I've been thinking lately: 'Are Nintendo using SSBB for marketing?'

First off, Nintendo fans already know about most of Nintendo's history so why would Sakurai add the game's series it belongs to as well as already well known information? Example: 'Sonic is the worlds fastest hedgehog.' Even my mother knows that! Could Nintendo be just advertising the series to anyone who takes an interest in a certain character or item?

Secondly, that list of first party games on Nintendo systems and the virtual console demos. It seems to me does where blatant attempts of advertising Nintendo's best games, especially the ones on the virtual console.

Furthermore, the Pokémon company's selected representatives looks like a marketing attempt rather than seeing who could and something unique to the game, like Sakurai said himself. Lucario, obviously the 4th gen representative being one of the first next gen pokémon to be revealed. When did he get stronger the more damage he had? When was Pikachu so big? Obviously they were chosen by popularity: Pikachu, Lucairo and Jigglypuff. PT is alright though.

Nintendo knew alot of people where going to buy the game. Must of them gamers. Now it dawns on me Sakuria (Spelling ): ) knew Gamers would hate tipping and that's why he never mentioned it in the Dojo. Tripping would have serviced as a deterrent from buying this game. But instead built up the hype. Nintendo wanted this game in as many homes as possible. Nintendo has sold a vast amout of Wii's so why not put 'a little' advertisement into a game that will also sell vast amounts? They know that a lot of gamers live with none gamers and casuals so they thought 'Why not advertise to them as well!'.

Again with the new series being represented like Wario ware but wait, a new Wario game is coming out, what a coincidence! Pikmin, wait Pikmin 3? Hmm... I wouldn't be shocked to find out that a new kid icarus game was in the works right now...

Design choices also bother me, Falco and Fox looked bada**ed in Melee but in Brawl...Plus does Zero suit Samus equal fan service? Bothersome indeed.

Basically I'm losing faith in Nintendo, thinking Money>fans and this:

SSB fan: Why is there tripping in Brawl?

Nintendo: Screw the gamers! (Crushes a Melee disk in their right hand) That life kid!

Too long; didn't read? Go back and read the whole thing.

So what do you think?

Sorry about the spelling, Wii browser... :/

I would say post this in the GBD since it's Brawl related but you know...

And yes, part of Brawl is about marketing. Lucario was in to promote 4th gen pokemon.
yet Jiggs is still in somehow....
Snake could somewhat be used for marketing since MGS4 came out after Brawl.

The same happened with Roy in Melee. He was in the promote Fire Emblem 6. (Is that the right number?)

Why would they advertise sonic?

Anyway, I hate that sakurai didn't tell us about tripping on the dojo. There are a lot of useless junk he told us sometimes but he doesn't bother telling us about something like tripping. He even repeated MK's special moves >_>

Rotflmao at Overload's picture because it's so true.

Also may I make a request for this thread to be moved to the general boards? It's more smash related then gaming in general. Thank you for the consideration.

Corporations always think Money is of the highest importance. From > than creativity (Nintendo hasn't crossed that line), to > than dignity (...), to > than the fans, it's always a case of money over something else. Just look at movies and television nowadays. Most of the ideas you see are half *****, and the portrayals cheap ways to appeal to someone they don't appeal to. The ones that aren't are too few.

Nintendo's lucky, it's main source of ideas are people who pride Creativity > Money to an extent. The best of things nowadays seem to be made by individual people or groups of people, who work together to develop their own ideas, and then think about the money. People like that are known for continuing to have ideas even after they get filthy f'ing rich or get associated with a filthy f'ing rich company.

Now, back to those friggin hilarious pics.

There's nothing wrong with marketing if the product doesn't suffer from it.
Creativity alone doesn't buy Ferrari's.

Well, I'm not talking about cars, am I?

What you said is the gist my statement. Corporations today tend to let their creative product suffer due to desire to make money, but that doesn't mean many companies know how to keep the balance.

I agree with the first post- Lucario was so advertisement... He was in because he is one of the most popular 4th Gen Pokemon, when Nintendo could have used a Pokemon that would have added something new, something different. (Darkrai, anyone?)

Pit= Advertisement for the game I think will be on the way- Kid Icarus.
Olimar=Advertisement for Pikmin 3.

I think it worked because I'm gonna go reserve it when I get a chance XD

Anyway, it's always been about the money. Obviously Nintendo wants to appeal to their fans, but they want to make money in the process. Unfortunately for them you have to spend money to make money, otherwise they would pay their workers with Yoshi Eggs and coins.

Not really.

Fighting over saying the same exact thing seems kind of counter-intuitive... Lets all just ease up... or something.

But this is starting to seem like they made an advertisement into a game and not the other way round. \:

Well, of course they must have put something in! I got the fact the very moment they showed Masterpieces on the dojo. Those are just big, fat, juicy ads.

Doesn't Sakurai say something rather strange at the end of that update? I can't remember at all what it was, but it made me think that he was just showing off some buyables from the VC.

Trophies, however, are not ads in my opinion. At least, the 400 I have, do not contain ad-like stuffs in 'em.

"f you take a liking to one of the trial versions, you can always buy the full game through the Shop Channel! You might even find a couple titles that divert your attention from Brawl for a while."

This has to be said:

Sakurai: Screw the fans, I have money (laughs)

Over used? Yes. The truth? Maybe... :/

I find Fox's and Falco's look in brawl pretty freaken awesome. Plus they have scouters. <_<

Plus does Zero suit Samus equal fan service? Bothersome indeed.
Zero Suit Samus is only fan service because that's how she actually looks in the games.

You know those rewards you get in the Metroid games? They give out pictures of Samus out of her suit. This is one of them, I believe from Metroid Fusion: http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u283/imvuuserofcrackofdoom/Samus.jpg

It's only natural that she'd be fan service in Brawl because that's what people like to be rewarded with in the end (Granted, they actually made her bust size bigger for Brawl). ALOT of people like Samus out of her suit. (It's a sad world)

I know it's quite obvious from her design that she was put in with one thing in mind. Like her opening shot at E3 2006 and SSE. Her taunts (suggestive?) and body design (bust wtf). Fare enough she is represented well (crawl through tunnels, gun ect) but Nintendo honestly must have known something like this would happen :/
