That whole fight is sad. Sans knows he can't beat you because eventually you'll learn how to get past him and kill him, so his only choice is to frustrate you or make you get bored enough to give up on what you're doing or make you feel guilty enough to reset to the beginning again.

Sans is completely at your mercy and he's fully aware of it, that's really sad.

Btw girls. I'm still thinking of a secondary to use alongside my main Lucina.

Currently experimenting with a few characters. So far, I've learned Cloud is not for me due to what happened against me and Koiba . Corrin I'm okay with. Since I had some matches against @Feelicks with Corrin before.

Gonna try and experiment some more to see which character I'm best suited with as a secondary. :V

Furret the critical hit animations are beautiful in this game. They still blow my mind even today.

Lyn/Swordmaster crits were my favorite part of GBA fire emblems

the animations in the 3D games lack charm
which makes me feel less bad about turning off animations at least

The battle themes and attack animations really made the game more enjoyable to me. I've only played the GBA games up to this point, and have just started playing the 3ds .

I still kinda enjoy the gameplay of the GBA ones more, but the GBA storylines were kinda corny. The GBA did have some good dialogue and characters tho.

pokemon was doomed to be trash when they switched from sprites to 3d models

sprites have so much charm and models cannot hope to match it

I don't think it's as big of a deal with pokemon as it is FE because they aesthetic appeal of attacks in pokemon 3ds still look good.

when you look at the GBA versions on fire emblem it looks like they put a lot of work into making them look as flashy and cool as possible with the system

the attack animations in 3ds look lazy in comparison

To Fates' credit, I do like that the battles at least take place in a 3d view of the area the units are actually in instead of cutting to generic backgrounds. The attack animations might be bleh but it makes the world feel a bit more immersive.

in fairness, I don't like (female) Kamui's voice options or Felicia's voice in the Japanese version either (though the latter is still far worse in english)

the censorship, random changing of names, and character assassination in favor of jokes and memes is all pretty depressing though

It's funny because even the Tellius games have flashier animations. Although both that and GBA have the weird quirk of opponents on the receiving end barely reacting to even the strongest blows (with only a handful of exceptions in Tellius). Tellius archers were particularly funny, wobbling like bobbleheads.

The 3DS compensates for less elaborate animations with voice acting. Makes the characters stand out more even if they're the same class.

I'm a pretty big fan of the GBA Fire Emblem animations myself. Too bad their charm hasn't transitioned well when FE entered 3D....yet.

Eh, I'll probably read his post later... The problem with pixel art is that they're time consuming. This is a generalization, but you can make a model, texture it, whatever, and start animating for 3D animation. 2D? You're likely going to have to create different images per frame for each animation instead of moving the model. Really generalizing, but it's more time consuming which adds to the expense game development is notoriously breaking and increasing annually. The end result is that 2D animations just look bloody fantastic, but consume a lot of time. KoF XIII's known for that and is a huge example of that, but SNK just doesn't have the funding to do that with KoF XIV. Does that mean 3D animations can't look good? Nope. With careful animation or stylization, 3D animation can look fantastic as well. Examples of beautiful 3D animation would be Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Ninja Gaiden, Ratchet & Clank, Street Fighter V, and Vanquish. Some are just because of the attention to making moves / movement feel alive and visceral like Bayonetta, DMC, Ninja Gaiden, SFV, and Vanquish, some are just the charm they bring like Ratchet & Clank feeling like Pixar films, and others are just the attention to detail like in MGS where you can see intricate animations for reloading, moving through terrain, etc. The opposite can go for 2D animation since done wrong, it can look pretty shoddy.

The other route to doing 2D animation, but "not doing 2D animation" is emulating it. Guilty Gear Xrd uses 3D models, but stylizes in such a way where you'd think they're 2D or almost 2D.

Wished KoF XIV headed this route or is trying to because of their "in development" labels, but it's probably not going to happen unfortunately.
