So I figured I'd do a blog just cuz. It'll gimme a spot where I can vent, talk, blah blah blah.

So ANYway, I'm having a problem with this one guy. He keeps talking about how ******** anime is, and how it's all the same, and people who like it are dorks who need a life. We'll that's all well and good except for the fact that nothing he said is true. Not ALL anime/manga is the same, there are PLENTY more genres than in American cartoons. As for them all LOOKING the same, no. Though it's very true that alot of them look alot alike, there are those where the art style is distictly different. Just look at DBZ, Death Note and Vampire Knight. The art style in each is VERY different, and the stories are nowhere NEAR the same.

And I can say that most anime/manga lovers are dorks/nerds/lesbians. Though there are a few that are pretty "normal". I myself and most of my friends being some. Okay I lied, I'm kinda dorky, but not the nerdy, socially-challenged kind. The thing I have problems with the most is the fact that when they say anime is ********, they insult Japanese culture. Anime is a traditional Japanese cartoon style. It's like saying all Americans are fat.

I also hate when people say that things like Avatar the Last Airbender and Teen Titans are Anime just because of the art style. That is a fail. Anime is a Japanese Cartoon rendered in the anime animation style, usually based on a manga. You can call it Americanime if you want, but please don't say it's the exact same as Japanese Anime.

That's pretty much all that's on my mind right now. Laterz.

To me, Anime is comparable to mainstream western TV.

Most of it sucks, but there are a few gems.

Tell him that, I mean, how many domestic shows does he watch. I bet he doesn't watch a lot.

You could say the same for condoms, doesn't make them enjoyable to use.

Anyhoo, what Teran said. Anime stereotypes aren't imaginary things people who hate japan make up, there are lots of really awful anime out there with an art style I can't distinguish very well from other anime. Same could be said for pretty much any form of media. Ever.

I cannot engross myself in any tv shows with long / complex plots. I watch shows like Psych and NCIS, where the characters are fairly static.

Thus, I don't watch anime b/c there's just no way for me to start. I used to watch DBZ when I was a kid, but I got lost during middle school. I tried watching G-Gundam again b/c I loved it as a kid, but stopped 10 episodes in. Tried Naruto and failed.

The only anime I ever finished watching was .hack//Sign. I'm not too sure what to think of it, because I don't feel like I absorbed any major morals...

I like to think we're overstimulated; there are TOO many distractions these days and never enough time.

Don't tell me what to call a cartoon. It's either all cartoons or all anime, I don't see the difference.

Of course someone thinks anime is dorky when they don't watch it themselves. God****, have you seen one of those anime conventions, it's all crazy Japanese and cosplayers in there. I'm wary when I meet an anime fan as well. I once met one irl, became sorta friends and then she showed me the yaoi she'd been drawing and i was like :'( my soul.

P.S. Yay Falcon is back.

Anything can be creepy, that's no reason to be afraid of everything because it might be creepy.

You can't fully appreciate how amazing cosplaying is until you've done it yourself.

This.

A thousand times this.

Same can be said for manga, too.

Nice Blanket statement that applies to everything ever.

My best friend fits the stereotype for a 'weaboo' pretty much down to every detail, people have more than enough reason to see big anime fans as a little weird, and I've yet to see people defend them who weren't big fanboys/girls themselves.

Bias sure is cute isn't it.

Can't apply debate-logic to an opinion, bro.

Its a way to state an opinion without stating anything though. Way to review a movie you've never seen: The book was better.
Its a blanket statement that doesn't really mean anything and doesn't even state an opinion.

Hey man, what do you think of anime?
Dude
Yeah, but what do you think of anime?
Dude!
Well?
Dude!

I'm well aware of what you meant by "blanket statement." I'm just defending Teran's right to be as lazy as I am when it comes to explaining my tastes in something.

Lol. Besides, it wasn't like he came in here and trolled the living hell out of this whole topic. In fact he actually posited a pretty good question to the OP about seeing/reading things outside of the anime/manga medium. Perhaps if the question was answered, we could glean a little more insight and take the topic further...

...or it could be I'm just talking out of my ***. tl;dr it's harmless and it's lazy.

Edit: And a waste of space.

anime/manga medium
Ever since when are manga and anime considered a different medium than film and comics?

Anyway, (going back to the op) I remeber laughing pretty hard when I overheard a debate on weither or not Avatar is an anime.

I do have to say that it's stupid to judge all of Japan based off of anime. It's kind of like judging China based off of Jet Li movies.

There are conventions in anime/manga that are (nearly) exclusive to the genre, which is why you usually don't crop anime/manga in with your standard fare (Western) movie, (Western) show, (Western) graphic novel and/or (Western) comic book. That's what I was implying, but meh.

Or America for Disney.

A nations cartoons =/= equal the nations value as a country.
I'm with you here, Crash (edit: And 'ark, for that matter). I kinda raised an eyebrow at the OP when the guy took somebody's distaste for anime as an insult to the culture. Lest they forget that there's kind of a precedent there---it's called the rest of the country.
