Lol Ryu. He finally gets to be top tier, at least for now.

Boo Rufus and Chun Li. Peach+Jigglypuff homosexual demon childs. They bring great ruin on any metagame foolish enough to embrace them.

Yeahhh for Juri making the highish tier. And once again my big slugger finds himself in the dead heat of mid tier :/ ...go figure.

Arby, would you wanna smash today? My buddy has a girl over each thursday and uh, I don't like being here just a whole lot.

Yeah sure. I have a ten minute conversation with my Spanish teacher at 4:30, but otherwise I'm done for the day. Philosophy test went really well I think :)

Then we can start Graces later on tonight maybe.

Great thread on improvement.
edit:
if you want to improve at something, come to it often and with love
good way to put it

this is what i've thought for a long time

the ultimate, #1, super-pro top secret tip for getting really good at melee is you gotta love the game (should be really easy cuz melee's sick as ****)

if you don't love the game, or you can't see yourself loving it anymore, or you feel like you're forcing yourself to play it, you aren't gonna see real improvement and you're gonna end up hating everything!
if you have a rotation, try just closing your eyes, breathing, and chilling out once you have to wait your turn. this always helps me a lot. just be grateful to play, no matter what the circumstances are (and especially if you only get a few chances a week!). practicing/playing with friends should be enjoyable in and of itself. don't worry about not living up to your expectations.

i think this has a lot to do with playing with an ego
just try to remain as chill and focused as you can, don't forget to enjoy yourself :p

Everone on tappedout is going crazy about that deck I posted earlier. Kinda weird.
That's cause that deck is >:I

I've made one like it, but I used to make only T2 so it didn't have the life gain win con.

But, I need a shameless advertisement now, http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/changeling-control/ . That's one of the old decks I really liked. I found a combo I didn't realize it had just now as well. Wings + Reejerey + Greenseeker + Haakon. Discard your whole hand and get a huge flyer, or multiple huge fliers. Mana shouldn't be a problem if you have wings, greenseeker and Haakon already.

Cool deck! Slap modern on it as your format and I'll feature it for you.

Arby, what you think about Flaming Lips?

Not trying to be mean. When we smash he gets pretty furious and I think it holds him back.

:phone:
I threw my controller once and got angry because you shine spiked me at 0% twice in a row. I got angry another time because Terrence was camping the ledge and backthrow shinespiking me. Other than that, I do fine against every other player but you.

Its no surprise that I got a little frustrated after playing with you and Terrence after I played none and you guys played a bunch over the course of 2 weeks, so don't tell me to play more when I don't even get invited.

I quit the game, regardless, because it doesn't matter. If I move to a different region I will start playing again but I really don't feel like getting my hopes up to play only to have you wreck me and Terrence sandbag.

just built this a few mins ago, what do you think?

Lol a modular deck, my friend tried to make one of those. They're really irritating if you let them be but if they can knock out your early swinger, you might have a hard time. Energy Chamber might have a place in your deck. If you give me a few days of figuring stuff out, I'll be more help. I just spent like 10 minutes trying to find that card....

Man, it sure would suck to get shine spiked.
I'm SUPER glad no one does it down here in Arkansas.
And CAMPING. Boy isn't that annoying. I wouldn't DREAM of back throwing someone to edge guarding them.
In fact, I don't even Edge guard. I just let them come back.
Cause that's the Nice thing to do.

Hey Smash brethren, the twins are going to be here from this Sunday to next Saturday. Vts can contact some people and organize a smashfest (at my apartment, with at least four setups). But we need to know when you (aka Chamberlin) can come. I figure Vice and Ace will be more flexible considering spring break and Ace's improved schedule, so this is really about Clay. Even if everyone can't get together on one day (say, next Thursday or Friday night?), please try to come over at least once and play the twins. They're smash-starved lol.
Arby, what you think about Flaming Lips?
Fantastic. Best thing Oklahoma has produced by a long shot.

I was first introduced by Everlasting Yay :bee:

Holy crap, do not watch the Gametrailers review of Tales of Graces. Spoiler freaking everywhere.

Final score 6.7. Main complaints where 'Too easy, bland dialogue, and no exploration.'

Eh, I think it personally has potential. Not everyone is gonna play it on hard, and anyway this game is already making me sad just from the few hours we've played...I can see this game being really good imo.

