The original Zelda's quality is completely based off nostalgia. If you seriously enjoy it more than something like The Windwaker or Twilight Princess I have trouble believing you aren't a fanboy blinded by nostalgia.
Agreed. I played that game at a friends a few weeks ago for about five minuets, then thought to myself "this game kind of sucks." Nostalgia is like being drunk in the same way that it makes you say really stupid things.

One of my old favorites is Spyro The Dragon for the PlayStation. But I'm not calling it a super special awesome godsend. Come on, most of the levels were so short that you could fly through them in little over a minuet, Spyro's voice actor needed to make his balls drop. With pliers if necessary, and lets not forget that the game was easier than Bioshock! I could go on, but I think you get my point.

I played Majora`s Mask around the same time as Ocarina of Time,
but got alot more enjoyment out of Ocarina, nostalgia has nothing to do with it.
You can`t prove one is better than the other, I`m just saying I had more
fun with Ocarina of Time, it is my opinion so you can`t prove me wrong:p

^ This. When you have a series of games like the Zelda series, where there really isn't one clear-cut best game that stands far above the rest, saying that one is better than the other really just comes down to your own opinions. Saying that someone who enjoys the first game more than the most recent ones is by default a nostalgia-blinded fanboy is just trying to force your own opinion on them. Many Zelda fans enjoy the older games more because they are more challenging than the newer ones. Saying that it kind of sucks is an opinion. Not a popular one, but you're entitled to hold it nonetheless. But turning that opinion into saying that anyone who prefers it is a blind fanboy is as wrong as a fanboy insisting that it's the best thing ever.

Any sane critic would tell you that those are the best, but I'm not a sane critic. I'm a level-headed critic who refuses to give into the masses because they are almost always wrong on every level. Constantly being blinded by fanboyism, the gaming media, and that load of bull called "nostalgia."
I'm just like you. This is pretty much why Wind Waker is put above all the Zelda games (that I've played). I liked it for my own reasons -- the sea travel, sidequests, toonish graphics, and music. If there were one thing that should've been changed about it, it should have been the difficulty. Even then though, I've played the game about 4 times so far so difficulty decreases with time..

I'm starting to put TP over OOT now that I'm playing through it a second time.

I usually don't judge games until a second playthrough, when I do most of the quests. TP is really interesting me more than OOT for now though.

I can't say anything about Majoras Mask though. I'm wating for it to get out on the VC or to find it in a pawn shop somewhere since I just found my N64. I have played it, but never really beat it. It was a complicated game though.. but the dungeons .. not so much. I found more challenge out of actually getting to the dungeons. That's just me though.

And for ALttP.. I haven't played it yet. I didn't get far into the original either, mainly 'cause when I played it I was around 5 years old and knew nothing about the series then..

edit: also, the whole nostalgia thing should be mentioned to those "pokefans" who believed the series went downhill after generation 1. That's all I'm gonna say though, 'cause I don't want this to get off-topic.

There's a difference between opinion and quality.
This is true. But the original Zelda is not a bad game. It is one of the most challenging Zeldas out there. And a somewhat common complaint I've heard from Zelda fans about the newer games is that they're too easy. So for players that value the challenge, I can see how they would prefer the original. So what it comes down to is what you as a gamer value most in your gaming experience.

TP had the second best music in the series before MM, the deepest sword combat, and the best dialogue/plot. It's my favorite Zelda game.

Then MM.

Then LttP.

Then OoT.

Actually I thought Wind Waker had better music and a better combat system(cooler combos) than Twilight Princess. But I like those games both the same:p

Zelda is awesome. Haters :[

On the topic of ur preffered zelda game:

My favorite is Majoras Mask. The plot, soundtrack, side quests, etc. just make it the best for me.

My second favorite is Ocarina of Time. :)

My third fav is Wind Waker. It had a great plot, the dungeons were challenging, very long game and just a great zelda game overall.

4th fav is LttP. I actually got to play this even when I was little lol my older sis had it for snes and thats practically how I got hooked to zelda...this was an awesome game. I still remember turning into a bunny o_O.

5th fav is Twilight Princess. I just dont like the simplicity of TP...and it didnt intrigue me as much as the above.

6th is the original dont shoot me X_X. I have the collector's edition and I dont even understand what I have to do at the beginning o_O and I just cant play it :(. I like challenging games but this is just too much.
