The only way that Retro is ever working on a Banjo game is if Microsoft hands over the IP to Nintendo, and I would be legitimately shocked if that ever happened.

Otherwise, there is absolutely no way that Nintendo is going to let one of their subsidiary developers work on someone else's IP when they could be working on a Nintendo property like Donkey Kong instead and get 100% of the profits instead of sharing with Microsoft.
Yeah, it's about as likely as Nintendo making a Sonic or Mega Man game by themselves. Sounds neat on paper, but it's pretty obvious they'd just want to stick with their own IPs.

Here's the quick run down. This all started with a thread on 4chan that stated "If your post number ends in 7, your character gets in Smash" Soon later all the 7's went to Banjo fans where the Steve Trolls tried desperately to one up them, and failing spectacularly.

http://boards.4channel.org/v/thread/457562601

This thread was bog standard until another Banjo fan started the 7 meme again. Then, like before, all the Banjo fans get 7's where the Steves got none and were fuming about it. It has absolutely nothing to do with Banjo's chanses, but it was pretty damn satisfying watching the ugly Steves burn down again.

Edit: I just realized.....God made the earth in 7 days....Bros.....Broooooooos!

Oh............ Just 4chan being 4chan.

By the way, I don't know if anyone has seen this, but apparently, someone showed TheStrabDude three pics on his Erdirck tread, and well.........let's just say they're interesting. https://twitter.com/gran_x817/status/1114555777992339458

Just FYI: I don't believe these pics, and I think they are fake, but good fakes to me.

Rayman pretty much doesn't exist in Japan. Very few of his games were released there and they all sold like rancid trash.
Big yikes...

Well, the hope I had for the limbless wonder just toke a big hit. But not too big a hit. (we've had fighters that've flopped east-wise before, right?)

...Banjo, I'm counting on you to sell me on this fighter pass!

I think series like Metroid and Punch-Out!! get by easier because they're just ordinary Nintendo series. I imagine Sakurai has higher standards for third parties.

And even those series have probably sold more in Japan than Rayman, lol.

The original Metroid was actually a million seller in Japan, believe it or not. We don't have numbers for Metroid 2 or Super, but it decayed pretty rapidly by the GBA/GC time, and is pretty much dead now.

I went back to Yooka-Laylee after the 64-bit tonic was released, and they'd make great Smash characters as well. The game gets a lot of ****, but The Completionist gave a great overview why Yooka-Laylee is great. Not perfect, but hits most of the marks it set out to achieve, and was a great experience, not strictly nostalgia driven. Most of the problems are implementation issues, while its strengths are baked into fundamental design. If they hadn't had to make a company from scratch and use a relatively shoe-string budget for what the project needed, it could have exceeded the originals, and what they have is a great foundation if they ever have the chance to improve upon it.
My main problem with Yooka-Laylee is that half of the stuff is really frustrating racing mechanics that involve you to time buttons just right.

Hey, long shot but: Does anyone have a cap of that tweet where Sakurai mentioned how the next DLC reveal would go a little smoother with a full stage and character reveal? I've been mentioning it for awhile but now I can't even find the source anymore.

I don't think we even know what Sakurai's standards are, when one series barely having any games out is good enough for inclusion. :ultbayonetta:
Bayo is kind of a weird case because she's essentially an honorary Nintendo character now, with Nintendo funding and publishing her installments beyond the first game.

But Banjo & Kazooie are kinda honorary Nintendo characters, too...

They are. I recall when Greg Mayles talked about King K. Rool getting in, he said it would be cool to see Banjo & Kazooie because they were made to be Nintendo characters. If they were made to be Nintendo characters, they definitely deserve a spot like Bayonetta.

It's one of the great things about BK and YL, though--while it sometimes gets crap for being a "collect-a-thon", you only have to collect a certain amount to progress and you can pick and choose what objectives you want to complete. Outside of the mine cart sections, which were fun except for that ****ing casino one, and Nimble, I can't really think of any other races I did. I will say a large portion of the challenges, however, were either lackluster or overly frustrating, at least compared with the originals.

