Ya, definitely Fsmash after Shield Break, if one is looking for a kill.
Not sure what's the best option if you happen to break their shield at around 0%, though.
Whatever will dish out the most damage. If SDI isn't really present in this game and DI in general isn't as big, then I wonder how effective the Fire Breath attack will prove to be. We already know that its range is pretty crazy now.

I'm kinda wondering about that also, mainly because while SDI itself is still in the game, it looks like the SDI multiplyers for most or all attacks were lowered or maybe the way SDI actually works was changed. This could just be an early build thing or maybe it's all part of the plan. I noticed that the drill item seem to have a generous enough for SDI when it was used on Bowser in one of his 1v1 videos but it still looked pretty hard to SDI out of. I'm sure players can still SDI out of firebreath as well but they likely won't be able to just swim through it into Bowser and punish him for landing it on them. This, along with the reduced cooldown will certainly make it more useful for damage racking than it's been.

Agreed. As much as it would be fun for us, not being able to SDI out of Fire Breath would be a bit of a tax on the opponent's expense..that would be a ton of damage each time it connected, which honestly won't be hard at all. I'm perfectly content with the buffs it has received thus far, the reduced cooldown especially. Currently thinking of its pressure well spaced on an opponent's shield.

Ha ha. Well aside from his jab, what are your thoughts on the new Bowser so far?
I think it's too early to talk too in-depth about how these changes affect Bowser in general. Early opinions tend to change extremely quick once the actual game comes out, especially in multiplayer games.

Bowser does seem better overall, but he was a character that was completely reliant on reads and punishes in Brawl, so it's hard not to be...

Fair enough. It's fun to speculate though.

On another note. Here's another Bowser match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gbPDyaDszs

And although Bowser isn't in this vid, it's relevant to what we were just discussing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KQYRSJJ3O0

Well it looks like SDI is only good enough now for avoiding full damage or K.Os because that Dsmash looked REALLY hard to SDI out of and by the time he was out of it pikachu was already finished smashing, it seems like the hitstun on your character lingers when you are out of the move as well as SDI just being generally harder to do, he had to start premptively doing it just to be able to get out properly, which is generally how SDI works anyway but now it seems less likely that you can just get punishes for it off of something hitting you.

About that Bowser video, I appreciate it, I already see a few things that i'm going to look into a bit more closely; I may be updating the O.P in the near future.

It would be hilarious if Dsmash ended up being our ideal shield break punish due to SDI being less of an issue.

Because it's not like fully charged Fsmash does like 50 anymore... :(

From the demo Bowser's Firebreath pushes you away, similar to FLUDD but in very small segments. Firebreath also still deteriorates with time. Since people won't be pressing B at point blank range I don't think Firebreath won't be doing anymore than 10-13 damage per use unless you use it to edgeguard.

For some reason, not sure why, I feel like Bowser's max damage option is gonna be some jump-in string off of Nair. Probably gonna be something straight forward though like an air fortress if that retains it's high damage output, it did up to 35% in brawl, which isn't so shabby. However if Dsmash gets a damage boost then I could see that working, If I remember correctly the full charge only adds about 5% or something in Brawl.

That's a big drop from Brawl's 50% (somewhere around there) F-Smash to our biggest push for damage being around 30-35%. Brawl's F-Smash just felt so wonderful to land when getting all hits. I like dropkicking as much as the next guy, but I will miss that damage output. Here's to hoping that D-Smash has the potential of Peach's D-Smash in Melee :troll:

Or the ability for Bowser to pluck koopa kids from the ground with Ludwig being similar to a stitch face :)

Actually, Point Blank Fire Breath can be pretty effective as a mix up, bro. Noone expects it. Sort of like Samus' PBCS.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, maybe Utilt > filler*, depending on Utilt's IASAs.

I considered the mix up option but that's what it's limited to. A mix up. You should expect it maybe once or twice an entire set. Keep doing it and even the scrubbiest of options, roll behind FSmash, will be effective.

And even then it doesn't lead into anything.

Don't worry though, I'll try every approach once :)

At around :14 seconds in the new video, Bowser's F-Air did 13% followed by another one doing 10%. I think I recall the sweetspot of the move doing 16%, otherwise it was 13%. Damage nerf? Or?

In Brawl, the sweetspot does about 13% so no big change there.

@ Z1GMA Z1GMA If it turns out that we get to spam utilt on all the characters that spamed it on us then get ready to dish out that payback! However, even if that's not the case, utilt is still a lot more useful now, since it's no longer blind in front of him.

