I agree with this sentiment. That is actually what my sister and I discussed quite a few months ago when we were already anticipating how the updates would work. It is much more favorable to be surprised in the end. I feel like that is a part of why Melee is one of my favorite games ever. I didn't follow any of the pre-release hype, so the entire game was a fresh experience. Brawl was the opposite. I didn't like it very much initially and it never retained the longevity that Melee did. I think it is because I spoiled mostly everything. The few surprises were memorable though. The Brawl hype train was the equivalent of someone with ADD on a cocaine trip... We were getting something new and exciting with almost every other reveal the Dojo gave us. This lasted all the way until the game was actually released and many were left disappointed with the final product thanks to unrealistic expectations.
Smash 4 seems to be taking the opposite approach; slow and steady. I think this will actually be for the better. I'd much rather have a little pre-release hype and be pleasantly surprised than be totally hyped and then left disappointed like with Brawl.
personally I like to know what I am buying, if ridley is not in I need time to get over it and not find out and be disappointing on day 1
To be fair the characters make the game for most people. The original tagline was "Duke it out with your favourite Nintendo characters" after all, so it's reasonable for people to want to play as their favourite Nintendo characters.I really don't understand people like you... Will Ridley being in or not REALLY effect your enjoyment of this game?
Maybe it's my lack of true character loyalty that allows me to be comfortable with the idea of maining someone new... I just pick a character that's fun to play as and stick with them.
Yeah exactly. The point is that every day this game takes at least 15 minutes for the update, so it's impossible to just not get hyped. Almost every day is one of the first things I start to think about. They should stop updates altogether imho. The Brawl hype train was the equivalent of someone with ADD on a cocaine trip... Back in my day, waiting for a new game meant just going about my life and doing other things until the next new game or a sequel just happened to be out in stores or show up in a commercial.Back in my day we waiting for games uphill both ways with no constant information and we liked it
Yeah, back in the day when waiting for Melee pretty much meant praying that Nintendo Power would make some mention of it in their next issue. Maybe that's another reason why the wait for Brawl was both exciting and agonizing, it was the first game Nintendo really had an online advertising campaign for.Back in my day, waiting for a new game meant just going about my life and doing other things until the next new game or a sequel just happened to be out in stores or show up in a commercial.
And I most definitely liked it. Back then.
But that was before I discovered the internet. ¦D
It's interesting, I feel exactly the sameHmm oddly enough it's not tormenting or even losing interest as such as I have enough other things going on that I'm not clamering for it like I did during Brawls development cycle. Probably just a sign of me starting to get older or just that I simply don't get upset about these kind of things much anymore. Either or.

A game being "competitive" is entirely up to the fanbase. What if PM happens to be a better game competitively than SSB4...?
Does he really expect us to believe that someone who comes into the official board of a specific videogame isn't really interested in that videogame?theres always this guy...
Fixed.PM also primarily panders the the competitive crowd
I believe it.Does he really expect us to believe that someone who comes into the official board of a specific videogame isn't really interested in that videogame?
Who's complaining about Brawl? I like Brawl a lot more than Melee. How can you lose hype for a god damn smash bros game?
Everyone complaining about brawl were just pissed it wasn't a melee clone.
There are plenty of people out there that love all 3 games so it's a ***** move to try and take that enjoyment away from them just because you didn't like brawl
I am beyond hyped for game
And I don't need new information every day to keep me hyped. A smash bros game is coming out, that's all the hype I need
Everyone stating that they need to release new information with every screenshot are greedy. What other game developer releases daily content for a game that is a year away?
"Everyone who thinks differently than me is stupid!"How can you lose hype for a god damn smash bros game?

Don't forget that Project M 3.0 and other Brawl mods can keep us entertained. Not at all. Updates come daily with enough ambiguity to speculate and veteran updates come monthly. Of course, more info and newcomers would be awesome but I'm ok with this speed. Considering the first Dojo remained unchanged for an entire year before Sakurai started to update, we are pretty lucky. Plus, this game will be out in or less than a year. My hype can last that long.
We've constantly been getting new information in December do I don't know what you're complaining about."Everyone who thinks differently than me is stupid!"
Sorry, but that's about all that I got from this post. ¦D
How are we losing hype for a Smash Bros. game? The answer is pretty damn obvious and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out.
There hasn't been anything interesting enough for some of us with these rather lame daily pictures. Some of you are content with them and that's okay. Some of us are just bored by them and see them as a waste of time when it isn't anything significant or even mildly interesting.
Not all of us are blind fanboys that are just going to play any Smash game and are automatically hyped. If you are, then more power to you. ¦3
Different strokes for different folks, you know?
"Constantly" would imply that we've gotten new information every day. This is false. We've constantly been getting new information in December do I don't know what you're complaining about.
We know enough about this game to want to buy it. The daily pictures are a luxury that no other developer does for their game. It's really selfish to complain about a favour you get.
Smash is still a ways so don't expect any new footage until at least next year. They still have tropical freeze and mario kart to promote too so just get some patience
well aren't you just a ray of sunshineNo

Yea it's that bizarre nature that comes with a devoted fanbase. Fans praise something the most but also complains about it constantly. So goes the internet. Most Games: No new information for months at a time. Occasional chatter like "Oh, I want that, it looks good."
Smash: Daily pictures with little reveals at least once per week. Several dedicated forums willing to discuss and hype up the game.
And yet people complain about how they lose interest for Smash.
