Right after the first mass kill, a report showed that this happens every year with last year having 5 or so bird kills with 1000+ deaths. Reason why it's so big now? Slow news week. Last year when this was happening we had BP Spill. It's not that grave, people.

Right, but has this happened worldwide at the same time before?

Probably not to these levels, but it's not uncommon for mass animal fatalities.
