Hello fellow Clouds!
I just came to introduce myself because I've made my choice to get Cloud this weekend but since their isn't a written guide on the guides section I just wanted to ask some questions on how Cloud's playstyle is:
1. What type of play does Cloud benefit more from? More defensive? more baiting?
2. Does he sometimes have trouble killing on certain MUs w/o limit? How heavily does he lean on it for kills?
3. Is it worth grabbing with Cloud even with his poor grab game?
4. What LB move is the best IYO (in your opinion)? Is FT even worth going for?

Those are all my noob questions so thanks in advance :)
1.) Generally defensive since he is a spacing character so you should abuse his long reach. If you're going to be aggressive then make sure you space everything well and know your autocancel windows on your aerials. For the most part, punish their approaches when you are charging Limit
2.) He requires a good read to get kills whether you have Limit or not which shouldn't be too hard because you know they are scared of your Limit move. Keeping this in mind you can predict what options they want to do to get away or keep you away from them
3.) Yes, grab a lot with Cloud. People will want to stay in shield against him so your grabs give you free stage control due to how far they go when they are thrown. DThrow at low percents is good for free damage because it can be followed up with Cross Slash and FTilt from 0-30%. 31-60% you can DThrow into running Nair/Uair. It true combos if you have Limit due to increased run speed
4.) Finishing Touch is only for hard reads/free punishes/you got the weak hit of Dair and you autocanceled it and you can true combo them in the air/tech chases/air dodge reads. I go for Limit Cross Slash majority of the time and sometimes Limit Up as an OoS option when they are at around 120% or so

Too add to what Chalice said Cloud's anti-air options combined with his quick ground speed/D-Tilt/Dash Attack would make him a good counter pick for characters like ZSS. Though it's recommended to play a more patient/ Defensive Cloud, but me personally I like to play mind games in the sense that I charge my limit and punish my opponents approach. Then while in Limit I try to save it for recovering and just try to build up damage ( Cloud's Up tilt strings are so good ), but the LB move I use the most is Cross Slash to me is more useful and safe plus it's stupid fast and correct me if i'm wrong has little to no end lag.

I originally had no intention on downloading anything from the PlayStation Store but then I decided I wouldn't want to put that free discount code that came with my PS4 go to waste so I decided to redeem it. Y'all can guess which game I download it from the shop at a discount but y'all only get one guess.

I wouldn't mind going for the moderator role here but I already have a busy lifestyle so it wouldn't work out for me.

I think you'd have to be a bit more, erm, exemplary to qualify as a mod.

♥
Tbh, I'd take Neko modding over a lot of people around here, including you. At least he can talk shop/knows a lot about Smash in general, and has the credentials to do so.

So let's not call people out like this, yeah?

Not calling anyone out, bro, chill.
But when auto-censor has to kick in eight times someone posts, it kinda hurts their stance as a mod.

That's because I'm being casual.

But numerous times I've shown professionalism when required by my position.

In the military and in the PMDT.

If I was given the position, you'd see an immediate change in my posts to reflect my position, unless I explictly state in the header of my post that I'm acting as a person and to disregard my position for the duration of my post.

You just dont see it now because there's no need for it. :V

One of the things the military teaches you is how to switch from "yo what's up *****" to "Good evening, Master Chief. Reporting as called." in a hot second.

That being said; the color of someone's language shouldn't represent their ability to do their job. If you let something as small as that alter your stance on whether than can do something as simple as moderating, then I'd feel that you're being too stringent. It's not a PR position, though you do have to carry yourself more than an average user.

Well said my friend. From someone who also holds a military background I can say vouch for him. One thing the military teaches you during training is the ability of self control which is control of one's emotions and behavior in the face of temptations and impulses. If we are capable of having a grown man yell at our faces and fight the urge to smack him or cover our noses due to his terrible breath, then I doubt moderating a forum will be so difficult....

Edit: for the record I myself applied for mod as well :p

Right. And that's the point I'm essentially trying to make. I'm not judging anyone's character, as I think you're a great guy and a real asset to this forum.

Fair enough then.

That aside, we're apparently having a Cloud v Ike MU discussion on the Discord this Friday.

I'd suggest the regulars should get Discord set up so we can chat that **** out when the day comes.

Wish I could be there, but alas; I gotta work all day.
My two cents: we're the Captain Falcon to Ike's Ganondorf. We both want to punish the other's mistakes, but he punishes so much harder.

To add to that For those Curious about the Discord group go to the Cloud Discord Thread that I made. There you will find info and a link to join the Group and join the discussion starting Friday, Hope to see some of you there!....

Discord is usable as a web page, PC application, and mobile application so it's not impossible for anyone to keep an eye on the discussion at the very least.

You are aware that it's not within a normal user's jurisdiction to decide who should be a moderator, right? That's a staff-only ordeal.

omg I can almost consistently Shield Drop/Limit Charge Shield Drop and do an Uair as I'm falling through the platform

Now I just gotta get used to it during actual matches. What's hard is staying calm and making sure my fingers aren't twitchy and antsy due to the timing you have to do on the analog stick

Hey, guys I'm sorry if this isn't the place for it, but I just wanted to let you know that Square is doing a pretty good sale on their website right now.
Also, if anyone wants a recruitment into FFXIV (free stuff!), please pm me.

I have to learn this trick too. I learned it could be done when my friend who mains robin showed me it. (It works with robins thunder charge, and then he went and tried it with cloud/was pulling it off)

Anyone else having trouble in some MUs? I picked up Lucina to deal with chars like Mario, Falcon, etc, as well as a 50/50 for sheik. Falcon feels really difficult for cloud.

Falcon is even because we combo and juggle him hard. We outrange him and can gimp him with Nair

He can edgeguard us really well and he is quick enough to keep up with Cloud in the neutral.

He's limited to one playstyle, however, so you know he is going to go for grabs and baits for the grab so gotta read that a Falcon player is baitng you for a grab. Good landings are important or else we'll get grabbed so learn to auto cancel your Dair

I think Cloud DESTROYS Mario. Use lots of ftilts to space him, and the only place Mario has an advantage imo is when you're offstage. Watch for fludd.

Yeah, It could just be mu inexperience. My Lucina bodies our local Falcons, etc but my Cloud struggles. Falcon is just difficult cause of how insanely quick and strong he is. He also gimps us pretty hard. I mean I dont think its THAT bad, but its a pretty scary mu for me atm with cloud.

I believe that Dr. Mario vs. Cloud is actually surprisingly even. Doc's emphasis on ground game and his amazing frame data may not lead to as many combos as Mario has, but he has the better and earlier kill confirm off of DThrow. And if Cloud has Limit Break, you fall faster and you're going to get combo'd into Doc's FAir easier too. Otherwise, Doc's ground game is sick with BAir, UAir strings at low percents leading into regrabs, Up B having amazing frame data and reach that can be used in shoryuken-esque situations. Also not a lot of people know this, but Doc's DAir can actually semi spike too, and it gimps Cloud pretty well when done right. Doc's emphasis on power combined with his amazing frame data compensates for his difficult recovery in the Cloud match-up IMO.

Theres actually a pretty sick doc in my area. I agree with this completely. Usually I just go Lucina against him. Doc kills a ton earlier than Mario and basically everything else you said lmao. But yes I feel Doc is a bigger threat than Plumber mario
