duo
