Mark Twain was an American writer
Objection wars aside, I feel this is a VERY relevant point. Ignoring the fact that orthography does not always reflect speech (see: sure, rough/through/dough), the origin of the speaker dictates the dialect of the speaker. I do not know much about Australian English, but I know that if we were to write the word "little" phonetically in American English and British English, the former would have an alveolar flap and the latter a glottal stop. Similarly, if a Cockney accent is in used, the word "horrible" have a different sound than "mayhem," although this is not the case in American English.Objection!
Point is irrelevant.
