https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/45xqo6/voids_prediction_for_the_two_best_dlc_characters/

So, I've found this reddit post concerning VoiD's thoughts on who the best DLC character is. In this post, he talks about the future of Ryu and Corrin, as well as Cloud. With Cloud, he believes that eventually people will know how to gimp him more consistently, as well as finding a way to work around his Limit Charge. It appears that he believes waiting for Cloud to charge limit is the best way to counter his limit.

What are all your thoughts on this? I'm especially asking all of the more experienced players here; Keep in mind, I actually don't know much about VoiD aside from the fact that he's a really good player. I think he mains Shiek? I'm also a fledgling when it comes to competitive play, hence why I'm asking you guys such a question. I've been thinking about using Cloud seriously, so I want to know whether he will continue being viable or not. c:

Cloud will definitely continue to be viable. The only three characters that I see really shutting Cloud out super hard offstage are the likes of Sheik, Pikachu and maybe Villager. Not enough to render him unviable though. It could get to the point that fighting Sheik = RIP (Mr. R vs. Komorikiri showed us that first hand. it was brutal), which is also the reason why I use Sonic for that match-up because that match is practically even (55:45 in Sheik's favour). Cloud has good neutral. But Sheik has broken neutral, so that ultimately comes down to who does it better, and where does that land Cloud? Offstage ready to be needle'd, Bouncing Fish'd, FAir'd, the list goes on to push Cloud away.

But as people continue to gimp Cloud, Cloud players are going to find ways around that. To be honest? We already have. Climhazzard from above instead of coming from below, air dodge into Up B for added recovery, having Limit on hand as often as possible or close to full so that when we're in a bad spot, we'll almost always make it back because Limit Climhazzard is one of the best recoveries in the game. Let's not forget that we have ridiculously good horizontal magnet hands that allow us to grab the ledge in normal mode too even though we should miss outright.

Ryu is better (it's kinda funny seeing someone like him who should be such a grounded character have such amazing recovery options), but I would say that it'll likely be this,

1.) Ryu
2.) Bayonetta
3.) Cloud
4.) Corrin
5.) Roy
6.) Lucas
7.) Mewtwo

If I had to rank the DLC characters, that is.

I MIGHT be, but I haven't played the others to prove this. I know @Tubular TTTTTsd and @XenoBrawler610 are a couple of noteworthy ones.
I'm honestly flattered to be considered a good Cloud! Thank you! :D I'm currently working on improving with my play with him.

There's a small part of me that wishes that I could try my hand at a tournament with Cloud, but I lack the confidence.

Personally, I think Cloud will continue to be viable for everything Kuraudo Kuraudo mentioned. I think that Cloud will be here to stay in the long-run.

One day I hope to be known as a good Cloud lol. I just don't have the time to invest into hardcore training at the moment.

Cloud might start to gimped more often in singles, but I think Cloud will continue to excel in doubles. He seems to be a monster in that game type.

I've been playing a lot of VII as of late. SOLDIER Cloud is just too awesome not to play as for now. I'll keep using Advent Children at times for sure though.

After playing FFVII, I really wish Cloud's alts were based off of other party members, kinda like Shulk's. A Tifa color scheme would've looked really cool, especially on his AC alt (white jackets are cool).

And Not just the Trophies

It's hurts to know that there are only TWO music tracks from FINAL FANTASY

For me, It is Smash 4s DLC WORST SIN

Even though i do not play any games from the franchise, The Music there is Real Good

I'm also surprised about a lack of Barret,Tifa, and Sephiroth Costumes.

Edit:Mii Costumes

Not to mention those two tracks are just straight rips from the original game. We didn't even get at least one remix.

My salt levels tend to elevate when I think of how they didn't add in "Birth of a God" into the Midgar stage

In terms of trophies, the following could've been possible to go with the Cloud DLC...
  • Sephiroth
  • Tifa Lockhart
  • Aerith Gainsborough
  • Chocobo
  • Moogle
  • Cactuar
  • Bahamut ZERO

I'm a little salty about that too. I kinda wish that someone would ask Sakurai why we only got Cloud, his stage and the original battle/boss themes. Bayonetta is basically a Nintendo character now, so it's no wonder she got so much content music/trophies wise.

But honestly? Yeah, I was expecting Sephiroth & Aerith/Bahamut ZERO for trophies, along with a couple more songs at least.

Oh well! There's a hack for Smash Wii U that lets you inject unlimited amounts of songs into a stage, names and all. The person who made it doesn't plan to release it yet until we're through with all the patches for Smash 4. I don't trust the team not to do one or two more balance/maintenance patches so we could be waiting a while, but I personally can't wait to crack it open and add more content to the game.

Not enough trophies and songs for the stage was a rather huge letdown. The Mii outfits such as the Chocobo one ain't good enough.

I'm disappointed by the lack of Final Fantasy content in Smash.

Only three trophies? We don't even get trophies of model rips from games like Dissidia or even rips from Advent Children? Not even a Chocobo or Moogle trophy?
Only two songs on Midgar and no remixes? Final Fantasy has a lot of amazing music, both music in just VII and entries like VI and VIII for example. I find it a missed opportunity to remix even a song from FF7... still, it's a shame we didn't get songs like Bombing Mission, Birth of a God, J-E-N-O-V-A, Crazy Motorcycle Chase, and, of course, One Winged Angel.

I guess it had to do with Square and with them being strict, but I can't help for more. If Cloud gets in the next game or we get another Final Fantasy character in the next game, I hope that the series gets more.