Since NDAs are brought up here a lot, I want to mention quite an interesting instance that went under many people's radar:
Back during the height of Smash 4 leaks and speculation Shulk's voice actor (Adam Howden) was fairly candid for someone who we now know had to be under NDA.

First, there's this tweet: https://twitter.com/A_HOWDZ/status/502879692836597760
He was swamped with people bugging him about Shulk in Smash, so this alone is fairly blunt I think.

Then there was this: https://twitter.com/Xenado_/status/503282499704066048
Adam favorited this post asking for a "super subtle hint" about Shulk in Smash. You can still see it in the list of likes. IMO that's pretty damn transparent.

However, this was not even a week before Shulk's reveal. But I still think it's something to keep in mind while we hang on every tidbit or rumor regarding the next four characters. I think of this a lot when I see people immediately assume a character is out of the race because someone who would have to be under NDA says something.

With all the Smash Bros. drama and tension, y'all should rest knowing your favorite character playable in Smash Bros. isn't rock bottom in popularity lists.

Blame Atlus for holding Nintendo down
I have my doubts that this is the case. Nintendo’s a much, much bigger company than Nintendo. If they wanted to announce another character or show off Joker gameplay, there’s pretty much nothing Atlus can do to stop them. It’s just simply Joker got revealed way earlier than he probably should have.

That and you know, I think Nintendo expects us to be satisfied with the base game and not lose our collective minds just because we don’t hear even more updates four months after release and after we’ve already received one DLC game.

I feel like people need to learn patience in the Smash community. I’m not specifically directing this at you, but this impatience sentiment in the community bothers me a lot.

The 2nd DLC reveal better be right after joker. This wait with Joker is killer enough as it is.
I'm pretty sure they will reveal the next one right away, they want to keep momentum in release + next dlc reveal in order to keep interest in selling the season pass otherwise people will prefer to just buy them individually if they are kept waiting for the next reveal.

December announces Joker (1st dlc) and releases finally now in April, April announces 2nd dlc to release in July maybe, June (e3) announces 3rd dlc for september or october, then at the usual last regular direct of the year which is in september they announce the 4th one that would release in december, then in december at TGA they announce the last one for february 2020. At least this is how i expect things will most likely go.

Polar Panda mentioned Rare Replay on the Switch a week or two ago, and she mentioned we’ll be looking forward to Nintendo in April I believe. People are speculating a direct will happen this month. Could they announce the Rare Replay port and thus possibly Banjo in Smash as well alongside Joker and the P5 port? Frankly, I’m getting restless and I really don’t want to wait until E3 for the next character. Banjo might be the 2nd or 3rd character if he’s in, nevertheless.

Here's my theory. The supposed Banjo reveal and Joker release was set to happen in March to coincide with the Loot-crate item. This was probably planned before the DLC finalization and DLC was revealed. Joker's reveal may have put a wrench in that plan, and Atlus' insistence to hold Joker's full reveal until they reveal news about P5S caused the schedule to be delayed. Im certain that Sakurai promised a more content filled reveal for the 2nd pack. Call it a hunch but I feel like development on Joker was finished and set for the March release, but held off due to Atlus. This might also explain how the Best Buy leak happened. Since the next reveal will feature more content, I suspect that Joker being finished in March freed up resources to work on Pack 2.

Poke holes in it if you wish, this is just how I see these bizarre events. The Loot Crate debacle just looks way to weird to be a coincidence. If PolarPanda feels quite confident about Rare Replay and says "You'll all really love what Nintendo has in store for next month." then it's possible this stuff will be dropping soon.

To be fair originally he had Isaac lower than K Rool. He did rerate Isaac later and increased his chances which made sense as it was after K Rool's reveal and the ballot looked like a major influence on who we'd get at the time and Isaac's popularity was up there with the two reptiles'. Little did we know all the ballot choices were already out of the way.
Okay, I just rewatched the first episode of Rate Their Chances where K. Rool and Isaac were first rated by Billy and you were right, K. Rool did receive a higher rating than Isaac. And as you said, Isaac only received a 60% after K. Rool got in.

I feel like if Erdrick doesn't make it in it will turn all smash speculation upside down. People have banked on him as confirmed since even before the fighter pass. That would definitely stir the pot that's for sure.

