Nintendo doesn't need Rare's involvement for any of those Nintendo Era games besides Diddy Kong Racing so I can't see them being included. They'd probably want games that they need Rare's cooperation for. Maybe they'd include more GB and GBA games instead, like the THQ GBA four, Conker's Pocket Tales, etc.
Were talking about a Rare Replay (Switch Edition), Not individual releases that obviously wouldn't require Microsoft at all.

I only bring them up as replacements for the Xbox titles on Rare Replay if it were to release on Switch, since Xbox titles would be a lot more difficult to emulate than SNES and N64 titles, Star Fox Adventures maybe the toughest to emulate from Nintendo's/Rareware lineup seeing how it's from the Gamecube era.

Obviously Nintendo can rerelease anything Donkey Kong related that Rare worked on in the past since they own the rights to DK such as DKC on the Wii and DK 64 on the Wii U ,But a Rare Replay (Switch Edition) would require involvement with Microsoft to get it on Switch and for Nintendo to include their Donkey Kong Rareware era games, That is the topic we are discussing, Not individual rereleases.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Conker's Bad Fur Day on the Replay as well? I feel like Nintendo might still want that one as another game to sell the product. Nintendo's done a really good job maintaining their family friendly image while also having third party support for more mature games. I could imagine they could do a header in a direct about the replay coming "...Including classics like Bajo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, yada yada, yackity Schmackity, and Conker's Bad Fur Day", without putting too much focus on it.
Yes it is, But anything that predates Xbox is assumed to be fair game (NES - N64) for a Switch port which would mean Conker and Banjo-Kazooie, Rare Replay obviously and currently doesn't have anything Donkey Kong and Star Fox Adventures in it for obvious reasons which is why I brought up anything Nintendo/Rareware games such as DK and SFA as replacements for Xbox era games and to be bundled with everything else that predates Microsoft Xbox.

Did 4J Studios recode the N64 games for Rare Replay? I'm not sure how that worked, really, I assume they're not straight emulation.

I'll wait until the Fall Direct to give up on Rare/Banjo games on Switch.

:( I am sad now.
Hey man, it's great that you have some creative ideas and all, but it's probably not best to treat this thread like your own personal blog. There are likely other threads where you could share your ideas and they would get more attention. Perhaps ask a mod where the best place is. That way the thread can be more about your creative stuff where it's appropriate. These threads are meant to be more open-ended discussions where topics bounce around and the conversation ebbs and flows. That's my input anyway, mods can probably tell you better than I could.

Galaxy brain: every game in Rare's history is included, including the first-party-centric Nintendo games. But not the licensed games, because screw LJN.

Yeah, it's taken decades for them to be accustomed to the idea of having a general family audience rather than kids first. This would do a lot towards putting a definitive end to the "Nintendo still pretends that BFD doesn't exist!" fan mindset.

Well, assuming Rare cares enough to capitalize on what Cuphead set forward in regards to Switch presence.

Thank you. :) You are very nice.

Can I at least explain the boss fight I mentioned? It is really great, as it helps fans want to destroy the mecha versions of Banjo & Kazooie because the robot duplicates start enraging the duo and the players by fighting them in a room filled with Nuts & Bolts props, including a huge Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts box cover! Not trying to make anyone hate Banjo's franchise, but, just thought you all would love to destroy Nuts & Bolts in a fan game.

Yeah, I'm still pretty doubtful of a Rare Replay, despite Sabi clearly demonstrating that they do get insider information. Their confidence in it, however, does make me a little optimistic. Confusing things even more is Indie Gamer Chick's claim that Nintendo couldn't do a N64 classic without Rare--I'm still uncertain if an N64 classic will come out. But if it does, does that mean we get both a Rare Replay and Rare games on an N64 classic, AND Banjo & Kazooie in Smash?

All sounds too good to be true. But I want to believe.

I think they'd still stick with the 30 games (though, with the Nintendo tax, I think it'll be close to $40-$50). My guess, keeping most the same because I'm less knowledgeable of Rare's library pre-N64, and assuming Nintendo lets them put Donkey Kong in along the likes of M-rated titles like Perfect Dark/Conker (a big if), I can think of 29:

1. Jetpac
2. Lunar Jetman
3. Atic Atac
4. Sabre Wulf
5. Underwurlde
6. Knight Lore
7. Gunfright
8. Slalom
9. R.C. Pro-Am
10. Cobra Triangle
11. Snake Rattle 'n' Roll
12. Solar Jetman
13. Digger T. Rock
14. Battletoads
15. R.C. Pro-Am II
16. Battletoads Arcade
17. Donkey Kong Country
18. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest
19. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
20. Killer Instinct Gold
21. Blast Corps
22. Diddy Kong Racing
23. Banjo-Kazooie
24. Donkey Kong 64
25. Jet Force Gemini
26. Perfect Dark
27. Banjo-Tooie
28. Conker's Bad Fur Day
29. Star Fox Adventures

The question is--what would they do for the last game? A Rare game that was left off of Rare Replay? A Gameboy/Color/Advance game? Nuts & Bolts (which they'd have to re-make to play on the Switch)? Dare I say, they somehow get the rights to Goldeneye 007? If Rare Replay will be coming to Switch, which is still a big if, it leaves a lot of questions.

