You're right, Falcon's uair just has different angles.

Lol why don't you guys use that spreadsheet Toomai made? It's quite useful to compare things. Like I didn't know Falcon's aerial falcon punch has a bigger hitbox. Also it has a lot of valuable frame data on there.
I would but I don't know how to use it.

Well if you just care about damage, knockback, angle, etc, then my text files that I included in the calculator zip file is good enough. It has the damage & knockback for everything except for Link's bomb collision (it's formula based), floor attacks, and edge attacks (I'll probably add them this week).

If you want to learn about timing, hitbox size, hitbox position, etc, then you should use toomai's spreadsheet. I edited it and added throw info, and labeled the columns specifically for hitbox data. I labeled fthrow dmg and bthrow dmg for the row with the real throw data. Also column B is address for training mode dreamland, if you ever want to tweak moveset data. I also hid a few columns I didn't feel I needed, like character name, sound effects, etc. Here's the edited version.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

What are the general strategies for beating

Pikachu
Fox
Falcon

If you're a Kirby player guys?

I'm a newb Kirby player and having a little better luck than before against Pikachu, but I don't know What I need to do/avoid against those three. I have been told against Pikachu not to try and spam grab against it. Other than that, I don't have a clue. So as a Kirby player, what would you guys recommend me do against those three? Oh, Fox seems to be the hardest matchup for me, I think because of his speed and deadly combos. Don't know what to do. :(

BTW: I cannot do up-tilt with Kirby whenever I want. Usually I would jab and then hold up diagonally ASAP and then I would be able to do up-tilt. Otherwise, if I walk and do up-tilt, I would end up in the air with the stupid spin move. It's frustrating! :crying:

This is a problem. I think people sometimes exaggerate how good the move is, but you definitely need to be able to do it. Go into training mode. Tilt the control stick halfway (do not jump; if you do, reset to neutral and try again). Press A. You should see utilt come out. Do it again, but with less of a delay.

Lightly move it. Also Kirby's grab is actually petty bad. Like really, really bad. the main thing for Kirby is to space back aerials, down aerials, and d-tilts.
Honestly, get used to using up tilt as it is one of the best moves in the entire series.

Kirby's utilt is probably the best move between 64 and Melee. I don't know anything about Brawl though so there might be a better move in there.

Nah Foxes Down B in Melee and Brawl's Ice Climber's Grab are both better moves than 64 Kirby Utilt.

I understand Kirby's uptilt is pretty good, which is why I'm asking how do I do it whenever I want. I have tried lightly tap up but I get jump instead. The only way I can get uptilt is if I spam a move and then hold UP or UP diagonally while pressing A to do uptilt. Other then that, no luck. I guess I will have to keep trying. I would love to just walk or run and then stop and pull out an uptilt, but always get jump. I guess smash isn't for me, lol.

As for as strategies go. How do you beat a fox who keeps trying to run around you and grab you? That is so annoying. I cannot stop fox players from doing that due to my slow speed. A lot of times I know what Pikachu and fox are going to do but I don't know what moves to pull out to prevent them from getting in and combo or grab me. :(

Are you using an official/1st party joystick? If you're using a crappy 3rd party GC style stick it could be a weird range/deadzone on your joystick.

Try to just walk slowly, and work the joystick up from there. You generally want to be holding diagonally up, like NE and NW. Maybe that's why you're jumping, you're trying to go 100% north (up) on the joystick. Holding it diagonally allows you to change which side of you the utilt comes out from.

As for Fox, bair is a great spacer and edgeguard.

Anybody else getting lag spikes on FU right now? Especially Pennsylvanian's, anyone else have more ping than they should? I usually get 17 ping and today I'm averaging about 50-60. It's only FU, every other server gives me my normal ping range.

No, nothing is being downloaded.
FU is the only server being affected.
I'm wired.
No reason at all for me to be ping spiking....

