Melee Tournament at UC Berkeley

Since there are apparently no biweeklies anymore Berkeley has decided to invite as many people as possible to its next tournament to give them a chance to play each other. Also, the ratings look pretty weird (Pink Shinobi #1???? I could beat that scrub, almost beat him in my sleep last time :p) so let's see if we can shake things up. We may or may not do doubles (we'll see about time constraints. See rules for singles at bottom. Singles will be a $5 entry fee. $3 if you bring a cube with melee. We should be set on TVs tho.

TIME: Registration starts at 11am. Tournament will start without yo *** at noon.
LOCATION: UC BERKELEY
DWINELLE HALL
Take the BART to the downtown Berkeley station. Should be the corner of Shattuck and Allston Way. Walk south down Shattuck to Bancroft and turn left, heading east. You will see a gym, churches and crap and later the university. Walk on campus, go past fountain, under bigass Sather Gate and then Dwinelle is on the left. Any questions, call my number at 559-707-3225.

RULES

Super Smash Brothers: Melee (singles)

General Rules
• Items are set to off
• The stock is set to 4
• The time limit is set to 8 minutes per match (cuz 8 is a lucky #)
• All sets are best of 3 matches (finals and grand finals would be 3 of 5)
• In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors
• No player may choose the stage they last won on (Dave's stupid rule)
• Time up will decided by lives, then percentage. In the event of a percentage tie, one stock match will be played.
• Wobbling is allowed except when used to excessively stall a match
• The Ice Climber Freeze Glitch is banned
• Jigglypuff's rising pound is ALLOWED FOR RECOVERY BUT USING IT TO STALL A MATCH RESULTS IN A LOST STOCK
• Peach's bomber stall beneath levels where she is unreachable is banned (example: FoD)

Set Format (in order of procedure)
1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match *
2. Each player may announce one stage to be banned for the entirety of the set
3. The first stage will be played at random from the Random Stage List **
4. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Random Stage List or the Counter Stage List
5. The winner of the previous match chooses their character
6. The loser of the previous match chooses their character
7. Repeat steps 4-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for this match (both players whisper their character to a referee)
**Opponents may instead agree upon a random stage

Random Stage List
Dream Land: Fountain of Dreams
Kanto: Pokemon Stadium
Past Stages: Dream Land
Special Stages: Final Destination
Special Stages: Battlefield
Yoshi's Island: Yoshi's Story

Counter Stage List
Mushroom Kingdom: Rainbow Cruise
Past Stages: Kongo Jungle
Dream Land: Green Greens
DK Island: Jungle Japes
F-Zero Grand Prix: Mute City
Kanto Skies: Poke Floats
Lylat System: Corneria
Planet Zebes: Brinstar

BYOC
Bring your own controller. (duh)

<3 PLEASE BRING A GAMECUBE/WII WITH MELEE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! IT LOOKS LIKE WE'LL HAVE TVS BUT THE SETUPS MIGHT BE A LITTLE LACKING. <3

I'll be there.

Chris noone knows about that crap lol. I've pretty much kept it a secret since the more good people go to a scrub FFA tournament the more random it becomes lol.

Plus the tournament you're thinking of is a fundraiser with terrible prizes.

Wow we got good people coming. Good ****. Let's get DBR and SFSU to come and it'll be NCB status. Good practice for Mango Juice coming up. BTW Ian I just copy pasta'd the rules from the smash wiki basically and didn't pay attention to the wording. All I meant was typical stuff, like stalling is not allowed. Of course you can use it to recover. But I'm trying to encourage the least bytchy play while keeping it competitive. Hence, wobbling is ok, but don't use it to stall at 2 stocks each and run down time lol.

Also, Paul is a bytch and is afraid to lose to a well rested Mr. Brandandorf. He almost lost a MM to me and I was falling asleep between matches!

Not johning, just kidding, hoping my trash talk will encourage NorCal's best to come make my tournament better :)

PS No one is going to that scrubby Berkeley High School tournament. It will have Brawl at it. Ewwwww

BTW Thank you Ian for the superior map skills. I figured that would be harder to explain though lol.

A most clever rebuttal to my mind game shenanigans, Pink Shinobi. But I will be in San Diego that weekend for a business trip that weekend, so no Mango Juice for me.

Yes, PockyD, Berkeley has free wireless almost anywhere on campus called AirBears (people surf porn and flashgames during lecture all the time) so we can hook you up with teh internets.

OMG Boback please come and bring German. Make Bobby go too!

Bring cubes. Seriously. They're needed.

Also, you need to be a Cal student to use the on-campus wireless. Or find a Cal student willing to enter his ID# and password on your computer.

Also, there is extremely good chance that there will be no recording unless someone wants to bring recording equipment.

Shroomed shouldnt be allowed to record, he hasnt even put up the vids from CGC which was Feb 28th. Also if San Pablo is late they should actually get DQ'ed this time. Much <3 and I'm not going lol.