There are all sorts of legal issues tying it up. Activision currently has the license for making Bond games (unless they lost it after the disastrous 007 Legends), and there's also the film companies to consider, and possibly the actors whose likenesses were used.

Rare Replay would be nice but I'd be more than thrilled with just ports of Kazooie and Tooie. I've been wanting to play those on a handheld console for years.

So Nintendo got Banjo & Kazooie in Smash to get Rare games on an N64 classic, and got Crash in Smash to get Activision's approval of Goldeneye 007 on an N64 classic.

Got it. :chuckle:

People keep saying RARE Replay as it is now wouldn't work because porting the 360 games would be a hassle, but there are strong rumors about The Master Chief Collection coming to the Switch as well. If that would be possible too then I don't see why RARE Replay would be too hard either. Sure more work would have to be done considering there are 30 games in total, but a good portion of those games shouldn't be too hard to port over. RARE Replay deserves its audience, and I think most of those audiences are on the Switch. Regardless if we do get RARE Replay or not, Nintendo fans need to experience the Viva Pinata games, Kameo, and Nuts N Bolts (as controversial as the game is, I still say it's worth a playthrough).

I think the issue is there is 7 games in the Xbox era that would have to be ported to make it work, and they're big 3D games, as opposed to their NES and SNES games. And Rare, in general, doesn't like going back to old games and working on them unless it's incremental improvements, like adding 4K. I've heard when porting games, it's a lot more difficult than it seems, almost like having to rewrite everything. Add to that the possibility of having the 6 console DKU games included, it makes sense to replace the Xbox era games with those.

To me, the differences between Rare Replay and MCC is that Microsoft cares more about the latter than Rare cares about returning to the former. It's not that it's impossible or even improbable, I would just consider it fairly unlikely.

Banjo Kazooie being in Smash opens up a lot of doors with not just the IP, but RARE as a whole as evident by Banjo Kazooie's tagline in the reveal trailer: "..are Raring to Go!" I like to think MS and Nintendo see this a big opportunity, and if MS says port RARE Replay over to Switch, RARE or some other studio wouldn't hesitate to oblige regardless of how RARE feels about it.

So I was originally of the mindset of being fortunate enough to have Banjo & Kazooie make it into Smash. And if they were to make it into Smash, I would hope that eventually ports of their original adventures in Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie would make it to the Nintendo Switch. That was before they actually went and done did it and put the beloved backpacking bear and bird buddies in the damn game and blinded me with the gorgeous HD renders of their N64 designs in the modern era along with Bottles, Mumbo Jumbo, & Gruntilda and the Spiral Mountain level. Now I want straight up HD remasters of Banjo-Kazooie & Banjo-Tooie on the Nintendo Switch and will accept nothing less! If Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and ******* Bubsy can get stuff like that, Banjo & Kazooie should be no exception. I really hope that eventually comes to pass. It would easily make the Nintendo Switch my new favorite console of all time. Even more so if they actually continue the trend of bringing more ports, remasters, and collections to the Switch. I would go freaking nuts having Banjo-Kazooie & Tooie remasters and a freaking Snowboard Kids 2 remaster on the Switch!

I'd really love remasters in the vein of Crash N Sane Trilogy--I'd say I'd prefer that over bring over the N64 ports. It's just something that "feels right", and it feels like there's a small window to release it for it to be its full potential. I'd love it if they kept the gameplay the same, updated the graphics, and perhaps more appropriately incorporate Stop N Swop so your prize isn't a ****ing gamer pic.

In an ideal world, they would do that while working on a Banjo-Threeie, using the same style graphics of the remaster to make the third game, so there's consistent graphics between all three games, and working on the remasters would help reorient them on how to make a proper Banjo-Kazooie game.

And I can't tell you how many times when watching reactions, someone mentioned wanting remasters for the Switch. Even the few meh reactions from non-fans, I was surprised they mentioned, "So, when's Banjo-Kazooie comin' to Switch?" There is probably a deep demand for it, more so than Microsoft/Rare think. It's all a matter of if they're willing to take that risk.

I don't really want remasters/remakes. The games are perfectly playable still and look great in HD. I'd be worried about them being messed with.

