It doesn't mean that Pokemon and Mario Maker won't appear at the E3 Direct - it probably means that Nintendo will be free to spend more time on other games as opposed to them.

Ya think? Seems kind of strange to me they’d make two game-specific Directs just a few weeks before E3 only to show even more of those games at E3 instead of showcasing games that are coming out that haven’t gotten a lot of notice like Animal Crossing or something

I do believe that Nintendos big Game for 2019 is something we don't know of yet. A Nintendo All Stars Racing maybe? A big 3d DK? Retros new IP? I just don't think that luigis mansion and Animal Crossing are really The big Titles that botw, odyssey and smash ultimate were before.

It seems more likely that they'll get the bulk of info out of the way before E3 for those games and then give them a smaller showcase at E3. I'm sure the final style in Mario Maker 2 will be announced at E3 for example.

If true, then that's one less hurdle for Banjo. Sora was probably the top most requested character and with Banjo topping the fan polls, that gives me more hope for him.

To be perfectly honest, if this deconfirmation is legit, than I'd rather there be no additional Square rep; not only do I not really care about any other rep other than Sora, but it's very possible the actual content would be as small as the Final Fantasy stuff we got with Cloud.

Not surprising, Pokemon always gets it's own dedicated direct before E3 when the next generation is around the corner and expected for a holiday release as they did the same thing for Sun & Moon 3 years ago.

I'm really pumped and excited as Pokemon Sword & Shield are my most anticipated games for this year.

This entire thing scares me for one simple reason: if true, then the only big "head-turner" franchise from Square for Smash would be Dragon Quest. This means the possibility of Erdrick being leakbait (due to appearing months in advance, despite SE's policy on leaks, as people have said before), has just been reduced.

This makes me really apprehensive in the case of a potential Microsoft rep... E3 can't arrive any sooner.

From how I understand it it's not so much that they're stingy it's that they gave the creators a lot of control way back when. It makes things more complicated since like 5 people (that aren't just suits) have to sign off for DQ for anything to happen with it but I think it's kinda cool, tbh.

I know this man he is legit, he is a great smash commentator, I met him and i discussed with him many time. Plus he really wanted sora in smash...

Also, someone came up with a neat final smash idea, washing machine transformation. I can picture it now--Banjo lights up, hits someone, Mumbo Jumbo pops out while Eekum Bokum plays, Banjo transforms into a washing machine within the cinematic and sucks in the character, them spinning around in side as loud washing machine sound effect plays, and spits them out to the edge.

Except that logic falls flat with all three examples listed:
1. K. Rool is Nintendo, not Rare so the original creator did not need to know since he doesn't own the character
2. Wayforward was silent about Smash because Shantae is a spirit
3. Ditto with Yacht Club and Shovel Knight

So yeah... Sora's out.

"Saying the character is not in the game = the character is in the game but it's a secret" is logic that I cannot get behind. Sometimes the word No is just the word No.

It's always possible that it's a lie to avoid breaking an NDA, but the simplest explanation is Sora's not in. Silence can mean multiple things, but a deconfirmation is the best we get in terms of finding out their potential in advance. It's actual evidence, whereas silence is not. Best thing would to not expect Sora at this point, and be even more surprised if Sora gets in.

I definitely preferred Sora over Erdrick, but that's my Western bias. Dragon Quest is super popular in Japan, and makes sense that Nintendo would like to push harder to make it more popular in the West.

And while Sora and Banjo weren't competing for spots (they both could get in, or neither, nothing prevents that), it just means with a Japanese-centric pick, we need a Western-centric pick to balance it out. Perhaps a character popular both in the West and Japan.

I've actually been a sora supporter since the DLC development got announced so hearing this really bites.

Hopefully Banjo and Crash won't meet the same fate.

So under an NDA it'd definitely be wise not to, say, make posts on Twitter asking fans if they want the property you're merchandising for to be in Smash Ultimate

But seriously "lack of evidence is not evidence". If a person or company is behaving in a way that indicates one thing or the polar opposite, it should just be discarded and moved on from.

I'm not surprised there's going to be another Mario Maker 2 Direct. Not only are they obviously teasing a new game style (fingers crossed for SMB2/USA!), what they've shown so far has been surprisingly conservative. Only a small handful of new enemies, excluding heavily requested ones like Chargin' Chucks, and zero new power-ups? Something is definitely up.

Re: the Sora deconfirmation, it's certainly a bummer, but I wasn't seriously expecting Sora in Smash to begin with. Remember that he's owned by Disney, not Squeenix, and I can't imagine Nintendo and Sakurai want to haggle with the Mouse. I do agree that Sora would be a more interesting pick than Erdrick, though.

I personally want the nuts and bolts design as a skin. I don't want them to completely ignore the game exists.

That design is butt-fugly, though. I personally think the best way to represent Nuts & Bolts is to give Banjo and Kazooie the wrench as a tether grab.

I really hope their tagline is "Banjo & Kazooie are Rarin' to go!"

I'd prefer something simpler and more sentimental. "Banjo and Kazooie come home!"
