tibor only plays games where he wins by holding R.

I'm hoping Catherine gets picked up for BAM/LanSmash/Whatever Sydney Has. I'd travel for Brawl + Catherine tournament combo most definitely!!!!!!

Me and a couple of guys are working on developing tournaments here too. Hopefully we can build up a decent scene ^^

Did you watch NorCal Install last Sunday!? Amazing finals series!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes, but we still need to develop a scene over here yet. We've only got 2 dedicated players, 2 undedicated ones and about 5 people who just watch because they still think it's porn T_T

Agreed, but it's so easy to punish if they're climbing up under you. It's just that Chun was playing amazingly bad in those GF sets for some reason. I mean, he gave up two guaranteed victories. I was so confused!

That being said, give Miranda a lead and she destroys - so quick at building. She just has no comeback strats other than item farming sadly.

obviously chun was thinking too hard about how he was going to dispose of the body if she did end up beating him that he was distracted from the task of winning. or maybe he hadn't eaten a baby recently enough and was getting cravings which would also distract him.

EDIT: so here's the ruleset that i plan to use for catherine tournaments. opinions?

General Rules
• Semis and Finals of both winners and losers bracket (including grand) are best of 5, all other sets are best of 3.
• In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by rock paper scissors
• No player may counterpick the stage they last won on unless agreed upon by both players
• Any banned stage may be played as a counterpick as long as all participants agree
• Pausing mid-match results in a forfeit
• Unless otherwise stated on the day, double elimination brackets are used

Set Format (in order of procedure)
1. The first stage is chosen by stage striking; first striker is determined by rock paper scissors; striking then follows the format of 1-2-1-2-1 and the last stage left unstruck is the first stage to be played on
2. The loser of the previous match chooses the stage for the next match
3. repeat step 2 for all proceeding matches

Legal Stages
Underground Cemetary
Quadrangle
Cathedral
Torture Chamber
Clock Tower
Spiral Corridor

Banned Stages
Prison of Despair
Inquisition
Empireo

Looks good bro. That's pretty much what we'll be doing over here as well.

Ban stage for counter picking or not? Only thing of interest I see. Smash obviously has bans, and NorCal uses bans, whats your reasoning behind not Dif?

my reasoning is that we only have 6 stages and nobody knows any of the stages well yet. there aren't any character advantages so the only ways i can see for you to choose a stage to ban are either 1) you know your opponent well enough to know that they have a favourite stage and what it is, or 2) you somehow figured out what your opponent is good at in the 2 minutes you played them and can make an accurate guess on what stage they'd be likely to pick.

i don't see either of those as legit reasoning for having stage bans. norcal has stage bans so that players can't just get good at one stage and always counterpick there, but stage bans only work in that situation when you know your opponent's stage habits really well. if you don't then you've got a 1/6 chance of picking the stage that they want and that's not really enough imo to justify having bans and with stage striking and your counterpick they're forced to play on at least 1 other stage (usually 2) each set. also if you do read your opponent well in game one, there aren't really any player attributes that are strong on only one stage.

You also ban stages if your crap on them, and want to eliminate all chance of being taken there. But hey, your reasoning is legit enough for me

we don't want players to be banning stages because they're bad on them. we want players to be practicing all stages so they aren't bad on any particular stage. thanks for bringing that up though, i forgot to talk about that.

DacidBro "co-creator NorCal Catherine Hype said:
Prison is banned because it's all reaction and no Catherine, Empireo is banned for far too much unpushability (Forcing a reliance on items and XFC in particular) and Inquisition is banned for lack of depth and general randomness in victor as well as unpushability
I was originally questioning banning Prison, but after an hour of playing on it with a mate it became apparent why it's banned :(

Prison = cracked blocks
Empireo = dark block borders (climbing will only help your opponent)
Inquisition = you start at the top, and not isolated, so you just end up pillow fighting

empireo is banned because it has random blocks, also the lame borders like mtg said. inquisition is banned because it has an unmovable area about 3 layers up and whoever gets there first wins, and even if they don't win it's basically playing "fight for unmovable block area" rather than playing catherine. prison of despair is banned because it's full of cracked blocks which makes the winner much more random and much less skill based.

first runthrough i went katherine because after a few hours in i found that my bar was mostly katherine anyway so i was like "might as well max that gauge". however, catherine is infinitely cooler.