People have put their whole reputations on the line because of Steve and Erdrick. **** is gonna go down if neither of them get in.
It would be glorious to see all the leakers and the insiders lose all their credibility because the conversation would be a lot more interesting if everybody was just focusing on their own observation of who is going to get in whether than flock to one character that insiders are saying is going to be in like Erdrick.

Watch Sakurai fool us all and put in Yooka-Laylee over Banjo.
I like Yooka & Laylee, but they don't hold a candle next to Banjo & Kazooie. Sorry Yooka & Laylee fans.

There’s only one thing that makes me believe banjo is coming and that is rare replay on the switch
Or the N64 Mini with Rareware games on it.

I know no one will believe me because everything is anonymous but I made the initial banjo Post in the first thread that started it all. I am the mother of sevens.
Or should we say the godmother.

Guys without the tweets I just don’t see steve coming
That doesn't mean a thing for his chances.

Honestly, he was announced way too early. Thankfully we should get a direct soon. I just hope we get another character announced in the same direct.
I believe we will get a 2nd character announced along with Joker this month and that 2nd character will be released around E3 along with maybe character 3.

Not to say it can't happen this month, but I truly believe if Banjo & Kazooie are in the Fighters Pass Nintendo will save their announcement for E3.

1. Bass (Megaman)
2. Tails
3. Knuckles
4. Shadow
5. Dig Dug
6. Erdrick
7. Slime
8. Sora

They all say hi. I am probably leaving some off as well. There is also additional Nintendo IP to dig into. I would love to see Western Franchises like Banjo-Kazooie, Rayman, Crash Bandicoot, etc. make it in.
Considering Bass is Capcom like I mentioned, you listed like 3 Sonic characters and 2 Dragon Quest (which again I already mentioned) you're kinda proving my point.

What's more is Sora is owned by Disney, a western company.

People have been expecting to be disappointed this time around, so it'd be wonderful for them to actually be pleasantly surprised for once.

Yeah, it's like NO ONE LEARNED A SINGLE THING from 4. I don't remember people going completely loony waiting for Mewtwo to drop. It's as if people completely forgot that they have a backlog of other games to play with and ergo have something to do other than win some silly Internet argument.

Granted, Mewtwo wasn't an entirely new character and he was released on the first of this month, so that may have helped, I guess.

It's bad enough that the Joker fans were accused of being impatient in their own thread even though they were just discussing what he could come with (at least at the time).

Agreed. If Banjo is in, that's the kind of reveal you save for E3 to ow everyone's mind; especially with Nintendo and Microsoft running unopposed now that Sony is skipping

You got to remember that fan favorites wasn't the key part of the discussion at the time since the Smash Ballot wasn't announced until the same month Mewtwo came out. Ever since the Smash Ballot was first announced in April of 2015, fan favorites were on most peoples mind as a possibility.

It was still a waiting game of sorts after that. No one that was supported in the ballot came out until :ultbayonetta:, at the very end of the DLC cycle (and yes, I recall that the ballot ended on October 2015, so people still had to wait for the results, which turned out to mostly be saved for the next game, a part that's only mentioned on the Japanese site).

I have to pity the one user who thought that :ultpichu: would be the final character to be revealed...

Not necessarily. Luigi's Mansion 3, Mario Maker and Smash itself were all major games that were announced in casual directs.

Smash's E3 announcements themselves haven't always been major. One year it was just Palutena and Miis.

If this game ever gets a western rep(which it won't) it'll be Steve. Sakurai and Japan have a huge hard-on for Minecraft. And we all know this game is built on Sakurai's wants.
https://www.siliconera.com/2019/04/...witch-13-sentinels-aegis-rims-delay-and-more/
Oh, I wasn't aware that you knew what Sakurai wanted in Smash. Why speculate, when we can just consult you?

Sakurai likes Minecraft. He likes a lot of games. Doesn't mean they end up in Smash. Just because Nintendo is partnering up with Microsoft doesn't mean Banjo & Kazooie will be in, or that even a Microsoft rep will be in. But he gave us his rules--they must originate in a video game, a connection to Nintendo is preferred, not required. That's it. The lack of Western reps is more to do with proximity and implicit bias, rather than an outright refusal.
