Okiedokielookoutta... FOOORE!
I've seen all the match-ups between Marth and lots of others, and those are some great threads. However, Marth may be godly in one-on-one brawls, but in four player, due to his lack of super-powerful finishers, no projectiles, and limited endurance, Marth can easily be swept up by the 4-player chaos. You are not able to focus on every player at once. In Melee, though, this was not a problem because Marth had more strength. A good fsmash could send everyone flying if timed right. Now, due to his reduced strength and the brilliant new "decay" system (thanks a lot, Nintendo), Marth lacks the oomph he once had, and damage is too easy to build on marth.

Could someone maybe start giving pointers more oriented towards 4 player brawls? Maybe, like, explaining how to better get three enemies at once? Don't have to make a ton of threads about it, just apply the principles in future threads to better suit 4-player brawling. We know how to better ourselves against a meta-knight, but what about a MK, Snake, and another spammy MK? It could greatly improve tournament skill, as I know of no tournaments where there are less than four players in a match except for the final rounds.

Just a suggestion. Please don't go on and on if you don't see a need to do this. And SORRY if you already do or have done this, just doesn't seem it to me in help threads.

We discuss the competitive environment, specifically the standard competitive format, 4 man FFA is not the current competitive environment, there's not even a developed format that has some level of acceptance, unlike Items Standard Play (and for reference, we don't even discuss that).

Teams... thats a possibility (we already discuss it to a degree), but you'll probably never see FFAs being discussed here, and with good reason.

Because truthfully, FFA is based on diplomacy as much as actual fighting, nobody has found a way to make it work.

^What he said.

But if you want to do well in FFA:
1) Be diplomatic and sandbag a bit without getting hit so you don't appear to be a thread. Be conspicuous.
2) Don't blatantly avoid the fight. Blatantly avoiding the fight means people will feel the need to go after and gang up on you.
3) Fair camp and basically screw punishing and such. Let everyone else do the work and don't take damage. Punish every so often though to make it seem like you're doing something.
4) When someone gets eliminated, assist the person who will be the easiest to defeat in a diplomatic manner and take out the other person. Strive to eliminate that other person in a 2v1. Think of it almost like a team battle with team attack on and a partner who is bad at not attacking you. Hit your "team-mate" only when it's diplomatically alright for you to do so(i.e. they refuse to ally, it's too good of an opportunity to pass up, etc.)
5) 1v1, you know the drill.

But seriously, you'll only be ffa'ing in scrub matches or possibly friendlies where you're all bored and don't want to do team.

Steps to winning FFA:
1) ledge stall
2) camp
3) never rush into a battle
4) always complain about how other people have the most stock/least percentage (if you're in the lead then don't say anything)
5) never use smashes. your goal is 0 kills and still winning FFA to prove to everyone how absolutely stupid it is.

That means making them suicide their last life when it becomes 1v1

If it's timed, why are you playing these people?
If it's time play Ike.

Mmm didn't think about the 1v1.

When it comes to 1v1 just go all out and since you'll probably have stock advantage make sure you do stupid things and make them feel bad for losing to a poorly-spaced-shieldbreak-spamming marth.

^Is obsessed with the idea that you should humiliate them so they think ffa is stupid.

< Finds that scarily appealing

But seriously, don't ffa with Marth unless you have a good reason to. >>
Good reasons include just screwing around and having fun. But you're not going to learn much from it.

4 player is always fun once in a while. small levels are a lot of fun to throw out a counter, chances are high you will have a sucessful hit, especially because mostly your friends who are noobish play 4 v 4. But it's not too much trouble to do, I would just focus on a small distance around you. Marth was never hard for me to maneuver or to get overwhelmed in 4 v 4's.

...Fair camp. I agree with feardragon. lol.

Just Dolphin Slash ledgecamp until there's only one player left. Chances are, the players you are fighting can't hog the edge fast enough to punish. Fairs and Uairs from the edge will rebuff people getting near.

Well I have to do FFA's at school since 4 people always want to play, so I'm pretty knowlegdable about it.

1) Don't approach anybody, let somebody approach you. If somebody's intention was not to attack you and you attack them then that could mean trouble.
2) Dodge a lot lol. Seriously, avoid attacks and jump near other people fighting. They will try to avoid the others and get up getting it.
3) If you see somebody going for a kill, don't interfere just let them get it. Most of the time people play stock and as you know you can win a stock match with 0 kills lool. Interfering can cause you to get killed or allow the other to survive.
4) When there is only 3 people left, act like you are doing something but don't fight the others if they aren't going after you. Jump around doing SHFFFairs and Nairs so you won't look like you are chillin.
5) If you are getting double teamed, then good luck to you. You should be able to take them on lol.

I usually win 3/4 matches at school and I rarely die first. But yea like the others said FFAs suck balls. FFA = BARWL.