I'm using the official n64 controller. You're right, whenever I try to uptilt, I hold up all the way. I'll give it more practice.

As for great spacer, how would you recommend me go about it? Run around and dodge fox and Pikachu's attacks while grabbing and d-drill them? I don't have trouble against other characters except these two. Don't know why. :urg:

bair and dair are kirby's best tools in the air. face away from your opponent and jump a lot. but learn how to utilt (if you jump you are pressing the joystick up too far) so you can play the ground game too. and use kirbys other tilts too. filt and dtilt are often better than grab.

I don't get why I'm so imprecise. If I'm yoshi spamming utilts against a shield I always get grabbed. If I'm shielding against a yoshi spamming utilts and try to grab I always get hit (or stay in shield). Is there a technique? Spamming the button or trying to time it doesn't change anything. It's always the same with any kind of "shield pressure" (Fox's jab, Fox's jab dtilt, etc).

yeah yoshi's utilt on shield is ********. Rather, I'm probably ******** and I deal with it, or I'm mistiming it, OR its also the lag/frame delay because its a tight window?

You suck at frame wars. Welcome to the luxurious club.

I finally tested the frame adv. of Yoshi's U-tilt spam vs shield, and it's ridiculous. Yoshi's FA is 5. The U-tilt comes out in 7. So you're getting hit on frame 2 of whatever input you did. Rolls, jumps, and shieldgrabs don't come out/are effective in 2 frames. So the solution is: get better at those frame wars.
When I was practicing Kirby's Fsmash into instant rock I figured you gotta look at the attack animation to have better timing.

Theories on this?

Ness is vulnerable during his whole f-smash, so no blue frames.
There's the jumping-into-the-3D-world possibility, such as when DK taunts or Pikachu up-Bs -- which despite being vulnerable in hitbox mode will still avoid hitboxes.

So is Ness invulnerable only to projectiles?
Is it so the charged beam won't hit him in the face right after its knockback is reversed with the bat hit? I think it is, because in Melee they fixed this by making Ness reflect projectiles with his body, not his bat.

I just time it (I think - sometimes it's hard to remember the way I press buttons when I'm not playing the game). Make sure it's not stale. If you're uncomfortable with following up a utilt on shield, maybe you could parry jump after the utilt.

Do you have audio? Maybe it's "reflecting" the charge shot but sending it in the way Ness is facing, if you get what I'm saying. If so, it would have the "ping" audio.

EDIT: Yep tested it, had the ping audio, so it's reflection.

Damn. If you combo the f-smash with it, it's a 0 to death (65% total)

That comment made me realize I've never watched a video of a 64 doubles tournament.

Hey guys! :)

I just signed up to his forum, and I'd like to start up Super smash again!

I didn't know people still played it, but after hearing about "competetive super smash" - I kinda had to check it out.
And may I add; I'm ASTOUNED to see the level of todays player!

I remember when I first played this, many years ago, a child, I played casually with friend, but not like you do.
it was silly normal attacks, no combos, just lucky hits and fun!

however, I'd like to start it up again, but I can't seem to understand how you do those combos?
everytime I use an attack, it seems as if there's a looooooong delay before I can do other ones, but when I watch you guys you're doing 4 attacks in a row before touching the grand. After one attack, I'm just floating in the air until I land.

I've searched for tutorials on youtube, but there's no "beginners" guide. There's only guides that would suggest you've already played a lot and are familiar with all the game-terms and combo-names (and how to use them) - Are there any streamers/channels/videos that go in to full-detail on how to play?

Would appreciate some help :)!

Z-canceling and short hopping are like the raw techniques you need

to learn how to do 'em and how to be awesome just play with good players for a while. Online play is pretty legit, you should get a controller adapter and try it out if that's your sort of thing.

I'm having some issues with my netplay setup --- whenever I enter a match with someone on it, player 2 can't move his controller regardless of whether I'm the host or I join. Cheats are the same. Any ideas?
