Young people don't know what they want. They want this, and then they want that, and then they what something else. They don't know whats best for them. Babies don't know what they want.
Who is "this guy?" Who is "he," and who is his made up "family?" Who are you talking about, with all those specifics? The OP already came in and agreed with us and said he is going to spend more time in school, iirc. You're just familiarizing your argument to get in edgewise. But you're already wrong.
People should be educated about the world around them for the betterment of THEIR OWN LIVES. Taking basic mathematics and science classes allows them to better understand their universe. It helps them around the house, fixing broken pipes or clogged utilities so they don't have to spend so much money calling a specialist. It helps them understand what makes everything that they use tick, so that if it breaks they can fix it. Math helps them balance their finances. English helps them communicate with other people. You could possibly learn these things without school, but you will learn them in school.
