his mobility and recovery are really good in teams, but he works mostly as a damage and support/assist character because he is pretty slow at getting around. if you play safe, he is actually really good at surviving and keeping stock. he cannot get kills very well. stage control becomes very strong with young link on the team since he can throw projectiles at every angle

Yeah I'd have to say Ylink's usefullness is directly related to who your teammate is using. if they are someone who can easily get Kills, go for it, otherwise I'd be a little more than skeptical about using him.

I think a Ylink Peach team would be interesting... I'd like to try it sometime... you could both live forever....

I did some team friendlies at SMASH! Minnesota 2 and teamed with LightsOutAce's Sheik. YL provides an okay pressure / damage tool to the team, while sheik goes in for kills.

the problem with ylink + another survival character is that ylink will lose the 1v1 vs a lot of other characters. if the other team separates ylink's team into 1v1's, they can win. marth, sheik, and falcon become much harder to fight because there is less room to run away in teams, and spacies are already really hard.

ylink is really good vs teams with peach and puff, though.

Y link in teams is actually kinda good.
-Stock holder
- A lot of stage controll with projectiles
-Good to destroy combos for opponents with projectiles
- Really good at saveing your team8
- Kinda good edgeguard

Then he is also kinda good at team combos. I think Fox/Ylink is something that would be really fun to see. Me and Leffen have been trying that team a bit and it is good. I think Fox/Ylink actually is good against Puff teams. Puffs problem with Y link is staying in the air and against fox staying on the ground.

I think this teams makes her a bit worse and they have really early kills on puff. Would love to try it sometime against a really good Puff team with Leffen or something

I definitely agree with Armada there, but it's pretty conditional. Y.link in teams with a teammate who's a hard-hitter and good with stage control can work very well. (So not really Puff, Peach, Sheik, etc.) Y.link can stop team combos and over-all teamwork from the other team, and keep them separated well and rack up damage while the y.link's teammate gets the kills. Especially if they have a slower/floaty character. Not to mention holding stocks. Y.link's teammate has to be able to space well and handle themselves under pressure, which they'll be getting a lot of from both of the opponents, while also being able to get the quick kills.

Just my opinion, anyways. I've had to deal with y.link in teams a few times because since pound v hurr durr :younglinkmelee:>:jigglypuffmelee:

The trick is finding some who will agree to team with you if you go Young Link...
Yeah this is true. But It is only cause no one have seen the potencial to be honest. Okay like Krynxe explained it works worse with stock holders and/or deffensive teamchars. With Fox I honestly can see Y link doing great things if he gets the chance to play with a Fox that understand how to team with y link.

Playing with a char like Y link means that you as the Y link player need to be SUPER precice with everything cause your bombs is giveing a lot of damage but also destroy/benefit and small margins can be really important.

It's also really important to understand each other well when Fox is recovering cause seriously fox never die offstage if you have good understanding. I would love to try Fox/Ylink with m2k/Leffen against something like Hbox/Plup

I think Falcon is one of the better team8s for Ylink (even if Fox is by far the best one). A lot of the things I did mention in that earlier post is really good with Falcon as a team8 too.

One of my best friends mains Falcon, I will try this experiment...
It makes sense, Yink can spam and combo, and Falcon's knee can take care of the kills.
Yink can also save Falcon with projectiles.

Bing: Yeah why not. Would be awesome to see. Basically Y link need fast chars that is good at killing (and kinda bad recoverys) but also chars that is kinda good offensive.

Fastfallers fill those things good. Falcon as a team8 would be worth a try for sure. Don't give up to soon though cause Y link is really hard to play in teams if you ask me but really underrated

I think Ylink is an easy character to pick up, but playing him at a high level is hard.

If you get decent with him you might take a game or two off a spacie, Sheik or Marth, but once they learn his options its tough sledding from there.

Bing: Yeah he is hard cause he is way worse then fox/Falco exc. But some chars are kinda much the same thing when they are playing in singles or teams. Y links game is based on projectilies and it becomes WAY harder when you need to use them correctly against 3 people at the same time.

