I generally use the stick to jump when I'm trying to chain together U-airs (notably with Falcon), because I have a nasty habit of pressing the C-button to jump, and mashing the control stick up and hitting A to attack, using up both of my jumps in what appears to be a single jump...

what would be the best deadzone for this controller:

DO NOT BE FOOLED!

the joysticks are very sensitive and loose;nothing like a ps2 joystick. (from my experience)
the buttons can be sensitive also, and the d-pad is shifty.

i am planning to get a new controller soon, but i would like some help anyway.

edit: here's my setup.

A=2
B=1
Z=R1
C-up=3
L=L1
R1=Z (Z-canceling seems faster to me then R.)

i would use 4% if you use the analog stick...i use a ps3 so my controller is basically the same "style" as yours...heres my setup

A = 2
B = 1
C-Down = 3
C-up = 4
L= L1
R= R2
Z=R1

only difference is i use R to cancel lol...not Z

Hello,
I'm playing smash via project64k and a n64 adapter.
The button positioning is really good (short distance from A to B to C-Buttons) but the analog stick is pretty bad and that's why I decided to buy a new gamepad.
My Question:
Is there any specific gamepad that is ideal for playing smash?
I prefer short button distances for faster reactions, a good analog stick and the A,B,C,R buttons easy accessible with the right hand. I also prefer an usb only gamepad (not like n64 where you have to use an adapter)

Thanks

I haven't personally tried this, but people have had good success with a wired Xbox controller.

They usually run around $40, but are worth it, or so I hear.

I don't know much else about other gamepads that would suit your needs.

I have an old Sega Genesis USB gamepad, but suffice to say that it's not suitable for smash!

N64 is the best. Just buy a new N64 controller/joystick if you already have the adapter. Or go KB because that's even better.

If you are looking for a controller with short distances between the buttons, an xbox360 controller will be good but not great. The button positions are a bit far away but it isn't too bad and it is probably your best alternative. I would suggest a gamecube controller but for some reason no one sells adapters for that anymore.

Is there still actual console tournaments for SSB or is it all ran online? and if so do they post the tournaments on this site? and where would they be located if they do post them on this site?

well, except the Pacific west area, there arent many offline tourneys for ssb64. At least not outside USA. Dont know how many that read the Kanto tournament thread, but that big live tournament was one of the funniest things I ever attend, so I hope there will be more offline tourneys in the future. Its a atmosphere you dont get while playing online.

Check the "competitive events" subforum for all your offline and online tournament needs.

Online tourneys show up pretty often. Offline not so often, but if you're willing to travel they're held once in a while as well.

alright thank you seeing how I live in florida it's a long drive or flight to the pacific west. I do hold offline tournaments at a local store here i mean the cash payout isn't that good but would it be recommended to post about it on here just for people in the region to see?

Yeah, do so. Sheer lives in Florida, I know, so he might come over and **** all y'all if he feels like it. There are some other florida peeps as well, I think; go check the Player Finder sticky to see.

We've got 3 mods so I don't think we're exactly looking for open spots lol. I remember Blue Yoshi got his position because we didn't have a mod at the time and were annoyed because it was the same old story of the higher-ups not treating Smash 64 with the respect we deserve.

Moogle got his because the Admins decided we needed another one and Moogle looked to be the best candidate to them.

I think Surri posted how he got his modship but I forget.

Basically the rule for almost every forum I know is that the more you ask to be one the less chance you have getting it. If you're right for the job and we actually do need another mod they'll choose you.

I'm trying to record some training mode combos using Mupen's record feature. However, whenever I use playback the inputs seem to be a few frames off, which causes the entire playback to phail. Anybody know why this problem occurs, and how it can be solved?

SH D-air --> Uair vs falcon = fail for mario

Use fireballs as effectively as you can...Nair is good for cutting falcon off when he tries to rush in for a Uair or Usmash...then you can try your Dair or Uair combos once you've gathered some hitstun....

basicly, throw and defend is your best option vs falcon as mario...

Marios good recovery, projectile, Back Throw and mid-weight make him a good choice vs falcon

...No? Why do you say so?

And nobody knows the answer to my previous question? D:
Generally i mean people try to approach to much with drills. They are easy to DI out of and usually have pretty low priority (lest kirby)... so using Dair with mario vs Falcon is an best saved for more situational spots... I prefer Fair or Uair honestly ...always fireballs though...neber forget xD

And sorry, i dont use Mupenz :(

you mean press it fast
Lol.Does anybody have the frame data on that by chance?

Also, on a Doug-related note, if you're fighting him as Link ( a non-campy/spammy one btw) any advice on avoiding his(CF) camp->throw/usmash->combos->death ability?Or do you have to counter this with projectile/out-camping?

camp falcon like youve never camped anyone before.
never try to go near him coz he'll just dash grab or some SHlT.

but when you do get caught in an usmash chain, DI as hard has you can.

for uairs, i guess you're pretty much screwed.

never go in the tent.

stay in the middle of the stage. for most times.
edge guard him as hardcorely as possible.(hes easy to edgeguard)

Link combos well on CF so try and get those usmash/utilts workin.

SPAM PROJECTILES

Edit: i see you said "not a spammy one"

But theres just no other way.

yeah i try not using the nair oh so much but i forget it is a sex kick meaning more start to end frames.

Also, if hes about to doug hug your ***, spam upb. You might escape.
UP B da bess.

At least initially. There won't be enough hitstun for you to act again before Falcon can since he's so **** heavy.

Not true, you can combo Falcon with Dairs-Uairs from the get-go at 0%.
I've gotten some uairs combos offa CF at 0%, doesn't work fantastic though.

This is also quite easily done at that....unless they DI behind you and your uair turns into a reversal or just plain misses.
End result of such attempt. :(

All thats true, but i still dont think using Dair as an approach often is a good idea :p

Again due to you can DI like Kuz said...and its easy to get intercepted
Agreed, gotta use nair or fair.

Yo soup. Don't double post. Also, when I'm teachin' some nubs how to dougie, and they're linkin' it up, what really annoys me is good bomb use. If a link only uses boomerang, he's easy to get inside of. Gotta use dat Down-B to break through Doug's cracked-up wall.

I don't actually play link, this is just my experience from the other side of the matchup.
