You sir, basically summed up one of the reasons why I think that OoT is the most overrated game in existence. And yes, I know that it's ten years old but just become something was "good for it's time" doesn't mean that it's still a super special awesome chocolate-coated treat. The real question is this, but aside the liar named "nostalgia" and "fanboyism" and then play the game. Is it really that good of a game? Probably not.
Yeah...I'm not a HUGE fan of OoT (have yet to even get to the third temple because it hasn't pulled me in yet), but I don't want to bash it either; nonetheless, I played ALttP/Four Swords first and loved it.

Which is a good point in terms of that whole "good for its time" argument. ALttP was "remade" (a.k.a. slapped on GBA with upgraded sounds, one extra dungeon and multiplayer mode) for GBA nearly unchanged and it was still a good game, pretty good seller unless I'm mistaken.

Not really taking sides here though. I like the Zelda series, it's one of the four series' that I can thank for my position as I am now. Sonic started me on gaming, Pokemon opened me up to handheld gaming, Smash Bros. introduced me to new characters and franchises, and ALttP/Four Swords threw me into the world of all of the wonderful games there are out there. After that I branched off into Metroid, more Zelda, Mario, etc.

So yeah, anyone arguing that Call of Duty beats (most) Zelda games pisses me off, mostly because I find those games to be boring and very similar and my friends overrate them to no end. They CLAIM that the two weeks they did nothing but play World at War was because there was nothing else to play when we hung out, but I have a ****load of games, a fair number being multiplayer. They just wanted to play World at War, no johns.

Nonetheless, who really cares. He's going to hate Zelda, you're going to love Zelda...

To each his own.

All Zelda games are HYPEHYPEHYPEHYPE.
I'll always have it in the back of my head "I should be having the time of my life right now because everyone and their mother has been telling me to play this game."

With that mindset, it's not fun. It ruins the game for me.

You basically just explained my entire view on ALttP, as well as on OoT (I never made it past the second dungeon because I just couldn't get that pull-in). Maniclysane explained it as well, but yours basically said everything.

Also, has anyone ever tried to imagine what ALttP would be like if they would have unleashed it on the N64? You know, with the 3D graphics and more OoT-like gameplay. Because...my vision alone makes me think OoT is overrated. I feel like that's really the only thing that separates the two in people's minds (although subtly), and from what I've visualized of ALttP in terms of 3D, it just seems like it would simply be better. I know that's nothing to use as some sort of argument, because it hasn't really happened. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever really thought about it.

Actually, that's making me want to send a letter to Nintendo and ask them to remake ALttP in 3D, just so I can see if my visuals are anywhere near as amazing as I imagined...

Meeh, actually WW was pretty much boo'd down because of its "childish" graphics by a lot of people, myself included. After that I finally decided to play it and boy was I wrong. I'll never doubt Zelda again, even if it features robot dinosaurs with lasers.

But as a guy earlier said, to each his own.

You know what Nintendo needs to do? They need to do a whole series of SNES games remade for Wii and/or DS. For example, I'd love to see an ALttP/Four Swords-style Super Metroid remake for DS, meaning the graphics aren't upgraded, only the sounds, and the basic gameplay is mostly unchanged aside from maybe one bonus (and NOT a Zero Suit Samus part); either that or a 2.5D remake for Wii. I'd love to see ALttP in 3D. It might be interesting to see the DKC series remade in 3D too (it's not in need of another handheld remake series, it's already had multiple versions of that through GBA, Donkey Kong Land 2, the GBC remake of DKC, etc.), maybe a Super Mario RPG remake, etc.
The SNES ought to get more recognition, it has some epic classics.

I would love to see ALttP especially, though. It's the game with the most useful Hookshot. Enough said.
And I can only imagine how great some of those songs would sound fully expanded on a console.

OoT is the best game ever. Period. That conversation didnt show the awesomeness that is OoT not even barely scratched the surface of its awesomeness. Add to it Majoras mask and u have epic.

If OoT is overrated, then consider me Miles Davis? (rofl Billy Madison humor)

If you want to talk about overrated, then take a look at the emoboy Cloud and the fairy Sephiroth.

