It depends on if there will be time "slotted" for Smash during the Digital Event.

If there is, there's no reason to not have that big reveal in the main display of E3 and not just a side direct.
If not, Ryu and maybe Roy or Wolf.

Now I'm expecting that on Sunday they will reveal everything they have done by now (or almost done in a near future); which can count with Ryu, Roy, maybe Wolf, their respective stages and the Tournament Mode.. give us a release date and done.
~I can see this as a strategy to have the Digital Event free of any kind of Smash related thing, so they can keep up just with new games announcements (hopefully).

Pretty much my thoughts on this. The Direct would cover the Stages, Modes, Costumes, along with Lucas, Wolf and Roy while Ryu gets revealed later on in the day at the Nintendo World Championships; getting all Smash related news out on Sunday.

Roy WON'T b revealed at the FE concert. A Smash character has never been revealed outside of a Nintendo Direct or something directly related to Smash. The FE concert is Japanese exclusive, so it'd be really awkward to reveal him like that. More than likely, Sakurai will probably express his love for the Fire Emblem series and his contributions to it. Roy will most likely be revealed either in the Smash Direct or the Digital Event.

I would say they would wait to see how much profit Roy turns up, but this would be the perfect time to reveal a surprise character or two.

Do you really consider Young Link and Pichu to be hype worthy? I mean, as much as I like the two, I can't deny that Young Link isn't the most popular, and Pichu's fanbase is comprised of three people. (Exaggeration on Pichu but you get the point) If there is any hype generated I think it will only be because people will expect the veterans they want now more than ever.

I'm still thinking for the mini Direct but there have been plenty of times in the past where our expectations were dashed. Did anyone honestly foresee coming before they were officially revealed during their respective presentations?

If they think that little of a character why would they add them in the first place though?
I believe Miis were divisive characters too and they were what kicked off the Digital Event last year.

Yeah. I'm expecting characters like Ryu, Roy and Wolf....

but I'm also expecting the very real possibility of getting something none of us are expecting. It seems every time a new presentation or direct comes along everyone forgets how we've been bamboozled in the past.

Maybe. I'd argue that the concert may be preferred because it's specifically for Fire Emblem fans and, thinking big picture wise, Marth and Roy were the ones that broke the barrier that lead FE to international acclaim. In a weird way, FE joining Smash Bros is what ultimately saved the series. As I said earlier, he's coming in a month's time either way.

Because Roy's popularity is mostly rooted in Japan.
Because Roy's popularity is almost exclusively of Veterans to Smash who would be looking anywhere.
Because Fire Emblem fans would already be looking at the content in the concert.
Because the trailer for him would be posted up on Nintendo's youtube channel, on the Smash site, and be tweeted out/posted on social media after just like &
Because &happened in the way they did being revealed at non-major events in their own right.
Because Masahiro Sakurai is a crazy man.

Is it GUARANTEED? No. Possible & Plausible? I'd say so.

This is pretty much what I thought too. I feel like Ryu will be revealed at a later date at a larger event, since he's a far bigger deal.

For those of you who love patterns and need something to speculate over;

E3 2013: Two Nintendo fighters revealed first followed by Megaman, a third party.
E3 2014: Two Nintendo fighters revealed first followed by Pac-Man, a third party.
E3 2015: ???