Meanwhile, in Aussie land, Krome Studios started a Kickstarter for a Ty the Tasmanian Tiger remaster.

Yeah, kind of a warning flag when you need KS just to push out a remaster for your first series game...

I'd be more worried with a subpar sequel than a remaster. A remaster you already have the basis to work with. It's just updating the graphics and animation, I don't see what the problem would be. Especially since there isn't any voice acting or anything. I'd love to see fluid cartoony HD animation on the characters with today's graphics. If Crash Bandicoot and Spyro can have them, and on the Switch no less, and be just as good as the originals but with way updated graphics and more fluid animations, it should be no problem for Banjo-Kazooie.

I actually loved the first Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, so I'd be so happy to have a remake of that too! Just sucks they have to resort to that.

Spyro has technical hiccups for one. And the blocky N64 graphics are part of the charm of the Banjo games.

We are so close to Banjo returning home! Nothing will stop it! God will make sure of it.

Who else thinks the toxic competitive players will get upset if they put Banjo in garbage tier, yet, our duo wins a tournament and they start to complain? Just a thought.

Was just estimating the time between Joker and Hero's release (which was that of 105 days, equating to three months and a half approximately) so, following that very same time gap, we could expect Banjo & Kazooie coming no later than November 12. Although since they were revealed within the same E3 Direct (alluding to the duo being just about as done as Hero by that time), they could actually come much sooner. For now though, the latest date would be November 12. Again, that date would come real close to Fighter #4's expected release window.

Just my opinion here. :ultbanjokazooie:

I can see that. I just don't want to see Banjo & Kazooie be left behind when they were so big on the N64 and especially after finally getting some respect and attention after years of literally nothing. To have them just be on Smash, while a dream come true, but not make a big comeback with a port or remaster would be disappointing to me. Especially since so many people, including myself, clearly wanted to see them return to the gaming scene in some capacity. But if they just got a port, I'd be okay with that. It's just seeing them in HD in Smash got me wanting a remaster so bad now lol

I don't follow that scene too closely, but from what I've seen, any time a character that is thought to be lower-tier places well or wins a tourney, the competitive crowd generally responds positively, given it shifts perspective regarding that character's viability, the person who managed to succeed put in effort to master an underdog, and it provides diversity to the typical results.

Look at what happened with Duck Hunt during EVO. And they're not even a fanbase favourite like Banjo is.

Well, in a historical moment where 3d platformers are so back in vogue that even Ty the ****ing tasmanian tiger is getting a remaster, you'd think there would be enough space and then some for a Kazooie/Tooie duology.
I like to think it's just a matter of time.

For a fun reminder I just went back 99 pages in the thread to the moment of the 3rd DLC Impact. I wish I was here instead of in bed asleep at the time. I remember how worked up people get around literally every Smash direct reading those old comments, and realizing now Banjo fans in reality had nothing to worry about

This guy had the perfect image all ready to go

It's quite a contrast to what happened back on page 135 when the November 1st direct took place. The Grinch Leak was fake, Incineroar appeared, spirits were talked about, a whole load of nothing happened until Piranha Plant broke that and then we had what looked like a promising adventure mode turned out to be a glorified Special orders mode. Those were some dark times and a lot of people lost hope.

Then you had the silliest of times to lose hope on page 593. You had people like MonkeyDLenny who was one the biggest sources of information on the thread losing all hope when nothing Banjo & Kazooie related happened at Microsoft's E3 conference. This was even when Shinobi602 posted about Banjo & Kazooie having a Smashing good time and Vergeben saying that he was 99% sure they were coming.

And then June 11th happened...

Yeah. Probably not this year, but maybe in a year or so, so who knows? In the meantime, Smash appearance is still the bee's knees.

Man I wish I could play Banjo-Kazooie again after so long since I last played it on the N64. I remember having to borrow the game from a friend of mine back then and I remember having enjoyed every minute of it. I never got to finish the game, unfortunately. Getting an Xbox 360 seems like my only option to relive it but those are now hard to come by around here.

And Krazy reacted as well as you might expect at the lack of BK anything at said Microsoft conference.

Beyond time and space
Well, in a historical moment where 3d platformers are so back in vogue that even Ty the ****ing tasmanian tiger is getting a remaster, you'd think there would be enough space and then some for a Kazooie/Tooie duology.
I like to think it's just a matter of time.
If anything, I think Sakurai and Nintendo's decision to put the bear and bird back in business GREATLY helped spark general interest in the possibility of a remaster.

Once Rare Replay Switch becomes a hit, they'll start working on a new BK game for Switch. Odyssey is the best Banjo Kazooie game ever made; while obv BK isnt as popular as Mario you cant say that ppl aren't interested in 3D platformers.
