The other day when I was playing with @ FullMoon I think he activated Substitute easily like 5 times and I only got hit by it once :'D It's a really sad counter.

Actually most of the times I've used Substitute I wasn't actually aiming to hit you and was more like trying to get the boost up. I also remember that one of the misses was because I accidentally used Substitute and you just happened to trigger it.

Substitute has issues hitting, but if you know you're going to miss then you can just aim up and be safe from danger. So Substitute either kills someone or nothing of relevance happens. At least Greninja isn't open for punishment if he misses.

Substitute is a really flawed move but at least the risk of using it isn't any higher than the risk of using any other counter.

I don't like Greninja because of how broken he was day 1.

Wasn't Greninja considered just high tier pre-patch? I'm pretty sure he wasn't considered S tier like Sheik and Rosalina were.

I don't like him because he's a horrendous frog with his tongue for a scarf. I honestly think we didn't need more Pokemon in the roster :'D, but it's also because I don't give two ****s about the newer generations.

There's official concept art showing Greninja with his tongue retracted into his mouth so he likely can eat just fine.

I wanted to see King K. Rool even though I don't like Donkey Kong . It would also have been nice to see someone new from Star Fox, and a new character from the Zelda games. They could have made away with Sheik and use Impa instead or something, that could have been cool.

In response to recent topics but no particular posts:

Substitute is cool and when it hits it hits HARD. I remember being KOed by one offstage when I tried to edgeguard Greninja.

Thunder Burst should be called Discharge you have no idea

I used to think Reflect Barrier was really good but it has its weaknesses. It doesn't reflect directly in front of Palutena (I remember a match where I felled a Timber tree and we BOTH got hit by it lol). It lingers which is nice but the multiplier is terrible. The pushing effect it has is probably more useful than the reflecting, especially for gimping certain recoveries (and the 5% hit at the start is unblockable).

Are you sure that's a true combo with ROB Lavani? A lot of training mode combos can actually be airdodged. About his other customs: Wide Angle Beam is probably better if you can get used to the controls; Infinite Robot Beam would be good if it wasn't laggy. Reflector Arm is probably bad all around except maybe against Villager; I don't get Backward Arm Rotor. Is Up-B 2 the one with a hitbox?; Up-B 3 seems pretty good too. I thought Slip Gyro would be better but the passive spinning hit doesn't cause tripping and IIRC it vanishes if it hits someone right after you launch it; Fire Gyro is probably best because of the extra damage and that it's easier to grab, though I like to snipe people long distance with the default.

I'd be fine with Dark Samus in Smash because her moves SHOULD be unique (but this is Sakurai we're talking about) and she's not technically Samus. Metroid is in a bad spot where most good choices aren't humanoid enough. Ridley's the closest thing to a mainstay but I still say his body is way too awkward (not big though) and he'll probably be ever relegated to being a boss.

And now for something completely different:
Game & Watch's Oil Panic customs are both pretty bad now that the default can absorb explosions and can fill multiple levels at once. Efficient Panic might be good against Fox or Mega Man but the attack has really short range. Panic Overload is even laggier than the default and is harder to catch things with but has an absolutely huge hitbox. One of the customs should have been a move that was usable against people with no projectiles like Villager's Pocket. Something like Oil Slick: trips people on the ground and acts as a windbox on aerial foes because Game & Watch needs more windboxes.

Yeah, it has a hitbox (Luma hitlags the start of upB in that gfy iirc, unless I used a different take for the upload; too lazy to doublecheck). Didn't realize it spiked until I was trying it out against a lv9 Sheik to see if she'd airdodge it though, this thing just gets better. I had 1132 on my ROB before I started experimenting with alternatives today (which, so far, hasn't gone past 1123). I'd probably agree that Fire Gyro is best, I feel like the fact that Slip Gyro is basically a moving banana when first ejected could be useful in certain MUs though.

I don't have anyone else to test it with unfortunately but it seems like uthrow>Robo Burner>uair doesn't seem like it can be airdodged out of; however I'm noticing testing with a lv9 Sheik that the uthrow can be DI'd which prevents uair as a followup. Fair and maybe bair off a turnaround upB should always work though I think.

You know, now that Greninja getting nerfed is becoming quite the meme, I would find it hilarious if in a future patch Greninja got buffed somehow, unlikely as it is. Wouldn't put it past Nintendo.

Which actually reminds me, I know Shadow Sneak can be used out of shield and while that isn't exactly a great option, I was wondering, can we cancel shieldstun with it?

Good question.

Is it still possible to charge the shadow while shielding? I'd imagine initiating the Shadow Sneak after having your shield hit wouldn't work considering it'd require a shield drop.
