no this is the thread where we point of everything

also pathways is starting to sound crazy hyped lol
Why would you point of everything?

And yes, this Pathways is going to be amazing. You guys need to seriously get IHSB and Iori to show. And Chamberlain.

Chamberlain

Also, just because we take our sisters around back sometimes doesn't mean our mamas didn't learn us good about spellin and the like. Do not patronize me, sir.

@Will: "I say what I mean and meant what I say."

Tense disjunction.

Better a pretentious American exceptionalist hipster hater biter than some noob who thinks that a comma goes next to a conjunction in a list.

Okay, of course this is wrong, I already told you that. That sentence has a parallelism problem that leads to the confusion. The strippers is plural while JFK and stalin is singular, making the sentence imply your second meaning. To Fix your stupid sentence,

LOL, what a great example.
never got this till now.
Sigh Rusty going around making the world a little more stupid.

EXCEPT that sounds absolutely ********. While parallelism is an extremely esoteric and useless nitpick in this situation, completely missing the much larger issue of simple comprehension. The oxford comma is strictly superior in every case always. Leaving it out can inhibit understanding, while including it... never actually has a negative effect.

Parallelism would render the seemingly innocuous sentence "I bought three yams, a turkey, and some packets of gravy mix" into something nearly unintelligible to modern English.

It doesn't matter what it sounds like. Commas are of main importance while reading. And reading an oxford comma is like being punched in the face with stupidity.

"I bought 3 yams along with a turkey and some gravy mix."

Would you look at that. Proper English grammar.

Avoids the issue, doesn't address it.

There's a damn brown recluse crawling around my room, and I have no idea where it went. How in the hell am I supposed to sleep tonight!

"We went shopping at Wal-Mart, Target, and Barnes and Noble." <-Arby's way

"We went shopping at Wal-Mart, Target and Barnes and Noble." <-March Hare's way

Arby's way offers quite a bit more clarification of what exactly is going on. I agree with him.

EXCEPT the proper title is Barnes & Noble.

"We went shopping at Wal-Mart, Target and Barnes & Noble."

Much less confusion.

You're avoiding the issue though. Guess what? I just opened a book store called "Michael and son." Your turn.
In such cases it would probably be better to avoid the use of the title in a list.
"We went shopping at Michael and son; we also went shopping at Wal-Mart, Target and Barnes & Noble."

You follow a strictly inferior rule that is by no means definitive. Your argument might hold some water (pretentious as it is) if grammarians were in agreeance on the subject. Thankfully for logic and common sense everywhere, they're not.

This enlightening discussion just wasted at least a page's worth of the paper. Ah well. I'll be back at it in the morning, so feel free to join in when you feel like it.

****ing modern grammarians. Arguing with jason on the subject always ends with his But-people-don't-actually-speak-that-way argument.

My dad's a very traditional grammarian. I'll stick with the way I was raised, because it looks right to me.

Following a bunch of rules that a couple of pretentious 19th century arseholes came up with that has very little basis on the language that we ACTUALLY speak sounds like a bad idea.

Take for example the rule about the incorrectness of ending a sentence with a preposition:

What did you do that to?
Or the far more common
What did you do that for?

And what about the everyday sentence
Please tell me where that hippo came from.

If this doesn't convince you look at the following sentence.

He gave up the game

Traditional grammarians would say that the S- He V- gave AdvP - up the game

BUT WHAT **** Does UP THE GAME EVEN MEAN

Transformational Grammarians consider up a verb particle that was once etymologically speaking a preposition but no longer functions such, but rather as part of the very itself so.

V - Gave Up
What did he give up?
DO- the game

Millions of other examples of the limiting nature of Traditional grammar exists.
It is not the job of grammarians to judge or to enforce (we aren't the grammar police) but rather to note to record, like historians. Impartial observers to a system far greater than we can comprehend.

Got way too much stuff to do Seif. Sorry, but that's just how it's going to be for me for a while because between now and May 19th, I take 3 tests, do 5 portfolio assignments, and study to make sure I can pass my exams. Not to mention the night shifts that I have to work this week, the sleep schedule that I have to continue to prepare for them, AND trying to apply to the VA, which is harder than you'd think :/

oh, and I graduate May 19th. So pretty much gotta plan for that and my Pinning ceremony on the 18th.

Texarkana??

Dude, that's like 40 minutes away from where my parents live in Bradley. One weekend when I'm in visiting my folks, I'll have to come and play with you. Texarkana...man that's my old stomping grounds. You play Melee right?
