  • I just read the entire "Melee is Unfair" thread. The God d*** thing is closed. There's no way I read all that only to stay silent. (At least now I know to look for that lock symbol next to a thread.)

Anyway, I noticed general advice wasn't helping much. I actually loved Forward's post because I myself have often thought of Melee as a language of its own. The best way to "get in the zone" during a match is to try to feel what the game is telling you. Corny, I know. I will apply that to a specific example.

    In the following video:

First of all, Peach is easier to learn than Falco (and Fox). So I wouldn't worry if your friends match your success with less time using Peach.

Second, I notice you like to jump with a quick Dair, then try to shine. Pillaring ... except Peach grabs you before you can shine. I don't know the frame stats, but I know it's **** hard to fastfall & L-cancel quickly enough to shine her before she can grab -- I've only really seen PC Chris do it once or twice.

Basically, you just need to sense when something like this is not working (ideally, after it fails twice). Accept that your timing is not PC-level on this day and have an alternative for the situation. For example, do the same move, but execute the Dair later -- after the peak of the short-hop. That way, you can fastfall immediately into the shine . She'll still be in shield stun when your shine comes out.

Then, if you wish, you can short-hop out of the shine and have two options:

    1. Repeat the delayed-Dair pillar

    2. Or, if she wises up and starts to grab you after the shine, then try the short-hop with the immediate Dair.

Other than that, you looked good in the vid. It's a tough match-up. Always make sure you're far enough away when laser spamming -- that b**** will dash attack you otherwise. I think it's best to stay defensive against Peach. Use your lasers to make her approach. Be ready for turnips (enough lasers from far enough away will usually make these a non-issue) and her rolling towards you. You'll notice that most of the **** Peach does is during chasing. Once you're down, her floats / turnips giver her a lot of options to chase you -- not necessarily combo you -- and keep control. So the focus should never be how to approach or attack or apply damage; it should only be on keeping control.

Sorry if you already know all that, but I didn't read a 10-page thread not to comment :-b...

I live on Wilmot and Fairmont, right across the street from el dorado hospital. I live roughly a mile and a half from the Park Place Mall. It's like a 20 minute bike ride, and like a 5 minute car ride.
