NC is not a group of smashers. It is a community. Just because Tri-State cares more about the money then the people does not mean that we do.

we're a family, like snap said

there no real fighting or arguements, its just simple sibling rivalry

that holds us back from gettin bettter @ the game like we could

but whats important in the end isnt how good at the game we are

Well honestly NC is more like a family.

I go to tournaments to get better, but another motivation for tournaments for me is seeing my wonderful friends.

But I agree that more people should come to west. and people have for my fest in the past.
this is what i dont like, family is good an all, but the overall reason for going to tourneys is to get better and win. That's why i distance myself during the tourney cause i feel bad if i go up to someone like stock, and make jokes and have a good time, then in tourney, i time him out. I feel like a ****. Family time is for AFTER the tourney, and i feel NC should start going by that.

I'm not saying be a **** or completely cold shoulder someone, but admit it people, alot of the time we would win sets against some of the people we lose to, had we not known them or talk to them, prior. it messes with your head and takes you out of the Competitive mood. Mekos chills with people, but alot of times he stays in the back and deliberates to himself how he is going to win his next match. I think it helps him alot.

Plus if we all took the time to get are matches in and not have so much small talk, tourneys would end faster, allowing us to have more time after tourney to be a family.

ya i learned this a long time ago... I learned to embrace feeling like a **** at tournaments and now its excepted by everyone. I could be the best of friends with everyone at the tourney and i hope to be cause im a cool guy and i love to have fun, but when it comes to me putting money down to enter in a contest where u can win more everyone is my enemy out there and i wanna win the money. I can see u guys all the time and i dont wanna pay money just to hang out with u guys.... after the tournament is when we can really come together.

Just **** it and learn to embrace playing like a **** lol.. I wanna win

people complaining about their seeding never happens here. that sounds like a cockiness problem. bracket problems happen, people understand that. no one expects anything to be perfect. for large locals and above, that is reasonable, but if you can't enter your own local, then thats a time management problem. we do it for the community, not for the money. you don't NEED to make a profit, you can get by fine without it.

if you are that desperate to make a profit, buy food in bulk, and sell it at the tournament.

lol u guys. would anyone seriously get mad if you timed them out? except like bill. it's just a game, one that I enjoy being good at, but I'm not gonna stop talking to someone for beating me in it lol. when zero used to live here we had to play like every tourney for like 6 tourneys in a row lol, and I think at least half of those had a match go to time. and we love each other...a lot

Snap and Keith are both right

I would say that the NC Smash community is like family. We do argue on the boards at times, but in person we get along very well, like brothers and our two sisters haha

But Keith makes a good point, I think to get better we all need to put sentiment aside during tournament matches and put that assassin's mentality into gear.

lol okay. look we all care about the game or else we wouldn't have started going to tourneys, we wouldn't pay money to enter tourneys, we wouldn't talk about the game on the internet inbetween tourneys, and we wouldn't play friendlies at other peoples houses before and after tourneys.
what we care about more is the community, and the people we see there when we go to tourneys, and it's more like a (lame, mostly sober) party then a tournament because we don't really care about the game or winning as much as we care about each other (lol that sounds gay as **** but true).
and i dont think other states are like that, at least not up north anyway, the NJ and MD/VA tourneys I went to were completely devoid of any non-smash related activity, it was all smash brothers and watching people play smash brothers and talking about smash brothers and WINNING, which is their thing and they can do that if it makes them happy and all, I'm not gonna criticize, but I prefer NC's tournaments far more.

Well it's because we save it for before and after the tourneys like Keith said

Md/Va has some pretty tight knits but when it's time to play, well it pretty much speaks for itself.

I mean same with me and NinjaLink going to Seige we had soo many laughs the days before and after the tourney, but when it was time to actually play seriously we did just that. We even had to play in losers quarters granted he won close games about 170%ish last stock all games. There was no bad blood at all about it, we even laughed about it on the way back the next morning

To me it just seems like in tourneys here people play and are just like eh w/e, they honestly feel like I'm playing friendlies when I go to Nc tourneys

@ stingers, thats what craig is talking about. hes not saying it's bad

but like, because we are so "family" orientated it has hindered most of us from getting better. AS weird as that sounds it's true. I mean for the people who want to get better quick, they know what they have to do. But NC overall is lax with getting to the top.

That isnt to say we don't strive the hardest, but like i was talking to md/va and west coast people at MLgG they have either smashfest or tourneys every week. Marias was the first brawl tourney we had in months.

i mean...yeah I didn't mean to imply that other states dont socialize at all, lol if u just played ur matches and went home that'd be gay as ****. NC is just having fun throughout. which i like a lot more. and we get serious in our matches too. sometimes. (lol danny and I did falcon vs. ganon game 2 of our set...he won =[ where u at craig :chuckle:)

and um I think that u people that live close to other smashers have no excuses for not playing them often. like keith how often do u go out of your way to play smash outside of tourneys? that is how u improve, if you only play during tourneys its gonna be really hard for u. tourneys should be a time to get matches in with people you don't get to play often, I agree, and its not like we don't do that...lol

i was hoping that would change a lil bit when i get here and i wanna do whatever i can by helping you guys by hosting events. You guys have to want it tho and I am not saying not to be friendly with each other but to try to seriously improve and learn things. This game isnt very hard. It just takes some dedication to improving...

I know NC has potential to be a top region. So lets get it and start climbing.

I'm working real hard to get better.

That's why I've been traveling more.
yeah and its paid off bigtime. stock goes around and plays friendlies with people out of tourneys and goes OOS and hes started ******. blackchris has done the same in melee. keith if u want to start improving, u need to start playing more, thats how it works. I mean I play wifi all the ****in time and it's helped me A LOT in lieu of having an actual person to play again.

some of the problems with this is that a lot of people need to leave right after the tourney, mostly because the tourneys run so late and they don't wana fall asleep on the wheel and also because they can't stay the night anywhere and they need to get home that night. but i guess this leads us back to where you said the tourneys would end faster if people didn't goof off so much.

but it's not just goofing off, it's also because people want to play friendlies with a lot of people and they are hogging the (estimated) 5 setups that are at most tourneys. which means like 2-3 tourney matches being played at once. and therefore, making the tourney take a lot longer than it should. setups really is a big problem.

tl;dr so, really, if we had more setups, then people would have more time to be competitve AND goof-off.

this isn't really an arguement, just my 2 cents, really.

I dont have a car. If i had a car i probably would quit smash, cause then i could go hunt for a girl friend again, and spend wasteful hours with her.

Jk, but seriously i would be alot better if i had transportation

I understand, but why are people doing friendlies at a tournament? Not only is that hogging a setup but it distracts the people doing friendlies from there own matches. Set ups hurt yes, but alot can be done with 5 set ups and a T.O that gets on players quickly. And i think we need to start enforcing the DQ rule, cause people will not care about being late if we do not.

Apparently, if you go to Group Records in the Data section on Brawl, you can get a list of data available by what tag was used. The coolest thing on there shows the Most used/2nd most used/least used character. And since I bring this Wii to like every tournament ever, this has a lot of data on it. And there's a lot of names I don't recognize so I'm just listing the people I can tell who it is.

people do friendlies at a tourney because, like i said, people need to get going after the tourney ends, and they want to get matches in with certain people/practice for their next match.

keith you don't really think people shouldn't play friendlies at tourney do you
if someone needs to do a tourney match, you just kick ppl playing friendlies off. its very simple
