A$ has been one of the the most consistently active people in the 64 boards as far as I can tell, so I guess it strikes me as strange that you keep saying you're more active than him. But w/e.

Anyways, can any of you COMBO MASTERS out there tell me how you come up with your ideas for creative training mode combos? I feel like my combos always end up being boring.

Yeah, even when I'm not posting that much, I'm still reading just about everything. I'm rarely on at 7AM though, so I guess if we're on different hours that's a good thing. :)

I'm definitely not one of those people, but one idea is to think of one move you've never seen or very rarely see in a combo (whether it's a training mode combo or in actual matches) in a particular way, then try to create your combo around that one move.

Alright so help me out here guys. I'm trying to get P64K to work. I'm pretty much ready. Went through the proper tuts and have my PS3 controller right next to me ready to play, but when I open up the SSB rom, it says that the .exe isn't responding. Someone help me out. I'm pulling my hair out and I think the problem could be that I have Vista

No, I wasn't aware that they had one. I'll take a look at it now.

****ing Vista man. I wish I had XP instead

EDIT:

Ok so it works now. Now all I need to see is how to get my controller to play instead of the keyboard and I'll be good to go online

EDIT2:

Ok, help me out again. I plug in my PS3 controller and I installed the driver to make SIXAXIS controllers compatible. Now when I try to input what buttons I want for different things, instead of doing the little countdown to let me input the button, it just automatically goes to Joystick Right. I don't know what I did wrong. Perhaps I miscalibrated the controller? If so, someone tell me what **** like Z axis and X axis and stuff are so I can calibrate it right please?

That happens to me sometimes. Try restarting PJ64K, and making sure your stick is in the very center.

Whats the benefit of shield dropping. I see every pros do it.
You can dash into a shield drop. You're also shielding for the majority of it so you're harder to hit.

Also it might be faster than a normal drop, I've heard this but I'm not sure.

I hope I qualify as a COMBO MASTER.

It depends. I agree with A$ that what makes for a good combo is doing something that people haven't seen before. Sometimes I just start comboing and come up with a cool idea. Other times I plan out the combo to lead into a particular move sequence (my shine tornado firefox combo hehe).

I'd start with something basic and see how you can change it up and try something new. Think of at least one interesting move combination you want to put in, and then how you are going to lead into and out of that combo. One other thing is to keep upping the complexity. If you start off with something cool, try to put in at least one more crazy thing, particularly at the finish, because we are all tired of seeing the same finishers over and over again.

For one of my fox combos I had the idea to do repeated downsmashes off the tent area of hyrule, and at first I was going to do only 2 in a row until I realized that 3 would work. Then I wasn't sure how to end it, so I tried to put in one more cool thing by doing a shine jab finish.

Or on my Yoshi on Pikachu combo I thought that comboing pika across the stage and then into an infinite was a great idea, and then I tried to make it a good finish by ending with a jab, because I had never seen a combo ended with a jab before.

The only bad thing is that sometimes you do something that is cool or difficult but that viewers won't notice. The fox combo had some cool laser stuff in it but you won't know how hard it is to do unless you attempt the combo yourself.

You can only do eight directions with Fox's/Pika's recovery. And pf course you need to buffer for tilts/walk.

I might be forgetting something but I think that's it.

Quoted for truth. Ignorant masses don't deserve your comboes :chuckle:
I also wanted to add, to what you said: Use the stage to your advantage. Scratch that, abuse the stage. **** IT.

Actually, you can. While walking, leave the direction pressed and tap the shield while walking. You are now moving a character. Video (first three seconds): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP2cjwHBrYs

I just tried again and the thing keeps saying that I gave it Joy Right as the input for the button.

What the hell am I doing wrong? I even tested the online on it and it works, I just can't get the controller to work. I'd stop with the trouble and just take out my Xbox 360 controller, but the thing is so old that I have to shuffle the cable for the thing to turn on and like a year after I ditched it that I try, it doesn't even stay on for a second that it turns off, leading me to replace it.

So yeah... someone tell me what I did wrong on my PS3 controller

Ok so I thought I'd share this.

I ended up fixing up my PS3 controller and it ended up busting up due to me not calibrating it right. So I just restored it to my defaults and yay it works. Now I need to assign buttons for the Analog sticks. Anybody know how I'm supposed to do it? I pull the stick up for it to say it went up, but it won't work for some reason.