My point is that some chars have a bigger curve of how hard they are to play if we compare singles and teams and I think Y link is one of the harder ones in teams

YL in teams is definitely easier to play than YL alone.

Just sayin.

You actually stand a chance because you won't get gimped as often if your partner is legit. That's one of YL's main things is stupid gimps and ****** combos.

Well once it becomes more than up-b's and throwing **** at random,yes...
Infact Ylink's spot on the tier list I find surprising.. I feel he should be lower.
lol, look at the characters worse than him, he's right where he should be.
Zelda basically loses against everyone above her, except maybe DK, Roy is the only character I'd consider could be above him. He has better MU's against the spacies and Falcon, though YL does better against most of the rest of the cast.

rhan: I can understand why you think like you does but I do not agree.
I think many people say Y link is harder in singles becasue he is way worse then top tiers. That dosen't make the potential the chars has really hard it makes the char hard to win with cause he is much worse.

In teams every char that is "bad" can count on the better chars and it feels easier and the chance for seeing Y link win is bigger cause your team8 helps you out. BUT I think playing Y link correct in teams is harder then singles because he has a really speciall style as a team char that means you need to have a really good game understanding to not mess up with your projectilies all the time

I agree with Armada when he says Ylink in Singles is easier than teams because look at it this way.

As we all know, Ylink's game is based off Projectiles and mobility. In singles, you can freely move about and spam everything you want. In Teams, you have to be a lot more careful because of the obvious. You dont throw a projectile just right, you just messed up your partners combo, gave the opponent a free shot/stock even.

In teams Ylink's best stages can also become more limited based on your partner.

Yes obviously when spamming projectiles theres two of them and one of your partner, so the odds, mathematically speaking are in your favour to hit one of them(Opponent) but still.

I dunno this is how I feel. :S

Hey Armada, could you maybe get some matches of yourself as YL in teams and upload them/have them uploaded?
I'm curious...
Btw man, you should apply to the Melee Backroom, quite certain you would get in. :p

In teams you use less projectiles. You mainly need bombs to be in control. Boomerang will only mess up yourself and your opponent. Yl in teams in based around being near your partner anyway and being support. At least that's hgow I play YL in teams.

BRLNK88: Yeah sure why not. But you need to wait for Beauty 4 (12-15 April) then I can play with Leffen and record some matches =)

I was in MBR before they did a new version of it (or something) but nothing ever happend and every serious discussion went to some random ****. So I never really cared about getting back into it. But yeah maybe I should.

rhan: Yeah the bomerang is not that good. Other from that I think we play a bit different with Y link in teams. Do you have any matches or something?

I don't have tons of experience so I would like to see someone play diffrently from me.

I would pull them up but I'm unable to bring up youtube so the best I can say is search for some. There might be some recent stuff on there but I don't know. Last time I had some teams recorded was like... Pound 5 I believe.

I'll be able to possibly find some next week and have them up.

Beauty4!!! :D

But:
Hey Sweden, when will your forum come back? You just announced beauty4 and it was hype and ****, but then your forum went down and now it's been down for over a week. So sad :(
:(

Maybe you guys could make a topic on SWF tournament listing? I still really want to go to this even though I can't really stay updated on it. Maybe I can tell you what's up then too.

We have make a page about it on FB. I guess you should be able to find it if you Search for "Beauty 3" (Lolex did thins wrong don't ask me why).

I guess he has invited some people but clearly not everyone. Try to search for it and tell all the other guys from Denmark. If you can't find it send me a PM or something just in case I don't visit this thread anytime soon.

Guys, you have to start Cstick buffering jumps with YLink.

Makes bomb spamming so much faster.

I found a **** ton of year old team matches.

Cons about them:

1) They're old.
2) I DON'T remember playing any of these.
3) It's all texture hacked. Some people don't like that (Personally I don't).
4) I haven't looked into any of them. I know I'm playing YL from time to time just not every game. So yeah.

Pros about them:

1) Teams and YL.