Ziv, no I did not. That's a guy by the name of John actually lol. That was more his gamertag, and when I met him and people called him that I was very very confused.

Arby, I'm gonna play the twins. You can bet your bottom dollar. I'm off all week. I won't be able to play them this weekend, but besides that...they'll see their fill of me :D

Man Gametrailers can suck a duck. Fans talking about its depth of content, great battle engine, and good story is enough reassurance for me. Besides, we're playing a four person RPG. It could be Final Fantasy XIII and we'd still find a way to make it fun lol.

Edit: Yeah, what Vice said.

Usually I think their reviews are pretty even handed, but they where pretty harsh on this one. 'Too easy' is pretty simple to fix, and the dialogue/voice acting isn't great but not bad. 'No exploration' seems to be a valid complaint, I'll admit.

There was one complaint that stood out as bizarre. The criticized Aston as being overly harsh and borderline abusive, cutting to him slapping Asbel after the Bryce battle, which I find pretty absurd. If anything he's letting Asbel off too lighting considering Asbel's actions.

Really, I can't forgive them for giving the awful awful Symphonia 2 a much higher score.

Me and Chambs couldn't even get five hours into that garbage.

Besides, we're playing a four person RPG. It could be Final Fantasy XIII and we'd still find a way to make it fun lol.
Actually, 3/4 player FFXIII would be pretty awesome, considering that the AI partners were the main issue sucking the fun out of the battle system.

G. Vice, did you used to go by Prince Zane?
Would make sense. :troll:

Talking to Adam back in the day. Well, it's 2012. Let's put it to the test boys!
Bring it. I'll take Chambers down to 3 stocks if it's the last thing i do. :smirk:

I am soooo Hyped. It'll be a nice Relaxation after a terrible terrible semester. Good lord I'm about to collapse. Imputing the hours needed to study for biochemistry and genetics, 10-20 hours a week, hours needed for research, 30 hours a week, all my other classes studying, 2 hours a week, finishing up my research project from last semester, 10 hours a week, time spent in working in genetics research, 15 hours a week, time spent in classes, 20 hours a week. Sleep 42 hours a week. And I do all of this during the weekdays so minus 36 hours from my week.

I'm putting in 7 more hours of work than I actually have in a week. Guess I sleep less than I thought I did. :'(
Good prep for med school I suppose. :D

I'm not talking about when you throw your controller. I'm just talking about the frustration you get when you play people better than you. Unfortunately you guys rarely get the chance to see how I react when that happens to me. I sat and played with Jace for hours the last time I seen him and it was amazing. If you read the convo between SFAT and Lovage though they are really just talking about playing the game for the fun and joy of it. Getting better will come naturally when you're having fun. When you get combo'd, laugh about it. When you make a good combo, laugh. When you play though, you rarely seem to be having fun. This last time we played, the first match was super intense. You were moving very quickly. You were playing smart. I barely won. But I'm not sure if you were expecting to win or what but after that match you just got lazy and weren't going balls to the wall anymore (which I do every match). During that first set I was thinking "dang, that two week break from Melee really did him good, he's playing so good right now!" Then after that match all I heard about was how you feel like you've gotten worse because you hadn't played in two weeks. When in actuality that first match was probably the best I've ever seen you play.

But I want you to understand that NOBODY is leaving you out. I work Saturdays and Sundays now. You are in high school. I'm expected to organize each and every smashfest and provide transportation to everybody without a penny of gas money. Sometimes I'll just get Terrence. This is because for 1) when we smash with you, you usually get upset at some point 2) you have to be home earlier on weekdays for school, and you only recently offered to have your grandpa pick you up, which we were going to do yesterday but you bailed on us 3) When Terrence comes he just stays the night which makes things very easy for everybody because I'm not driving across town on my own dime without a drivers license by a cop infested college twice a day.

And otherwise, Terrence is getting bored just playing me over and over so that last few times we've played have been completely fruitless because he's not even trying. Which in all honesty is almost worse than not playing at all. Him and I are going to take a break from playing each other for a bit. Probably two weeks? Sometimes it's just good to take a break and refresh yourself. If we can get the other guys more motivated to play I think it would benefit us all, but right now it's just really difficult since I work Saturdays.

