2nd - Kinzer (Sonic/Jigglypuff)
December 22nd edit: As of now, the link is incorrect in how it says it is the 24th weekly. It really is the 26th Gameworld weekly. That should resolve itself within due time.
Yes that's right, you're reading it correctly; I used Jigglypuff seriously in my amateur bracket. I'll explain when I get to it. I still hold true to my hedgehog brethren where it fully counts though. Now whenever Tails comes in here and posts his perspective, he will. I doubt he remembers where he placed and who exactly he played though, I know I don't without having a bracket to look at.
Let's see. I got scared when I first came to the venue. They had some sign that had "liquidating." I thought that the place was going to go out of business, which would mean no more tourney for me. D: Luckily though it's just a sale to get some merchandise out of their building. Christmas is a good time to get people to shop... I'm actually going to buy some stuff if they're having a sale. Those involve buying two working Dreamcast controllers and another Sonic scroll to put up on my wall, maybe two. I think that's it, I don't really care about getting any games since most suck, or aren't on a Wii console.
Anyway, let's see. It started off normally, expect for almost everybody being out of state for R3. I didn't expect there to be much, but it turns out we had a normal amount of entrants. Of course if nobody went OoS that number would've been bigger, but that's fine. Regardless of everybody OoS, the competition was still just as fierce.
...Okay maybe not. You know how I am, always downplaying myself, but it's true. I am surprised I got 5th until I AIMed one of the TOs and got her to tell me how many entrants there were, and were exactly I placed. I knew I got 2nd in amateurs by the end of the day, bu seriously? 5th out of 17? Sheyeah boi!
Anyway, as far as I can remember, I played a helluva lot of different people, and a helluva lot of them I played constantly because of the lack of sufficient entrants. V_V
I did worse against Trendsetter (MK) this time around than usual. I'm disappointed in that, and I wish I knew why I did worse, and still getting nowhere close to beating him, but I don't know...
But again, This wasn't a complete failure. I defeated Hino, who for the longest time has been taking me out everytime we've met since he's gotten better. I wasn't going to have anymore of that, I want to get somewhere, and somewhere I got! This is in the normal bracket, it's a different story in amateurs, which again I'll get to when it comes around.
I am embarrassed to say I lost to a Ganon. If it means anything, I won one match, and this Ganon is a good friend of Tails', so he was more conditioned to playing Sonic than I was playing against Ganon. This guy also actually mains Ganon, no beating around the bush with Kirby/ Donkey Kong/ Pit/ MK like Trendsetter does (although his Kirby and MK are legit (so is his Ganon but meh...), and DK/ Pit are this Ganon's legit secondaries(not main/s!)), so it was a very awkward battle for being inexperienced against a real Ganon's potential. Now please don't give me too much crap about this, it's not a 100:0 matchup for Ganon, so it is possible a top Sonic can still lose to a top of the metagame Ganon. At least when I spoke to Tails, he says that in total, he has a positive record against this guys' Ganon, including friendlies/seriouslies/etc. Tails is already displaying he's better at me in one field, even if it's not saying much because it is, again, Ganondorf; but still. Im' still working on perfecting my Sonic as you can see, and this will be motivation for me to get better... -_-
I defeated a couple of people who are new to Vegasmash's roster. Like I said, without looking at the bracket, I can't tell exactly who or in what order, or even what time of occurrence, but I know I won a couple of sets. Well obviously I did, again, have you seen my amazing 5th place?!
Anyway, fast-forwarding, and I promise you I can tell you more, here were I am finally playing Amateurs. I fight Hino again very early in the bracket, and I was kind of tired from having already defeating him once in a short time span, plus Too many things went wrong for me to beat him again. I know I have it in me to defeat him though, I just didn't feel like making the same effort again.
And then I have to play this Lucario player. Compared to who I have played previously, he's the worst of the pack. He's a decent player, and still a worthy Lucario player, so I had I try, or I would lose. I'm sure you all understand how one-sided this matchup is, so I still had to give it so "umpfh" if I wanted to win.
Funny thing here. This is where I counterpicked Jigglypuff. I don't know why, but somebody in the crowd requested I went Jigglypuff, and he be my "trainer" of sorts. Although I scoffed at the "trainer" offer, it seems he knew that I played some kind of a Jigglypuff when I am not using Sonic, and seeing as how I was up one match (I won the first) and how I play a decent Jigglypuff as is, I thought "why not?"
I am surprised I won that match, to be honest. Since Jigglypuff is by no means tourney viable, I expected to lose and was fully prepared to play out a 3rd match (going back to Sonic of course!). Nevermind Jigglypuff's viability in general, I am almost certain that because of Jigglypuff's terrible range, light weight, and pitiful attacks that the Jigglypuff:Lucario matchup is almost as bad, if not worse than the Sonic:Lucario Matchup. At least when I'm Sonic, I have the luxury of speed and mindgames to compensate where I fall short, but jesus; this was setting up a bigger handicap. Regardless, I tried my best to play a fine Jigglypuff, and I think well in that department, no matter how limited the character is. Of course the guy who requested I go Jigglypuff was jokingly giving me "commands" and I just went along with some of them. Even If I was Jigglypuff, I still played to win and work with what I have, so of course I had to ignore some of those commands... he just didn't have the badges.
