I pretty much feel the same. DDL has an incredibly strong presence and to me was the only truly interesting character. I think the movie would have benefitted from diving into his relation with Amsterdam (and perhaps Jenny) more, rather than touch upon general racial conflicts and the NY Draft Riots in a superficial way that didn't contribute much to the main story (IMO of course). I thought it was kinda lame that Amsterdam's identity was revealed to Bill through betrayal, fully expecting some kind of emotional outburst or conflict that would outline their stances. Because the characters were broken up so suddenly I have no real way of knowing whether Amsterdam felt conflicted about wanting to Kill Bill (heh), despite being taken in by him and it seems like a missed opportunity to add more depth to the character. Because really, the movie to me was about the characters before it was about the times and the history lessons (to the extent that they were accurate in the first place) kind of distracted from it. Solid movie, but definitely not Scorsese's best.
