Wow, that conversation really overrated Ocarina of Time, IMO.

It's not the best game in the world. It was good, it got me into the Zelda series, but there are better series' and games out there.

I found WindWaker better than it.

Zelda is the beginning and the end of all gaming. To not play Zelda is to deny one's own soul. To hate OoT is to hate oneself. There can be no other answer. The answer to life, the universe, and everything isn't 42. It's Zelda.

Ok, maybe that's going a bit far. :D Zelda's pretty darn awesome though.

I tried to play Majoras Mask and couldnt get out of the treehouse.

I had the same problem with kingdom hearts.

I suck at these games ;_; I did have fun running from my fairy though lol.

Now that I've had my fun, I'll actually put in a supportive comment. I'll admit that Zelda's has some good games. But then again.... there are a few titles that I'd rather not have existed

Most people didn't like it, so I can't really blame you for not liking it.

But Zelda doesn't have one game which you would call mediocre.
Zelda II

(dives into bomb shelter)

Regardless of all of the crap that I've said, I do think that Zelda's a good series.

OoT's still more overrated than Football, though.

Ok. Now you've done it. Now I'm mad.
(not really, but I'm gonna rant anyway just for kicks)

OoT is probably overrated. I know I like it far too much, and it's far too beloved by me to make any rational statement. I also know that many people disagree, and are free to. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I understand that. But...

OoT's still more overrated than Football, though.
No. Football sucks. OoT doesn't. It may not be the Jesus of games, or even the best Zelda game out there (MM and WW make good cases for themselves). But there is no way OoT is more overrated than football. No. *Foams violently at the mouth while jumping up and down angrily on the door of your bomb shelter.*

ANYWAY... enough faux-ranting for now. It takes a lot out of me. Zelda 2, I think, has lost a lot of its appeal to time. I find its controls awkward (on the GC edition). I find the gameplay less than enjoyable. But I think it was pretty good back in its day. Zelda fanboys that aren't me would probably call Phantom Hourglass and Minish Cap mediocre though. Mediocre for Zelda anyway. On a non-Zelda scale, they're still really good.

Scott, you're awesome.

Anyway, yeah, a game may have been good back then. But a truly good game would still stand out and be a load of fun, even twenty or so years after it's release.

Just throwing that out there. From inside my bomb shelter.

Not necessarily true. Lots of good games don't even stand out in the gen they were released, but that doesn't mean they're not good. And most games start to look dull compared to the "hot new stuff".

And don't you dare touch my Zelda. I'll rip apart your shelter lol.

Honestly, Zelda is a good series, buuuuut OoT may be overrated.
It's definitely on my list of awesome games, but I wouldn't go on a date with it.
(not that I would go on a date with any game, but you know what I mean lolol)

I love the storyline in OoT. Pretty much everything else I love about it has wavered because of better recent alternatives (gameplay controls, graphics) but the story is still amazing. (That and the soundtrack, but Koji Kondo has a tendency to hardly ever be careless about Zelda music)

The gameplay of it was revolutionary when it came out, and its probably aged to a point where we've found better mechanics of gameplay controls. Even right afterwards for Majora's Mask, and much better in Twilight Princess. This is likely where people find a position to call it overrated.

OoT is my favorite Zelda game, but there are very close seconds. (Perhaps if they were first they wouldn't be considered overrated...or would they?)

But still, while the graphics and gameplay may have aged, the storyline remains constant to evoke the same emotions meant for each part of the game, and will likely continue to do the same several console generations later.

Fixed, for great justice.

Anyway, Zelda is a pretty good series, but whenever I play a Zelda game I can't help but feel repetition. Actually this is something I've been meaning to bring up. As we all know, Nintendo just loves treading old ground. And they've also don't the same by doing to "OoT and Mario 64" formula in all of their major Zelda and Mario titles. In all "proper" Mario games post Mario 64 (that being Sunshine and Galaxy) they throw you into a big-*** level hub then throw portals around all over the place that lead to different levels. And you always have to collect stars or some variant of starts to unlock stuff. And in all of the "proper" Zelda titles (Winder Waker, Twilight Princess, I don't think Majora's follow this though) you always have to get three items which then cause something to happen, making you go find eight (or something around that number) of some other items.

Yeah, Zelda does do the repetition thing. It always has. The original had a quest for 8 items, ALttP had the three to eight thing, OoT had 3 to 6, WW had the 3 to 8, TP had 3 to 4. MM did break the pattern a lot, and that's why it's one of the best. But even though that stuff is the same, each game brings something new and different in gameplay and story.

Back to an earlier point, some games definitely lose something with time. OoT was revolutionary graphically in its day, but now they're terrible comparably. Not that it's a fair comparison, but it's lost something there. Even I admit it.

Who cares what it looks like, Ocarina of Time is one of the most fun games
I have ever played. The places are cooler and have better exploration than Majora`s Mask.
I`ve found exploring a lot more fun in OoT than Majora`s Mask, where you are limited to like a
3 screen area at a time. But, Majora`s Mask has a cool city where people have sceduals and
are more interactive than Oot, but that is the only improvement that really stands out.
Ocarina also has more and better minigames, and you can chose which sword and shield and tunic you wear
:O but I guess for some people those aspects don`t really matter.

I still have fun with OoT. But then again, I clocked more Years(5) in Rouge Squadron than OoT..and dare I say it Rouge Squadron was one of those games of pure win XD.

Where people get NOTHING.
Say it...I dare you...

Everyone seems to be jumping on the Bash OoT Bandwagon this month lol.

I've only started to hear about it "not being a good game" or "all that great a game" just recently.

At the time it was ****ing amazing. Anyone who doesn't believe that was either too little at the time or didn't play it when it came out.

People who compare games then to games now should remember that OoT's only OVER 10 YEARS OLD!!!

What people wanted in and expected from a video game is completly different now than it was then, or even 5 years ago.

Rogue Squadron is another amazing game too. Played some of 2, but while it was good, nothing beats 1. So darn classic.

ALttP was actually 3 to 7. Doesn't really matter, but I still thought I'd point it out. Can't let my favorite game of all time get misreferenced, after all. :)

I love Zelda too, but there's no way in hell that series is going anywhere with the recent games that have come out, at least for me personally.

Majoras Mask was better than every Zelda game. Ever.

Ocarina of Time was almost a cold rehash of A Link to the Past (Which was a better game than Ocarina of Time). You had the boy wake up, realize he needed to go somewhere (Deku tree/castle) and after that, he found out he was needed for some amazing quest. He then had to go find three stones of power (Two more in Ocarina of time). After he got those three stones, he went into a different world (Dark/Adult form). He then went to 6 more temples (5 in Ocarina of time) then slayed Ganondorf.

Ocarina of time was a lesser Alttp.

Yeah I agree.
It's like looking at your movie collection and seeing (insert classic movie title here), and knowing it's a good movie.
But then crying when you know that it'll never match up to anything newer. :(

You sir, basically summed up one of the reasons why I think that OoT is the most overrated game in existence. And yes, I know that it's ten years old but just become something was "good for it's time" doesn't mean that it's still a super special awesome chocolate-coated treat. The real question is this, but aside the liar named "nostalgia" and "fanboyism" and then play the game. Is it really that good of a game? Probably not.

I played all of the zelda games and OoT is pretty much the best in my opinion.

Saying Alttp was better because they had similar content is stupid because most Zelda games are the same thing over and over anyway.

I think I raised that point earlier in this thread. And Nintendo does like to do that "rehash the old crap and throw in a few new things" a lot, I've noticed.