Oh! Ok, that version of Bowser is pretty cool.
With his tweaks, it's definitely my favorite version so far. All that armor is so great. Smash Wii U/3DS Bowser is like brand new so I'll more than likely be having more fun with that one.

I'm legitimately excited to try out this new Bowser.

It's like Namco finally took Bowser and turned him into the force of nature he was always MEANT to be but Sakurai just never gave a crap...

He'll definitely be getting more respect that's for sure. Just waiting to see how he fares against the entire roster when all the other characters come in.

Yeah the Bowser hype is real, I'm just ready to hit the smash 4 lab. I really want them to announce recordable dummies and hitbox display toggle for training mode.

Ah, that'll be the day...I guess the next big thing we have to wait for is the 3DS tourney at San Diego Comic Con on the 25th so we can get some more gameplay action

I'd hazard a guess that either A) they haven't updated GB yet or B) he has a new FS coming and that's effectively only a placeholder for now.
Or C) Sakurai must really love that Final Smash(how many other people do? Or D) Sakurai is that lazy( you do this much for Bowser and you still keep this?)

I kinda think that Bowser's old moveset works on Giga Bowser, He'd look terribly goofy throwing out dropkicks and the new N-air animation. However, they might redesign either the model to make it more suitable for the new moveset or they may tweak the animations to give them more flare. However, I most likely will not be using final smashes outside of maybe getting a look at what they do or in some silly matches if I happen to visit the for fun mode to goof around.

@ S_B S_B Unfortunately while it does look like a fortress to Fsmash, it's actually just Bowser pivoting during his new Fsmash charge animation. It looks like a fortress because of how he hunkers down in the animation and the fact that the pivot makes it look like he's spinning like in a fortress.

Ahh, okay.

That's probably for the best because that would be INSANE otherwise...

I mean, I want Bowser to be buffed, but I don't want him to be a FOTM character that everyone flocks to, forcing me into the role of the "Bowser Hipster". :p

I agree completely with this statement, I also feel the same way for every other character, I would prefer if every character were good and seen as "viable" so we could see a much larger roster at tournaments. Even if that were the case, there'd probably still be characters that were just inherently better than others and that's totally fine, as long as tourneys consist of just the same top 3-5 top tiers with an occasional loyalist/specialist in something else. Also, if every character is on a more level playing field then we could see far more creative plays over textbook ones.

I'm really curious to try nair>Klaw. I have a feeling there's a lot of potential to follow up after nair (the fact that you can upsmash on platforms after nair still blows my mind). I'll def try it at SDCC. Hopefully it won't be an insane amount of waiting like at Best Buy.

I'm anxious to play Bowser again. I wonder what strategies I'd develop. He looks like a solid character overall this time around.

Giga Bowser with old Bowsers moveset fits better, imo. Plus, the moves have their own streak lines and stuff so it might already be final.

Lol I'm trying to imagine Giga Bowser dropkicking and using N-Air. Would be insane.

There's going to be PLENTY of new footage for Bowser since so many players are using him at SDCC. We have plenty of Bowser info already, so I wonder what else we could find. This is the same build from E3 by the way.

This confuses me. I saw his U-smash SA not work a number of times at SDCC but I swore it was working at E3.

What's the deal there?
Keep in mind that the armor on Up smash is on the charge, not the attack itself, so if you saw someone beat the attack while it was active then that's why. I'm thinking that upsmash is meant to be used kinda like a focus attack from SSF4. Charge it up to absorb a strong hit, then unleash it during lag. As for there being SA on the Fsmash, I don't have footage to back this up just yet but I did look over the Archive in the nintendo channel and I saw that the Dair vs Fsmash exchange happened two times, one of these times the fsmash lost, so I'm guessing that kinda disproves the armor since both hits were around the same part of the animation. What likely happened is that the second time, the dair wasn't positioned as favorably or was possibly stale, so it challenged hitboxes that were too strong and was canceled out. Once this gets posted to youtube I'll highlight both parts of the match for your convinence.

Right now, I'm most interested in two instances of Grab release that I'm fishing around for now, I'm trying to see if Bowser has advantage still, it looks like he does but just making sure. I might wait till tomorrow, all the matches may be uploaded by then, and I am a little tired at the moment; If I find anything then I'll certainly let you know.

Edit: Found it, so far it's looking confirmed, I'll post some footage when it's on youtube.