FFVII was awesome, but it wasn't a (G)odsend like people make it out to be. Usually comes from people that haven't played VIII-X which are all arguably better. ( IX was solid but the Tetra card game alone made it awesome)

Once again, I completely agree with you. I don't really know what else to say, because anything more would be rather off-topic.

Yes Miles Davis, we do already realize that FFVII is possibly the most overrated game ever created. And OoT isn't too far behind. Now don't get me wrong, it's good, but to say that it's the best game out there? That's ignorant.

And I love how almost everyone siding with OoT as the best game ever disregards the posts mentioning ALttP and its viability as better than OoT; almost as though it isn't even part of the franchise. I mean seriously, you've all covered how it's the best of the games that have been introduced in 3D. Why not turn the clocks backward now and look at the ones that came out beforehand? I'd love to see your side of the debate on that one.

Agh, ZELDA GAMES ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE BEST STORIES IN THE WORLD.
Some people take other things into consideration, like which is more fun,
You say it is because it was good for its time.

Well, I played Final Fantasy 10 before Final Fantasy 7, BUT, I liked Final Fantasy 7 more,
HAHA...

... I never said anything about story. Seriously, people keep on putting words into my mouth to make it sound like I hate things I don't. It's starting to become aggravating.

Something told me that you put that last comment just to get on my nerves. But, haha! I doesn't work on me because I thought that they both kind weren't very good! Okay, that's not true, I thought that X was pretty good and that VII was somewhat mediocre. /rant Play Final Fantasy IX.

To call OoT the best thing ever just...annoys me. I enjoyed SH2's gameplay and story 20x more than OoT, you dont see me annoying the **** out of people with threads and posts about it.

It IS his blog so... I guess he can talk about anything that happened to him.

And ALttP.... It was good, but it just didn't ge to me as OoT did. Whoever says that ALttp's and OoT's stories are the same is ignorant. And anyways, Zelda is somewhat repetitive, so I don't see a problem even if that were true.

I actually played Ocarina of Time in 2007. I'm exempt from the nostalgia/fanboy rule.

I loved it. :\

I've actually been meaning to play through Ocarina of Time again, once I get a chance to I plan on borrowing it from my friend. Who knows? Maybe my thoughts on Ocarina of Time will change, and maybe I'll get a girlfriend too.

Finished it in '08, played it in '98. I got only hit by the Nostalgia missile in the townsquare XD.

If any one wants a Good Zelda Game

Majora's Mask.
Majora's Mask was a great game. Second best in series, only falling behind Twilight Princess, but just barely.

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

So you're saying that Majora's Mask is better than the original Zelda, Ocarina of Time, AND A Link to the Past?

Any sane game critic, game magazine, and Zelda player will tell you that those three I mentioned are without a doubt the best in the series.

Majora's Mask good, but it lacked HORRIBLY. Most importantly it lacked in graphics (which were an EXACT RIP of OoT) and the time restraint just made it not fun, and more of a rush.

Yes,yes I am saying that Majora's was better than the original Zelda (which wasn't that good), better than Ocarina of Time (which, while fun, wasn't that good either), but it's on the same level as Link to the Past.

Any sane critic would tell you that those are the best, but I'm not a sane critic. I'm a level-headed critic who refuses to give into the masses because they are almost always wrong on every level. Constantly being blinded by fanboyism, the gaming media, and that load of bull called "nostalgia."

Never listen to fans unless they harshly criticize whatever they're a fan of. Why? Because trusting zealous fan's word is like trusting a politician.

And game magazines and websites are inclined to agree with the masses because if they didn't they would be called unreliable by stupid fanboys.

And here's what Majora's Mask was a hell of a lot better than Ocarina. It was deeper, had more side-quests to keep you entertained longer, none of the dungeons made me want to snap my controler in two so that I could slit my wrists with them, and it had a hell of a lot more depth shoved into it's plot. My only problems is how short it is, the fact that you lose everything when you go back in time, and that the process of getting into a few of the dungeons was fairly tedious because you had to resolve a sub-plot before you could move on.

The original Zelda's quality is completely based off nostalgia. If you seriously enjoy it more than something like The Windwaker or Twilight Princess I have trouble believing you aren't a fanboy blinded by nostalgia.