Concerning about getting gimped while playing Cloud:

- Uair as soon as you double jump
- Fair at the ledge as soon as you double jump. Should out range their ledge guard options if they are sitting there
- Airdodge as soon as you double jump
- Early double jump (with airdodge/Nair/Uair) to recover high. Don't forget that Uair covers your front side too before the upward hitbox
- Blade Beam/Cross Slash air stall as you near back toward the stage
- Don't be right near the stage what you Up B: We have magnet hands so sometimes do it from farther away and you'll be surprised when you actually make it. This is the best way to avoid getting Dtilt/Smash attacked at the ledge
- Master grabbing the ledge from the diagonal parts of tournament stages with the very apex of Up B. I spend a good 10 minutes each day doing this. For example, the timing for Up B on Smashville is as soon as Cloud reaches the bottom of the screen
- Master recovering with the apex of Up B in general
- Save Limit for when you are offstage. Only go for Limit punishes/kills if you are absolutely sure (Basically play like Komorikiri and not Mew2Kiing where he saves Limit a good portion of the time)
- Don't always recover low with Limit Up B. Sometimes use it early for the horizontal distance it gives and use the downward part to cover your landing onstage
- If playing against characters that have a counter and they try to use Counter on your Up B, recover under the ledge and reverse it so the hitbox faces away from them
- If you have Limit offstage but can recover without Limit Up B use Limit Blade Beam/Cross Slash to cover your approach back to the stage
- Not really a Cloud specific recovery option, but just read the opponent's edge guard option

And who said Cloud has only a few recovery options?

I basically agree with everything except Cross Slash being used as an air stall. It works, but it has practically no horizontal movement and halts your horizontal airspeed after that. I find Blade Beam pushes you forward a little bit more and works best from above/mid height offstage. I actually scouted back to Mew2King vs. Dabuz at Genesis 3 and if Mew2King had used Blade Beam to push himself forward those extra pixels, he woulda grabbed the ledge and made it back the stock he lost.

You air stall with Cross Slash when you have them thinking your gonna throw an aerial and/or you know they are going to use an attack so you stall in the air with Cross Slash just out of reach.

It's an option when you are near the stage, not far away

Cloud vs Shiek doesnt seem all that bad tbh. I think its doable and not heavily in eithers favor. Cloud will remain viable. I see no reason why he wouldn't be. Hopefully Cloud continues to grow.

Ah. If you're using it upclose to the stage, that makes sense in that regard.

What I find cool is how much opinions have changed about Cloud and his recovery

Yeah, it's still poor compared to the other top tiers and upper high tiers but he actually has many ways to recover than you think

And all on a character with great frame data, neutral game, kill power, disjoints, mobility, and high priority + damage racking moves

I still remember when people were calling him Little Mac with a sword and that Mac's recovery was BETTER

C'mon, does Mac have magnet hands that let him grab the ledge from afar? No, because he has ****ing boxing gloves on

Dear Little Mac,

How do you grab ledges with boxing gloves on?

I don't get the Little Mac comparison here.

And how does Mac grab the ledge or someone with those boxing gloves on?

Mac shouldn't be able to grab items at all let alone the ledge speaking from experience it's impossible to easily hold anything with those gloves on unless they're covered in super glue that never dries

Little Mac is pretty much a goner if he's sent flying far enough, and this can't be resovled with his custom specials at all. Cloud at least has a chance of making a successful recovery if he's in Limit Break mode.

I sometimes B-Reverse my Blade Beam in the air if I am coming from high and have my double jump intact. Doing so allows me to do the following:

- If I know my opponent is about to come at me, it can help me dodge their attempt by reversing my momentum. If they used their double jump to come after me, they are likely retreating back to the stage, giving me time and space. If they haven't and we have not used our double jump, they have to now gauge whether its worth it to further extend and risk eating an aerial or missing (potentially placing them in a bad situation).

- Any subsequent attempts can be intercepted with Back Air. I like Back Air for certain angles because it has greater horizontal range than our other aerials. It also comes out 4 frames faster than Fair with 12 frames less end lag.

- If I need to Limit Break Climhazzard on the stage backward to avoid counters, I'm now in an easy position to do so.

This isn't a staple option but an effective mixup at times. Cloud's recovery is actually decent when you use ALL of your tools. They're subtle but every piece builds the puzzle.

With Midgar's music, the best I can guess is that Square Enix only allowed the bare minimum (character, stage, two track to comply with the 3DS' requirements). Every other 3rd party stage has several tracks, so that's the only reason I can think of for there being so few tracks. I can't fathom why they wouldn't allow more tracks though - Smash is an excellent advertising tool.

So, I've been thinking about getting Advent Children Complete on Blu Ray. Is the movie good, bad, or decent? I've only seen trailers and screenshots so I'm not entirely sure.

Advent Children is a beautiful and very well done movie.

And it will literally only make sense if you are familiar with FF7's storyline. If you don't, you can probably appreciate how well done the fight scenes are and how clean the movie is overall in presentation. If you haven't played FF7 for whatever reason, do that first and then watch the movie. If you already have, then cool. I really enjoyed it personally.

It's been way too long since I last played FF7 and I don't feel like ever going through the game again. I just remember the major plot points

So here I am waiting for the remake so I can see Cloud crossdress and-

I mean see the final boss fight in HD. Also no more cylinders for arms

Hello fellow Clouds!
I just came to introduce myself because I've made my choice to get Cloud this weekend but since their isn't a written guide on the guides section I just wanted to ask some questions on how Cloud's playstyle is:
1. What type of play does Cloud benefit more from? More defensive? more baiting?
2. Does he sometimes have trouble killing on certain MUs w/o limit? How heavily does he lean on it for kills?
3. Is it worth grabbing with Cloud even with his poor grab game?
4. What LB move is the best IYO (in your opinion)? Is FT even worth going for?

Those are all my noob questions so thanks in advance :)