And since we were playing on Pokemon Stadium, transformations sometimes got in the way, so some planking went on... but since I had the lead, the planking was done on my part. Thank god nobody decided to, or could call me out on stalling, because up until the last 5 seconds of the match, the Lucario player could've went after me. In the end, he tried to attack me in those 5 seconds but he failed, and fell to his doom on the last second, and Nirvana was reached. Some people thought I was joking around when I was playing Jigglypuff, when that was only half the story. I swear to God I tried to play Jigglypuff to her fullest capabilities, and my fullest potential, and luckily enough it won the set with two matches. It's not my fault Jigglypuff has bad range on everything, including her kill moves, so I have to try to play a Sonic style with Jigglypuff!
I guess as long as it worked out in the end, we can count me playing Amateur bracket and getting 2nd palce with Sonic/Jigglypuff, right?
Let's see. After that happened, I lost my over the pants anal virginity. V_V Apparently somebody was so happy I won with Jigglypuff they decided to **** me
up the butt Charizard. If not for how close I came to losing, That alone will be a remainder of why I must continue to use Sonic, and Sonic only. Sorry Jigglypuff mains, I will salute you for playing her, but as for me, I will use Sonic, who is everything Jigglypuff is and then some.
I played a R.O.B. player next. First thing I did once the first match started was
Down-Taunt to avoid the obvious Laser that would come my way. (This is a URL Link in-case you can't see it in this big ol' wall 'o text) The R.O.B. player asked "...Did you just taunt to avoid my laser?!" I say " Hell yeah!" I bet anybody watching was laughing in their head. Silly R.O.B. players, they all do the same things, but I guess that's what you get when you have a character who only has a few good traits, of course it all gets predictable, just like Game & Watch. I won the set, but not before I ended it all in style. We were on Rainbow Cruise, and my last stock had just been taken while he was at 43% or so. He were on the part where it went from platforms to the boat, so when I was ready to get off from the recovery platform, the arrows indicating "hurry! Move this way!" were blinking. You can bet that I took advantage of this frantic moment to grab R.O.B., pummel once, U-Throw, and try to kill him. But since he didn't have enough damage, and the stage wasn't low enough, that didn't kill him. I followed-up with an U-Air to finish the job, and surely this time while R.O.B. was going "whurrrrrrrrr" in the background, there was a hedgehog on the bow of the ship taunting "You're too slow~!"
Once that was done I played Xero. I'm sure I've all told you how he plays LOLimar. Even though I have a positive record against him, things get very Gay, so I still have to **** or get *****. Too bad this was loser's finals, because I beat him 2-0 until he reminded me "you still need to win one more." and in my head I'm going "@#$% are you kidding me?! Can't we just get this over with already-heey?!? DX" Somehow he made it to 2-2 until I decide to go to Picto and get my **** on. Delfino didn't work like I wanted to, not enough water, and he banned Japes... Funny thing, he bans Japes against everybody... I think it was because of me. XD Oh well, I won, so that's what matters, but seriously, I was running out of ideas on what to do when I had to counterpick. Remember I can't go to Japes, and just about every other stage is neutral or gone since I already won on some of the stages we played on (Dave's Stupid Rule). I certainly didn't want to go to CPs
HE went to and risk having him more comfortable on a stage than me, so yeah. I guess since Pictochat is rarely picked here in Vegas, and hardly anybody has enoguh practice with it... yeah... plus the iSDR certainly helped against the LOLimar spam. Just a warning to all of you, if Luigi's Mansion and Corneria are banned in your area, you may want to consider banning/striking Castle Siege (assuming CS is a neutral and you go by the striking selection). The first transformation has angles that work in Olimar's favor, and the 2nd has walk-offs where you can get killed very early if you're not careful. I was in the lead so thankfully I could run away during this time, but so much time could've been lost because Olimar is just so gay.
Enough of that, I'm finally in Amateur GFs, and I had to play Hino since he made it to GFs from the winner's side. It was getting late, I would have to win two sets against him to become the champion, and I was tired from having to play Twice before, so I just said "@#$% it" and forfeited. I did convince him to play a couple of seriouslies with me though, and I didn't offer to split because we play to win here in Vegas, so F*** yeah Seaking!
As for Dubz, me and Tails did fine. We still lost because it wasn't enough, but we did better than usual. I'm hoping we can practice some more with this and maybe in the future get somewhere.
As I've said earlier, I can't speak from Tails' perspective, but I've been training him. He's still making a couple of mistakes here and there, and his tourney-placings don't reflect his getting better, but he is improving. Someday though, every
Hedgehdog has their day...
And D'oh, before I forget, I remember playing against Victor, the TO of Vegas. He's gotten better, I believe I legit lost one match. I won, but yeah, I might want to watch out. :X
I believe that is it... I'm sorry if this sounds really redundant, I had to play a lot of the same people many times, so don't blame me.
I still got far, no matter the challenge, so I'm very happy about that. Now if I can be this amazing when we actually have the Vegasmash pros like SK92, maybe I can make something more out of these stories.
No chance of any videos except the one match where I went Jigglypuff.
And Sonic boards, I'm sorry, but I'm gone to the Scourge side. I'll still see if I can go Super Sonic, but for now, the problem's chronic.