But this: "If I move to a different region I will start playing again" is pretty insulting. For one, Terrence and I are scrubs. We are pretty bad. And even though we are getting better, the pace has slowed since nobody else is showing interest of playing. If you move to a different region with the same attitude, you're going to get wrecked just as bad. Don't try to say it's just ME. That excuse isn't going to work anymore and I'm not buying it. But to say that moving to a different region, where the players are likely going to be just as good if not a lot better, and play again? That's personal and it's pretty messed up to say to a friend. Whatever though because I'm not going to worry about that, I just hope you think about your words and realize what you said.

Finally. Do yourself a favor and youtube some smash videos of pros where you can hear the players audio. Do you EVER hear frustration or anger? They're usually laughing and giving eachother props when they do good ****. But sadly you don't hear much of that in our crew. I will link some sample vids so you can hear it if you like.

Yeah, me getting 2 stocked is the best I've ever played. I don't get frustrated when I play people better than me. I played Drew Bear for hours when he wrecked me with Falco and had lots of fun. I have fun every time I play except against you, and I have apologized again and again and explained that I don't know why I get kinda upset when I play you.
However, I have played Cookie, StrongButt, DarkAtma, Siegfried, Roman, and a bunch of other players that are exponentially better than me and I at no time got angry at all, so it isn't fair to say that I get angry a lot when it is just you who I get frustrated against.

But I want you to understand that NOBODY is leaving you out. I work Saturdays and Sundays now. You are in high school. I'm expected to organize each and every smashfest and provide transportation to everybody without a penny of gas money. Sometimes I'll just get Terrence. You aren't expect to organize smashfests. They don't need organization. It isn't like a bunch of people are playing. It is just you, me, and Terrence, and rarely another person. and 1) I don't get that upset. I every once in a while get frustrated while playing specifically you when you absolutely wreck me. When I'm playing Terrence it is fine, but the way it works out is that I play you 400 times in a row until Terrence gets lucky enough to beat you. It is no wonder that I get a little frustrated playing a player who I play all the time, who knows exactly how I tech every time, and who I generally get frustrated with and lose badly consistently to. 2) No I don't. I've emphasized before that I go to bed at 2-3 in the morning when I'm on my own and that I just can't get a ride in the mornings. 3) You drive through a college town every time you pick up Terrence, and I live 3 minutes away from Terrence. Plus, I told you that I would get a ride from my Grandpa a week ago and you still played without me inbetween.

Uh, nope. You guys were a lot better than when I played you last. Regardless of if you feel better, you were much better. I got 3-4 stocked a bunch and I was trying my hardest.

Whatever though because I'm not going to worry about that, I just hope you think about your words and realize what you said.

By "If I move to another region, I will start playing again," I am saying that in the future, I will probably go back to Virginia for a while and I will most definitely play there. There is no reason why I would go or play anywhere else. You guys aren't bad. Michael, you were in a combo video without being aware of it. Terrence is as good as you now from playing you so much. You underestimate how good you are just because of isolated incidents, like losing to Terrence a few times here or there, or losing to Roman, who you've preached is better than you even though you're better than him for sure. This isn't even about getting wrecked Michael, it is about me realizing that the scene is dead. I played in Virginia and the scene was active as **** and I was consistently 4 stocked by every player in the region, and I never got angry. It is just you, and I have emphasized that it isn't personal and that I feel bad that I get angry while playing you, but I can't help it. Don't take it out of context. I'm saying that if I go back to Virginia, I will probably play again. I just don't see myself getting any better here, so don't take it personally.

OH MY GOD. Every time you do a combo I laugh and tell you that it was amazing. You cannot tell me that I don't add enthusiasm to all of the matches that you play, because I compliment you on every combo and inbetween stocks because I am sick of you saying that you're bad.
And to Terrence, when we first started playing I would get kinda mad when you gimped me, but undeniably I have definitely gotten rid of that habit, and I laugh when we play now.

Responses in Bold.
Also, I should just say that I actually am quitting. I'm done trying to get better here. This environment has brought me as far as it can in smash. I might go to Pathways every once in a while, but for the most part, I'm done entering. The region is dead, anyways. Strong Bad is gone so no more Rolla. Traveling is pretty much done because Roman was the one who drove us to Rolla, anyways, and he is done traveling anywhere. He isn't going to try and get better anyways.
