Hack the demos and see if there are any character portraits left in the code.

They'll be intentionally placed there just to mess with us, but it'll give us something to talk about until the next reveal.

Edit: I'm a decent judge for the 18+ & 20+ newcomer factor, but I do have my bias factor. GL0TUS's roster got an extra for the Sceptile. Spoiler below is how I rate.

My secret to how I rate rosters posted:
Any roster with at least 18 newcomers automatically gets a out of 10.
Any roster with 20+ newcomers automatically gets a out of 10.
For the remaining 2 's, it requires 2 Bias points to make it 10 / 10 HYESZ!:
Sceptile within any roster list is automatically gifted a out of 10,
I won't reveal the final character that completes my 10 out of 10 perfect score. But he'd be the 10th & final

Well, I've decided to go ahead and make an incredibly optimistic roster that isn't likely to happen but is still technically feasible. So, here it is, a 57 (55 if you don't count the separate Mii Fighters) character roster.

Explanations

Paper Mario: My ideal choice for a sixth Mario character, if we were to get one (and no, I don't care that he's basically Mario). He has a lot of unique potential and could offer a lot as a representative of his own mini-series within the Mario universe. With a Paper Mario stage present on the 3DS, he may not be out of the question.

King K. Rool + Dixie Kong: I really only expect one Donkey Kong newcomer, but since this roster is optimistic, I decided to include both. I don't think these two require explanation.

Tetra: Seems like no one remembers Tetra nowadays... At this point, I think she's the most ideal choice for a sixth Zelda character, as odd as that may sound (and again, I don't care that she's technically another Zelda: she's nothing like the two forms of Zelda we already have). Basically, she's important (essentially being Toon Zelda), she's even more recent than someone like Ghirahim due to Wind Waker HD, and she has unique potential. She's also another character from the "toon" games, meaning Toon Link wouldn't be the only "toon" character on the roster. Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but I think Tetra would be a pretty good addition to Smash.

Ridley: Self explanatory.

Mewtwo: Pretty much the most popular character request, has every reason to be in Smash, slots don't matter, etc.

Shulk: Good character from a great game. He seems pretty likely.

Rhythm Heaven Character: The Rhythm Heaven girl is just a placeholder for any Rhythm Heaven character. I think some sort of character from that series is fairly likely due to the Sneaky Spirit in Smash Run, but who it may actually be is up in the air. Could be Chorus Men, could be Marshall, could be Karate Joe... I don't know who it will be, but I think we will get someone.

I doubt I can hack anything. If there are girls holding the 3DS systems like the 3DS reveal at E3, then I could maybe keep one distracted while I palm the card or something... unless it's preinstalled, then I'm screwed.

I hope I can get some glimpses of things. Hoping for a gamescom announcement? maybe?
I will play the game and get a feel for the changes anyway...

At the risk of sounding whiny, here's my unpopular opinion: though I like several of the newcomers and only really dislike one, there's none that I love yet. I was hoping to add at least one new character to my top five, but thingaren't looking good for anyone I wanted. All of my Brawl favorites are back so I can't complain too much, but I'm not feeling really hopeful about the newcomers.

I can largely understand although I do have one (Rosalina) so far who I have a lot of hype for. Still; I have found that between the Newcomers and the revamped veterans there are a lot more characters I'm interested in playing as this time round. For comparison:

I'm too lazy to remake my usual roster considering that the game is right there and we'll know the actual roster.

So I just rearranged Neorice's awesome sprites in the form of a makeshift roster, with blank spots in place of unconfirmed veterans and newcomers. The sharp eyed people should be able to figure out what's what based on placement and colour choices.

I think I see what you're saying. With the changes they've made to returning fighters, they might end up feeling like whole new characters! Pit and Bowser especially stick out in my mind, I'm excited to see how they handle with the revamps.

Actually, Snake is the biased character. Dixie I think is going to be a product of making semi-clones and would add a DK character. I do think Dark Pit is in, but I think people are making too big a deal about him. He's not this groundbreaking character that everybody is going to be hyped to play as. I don't expect that in the slightest.

I couldn't care less about Ridley or K.Rool, however no Vaati is a sin, and you know it.

Well, at least you still have Snake, and you have Dark Pit, which I approve of, although I don't find Marshal very likely.

Get rid of Dixie, Lucas and Dark Pit and you basically got my wanted roster. Key word being wanted.

If Shulk and by some miracle Snake are in the game then that is the perfect roster to me. Ridley and K Rool fans can come at me too.

Edit: Mewtwo was considered 'newcomer' because of being a Melee cut, & not making it into Brawl. He's special in that regard.

Consider yourself "come at"ed!

But seriously, it's a solid roster. A couple "I'd rather character X over character Y, but Y is still pretty cool" scenarios, but nothing else.

Hm. I really don't see the appeal of Dixie though. A floatier, more aerial-based semi-clone of Diddy doesn't seem very appealing at all to me. There'd probably be some hair attacks, and maybe different properties to the specials, like the Bubblegum Popgun replacing the Peanut Popgun, and the Rocketbarrels being recolored to pink. I mean that's just my ideas. I'd take K. Rool over her. But I think K. Rool and Dixie kinda have an equal chance at getting in, albeit both lower than many predicted characters here.

Excuse me if I'm late but has anyone noticed the Pokemon in the back of this pic?

It appears to be the Pokemon League stage and an assortment of Dragon type Pokemon appear in the background. I'm assuming this stage switches between different lairs of the Elite Four. I would presume that Pokemon of the respective types (Dragon, Steel, Water, and Fire) will also appear. I might be going out on a limb here but could their be a stage boss for the final stage where you would normally face the champion? Diantha's Mega-Gardevoir would be my assumption, but what does everyone else think?
