Would you cut any of Metal Mario, Pink Gold Peach, Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link, the Inklings, Villager and Isabelle (pick who stays and who goes) in exchange for Petey Piranha, Paratroopa, Funky Kong, Blooper (is therefore no longer an item), Birdo, R.O.B (both colors selectable), the Ice Climbers (either made smaller to fit in a single kart, split into two slots or the karts are larger to accommodate both Popo and Nana), Mr. Game & Watch and Duck Hunt playable? (the dog drives, the duck follows like Luma in Mario Kart Wii). You do not have to do a 1 for 1 trade and can make unequal trades.

The blooper item would be replaced by the 8 bit Duck Hunt dog blocking a smart part of the screen just to laugh at you.

This next game is not a Mario Kart game, but rather "Mario and Crash Team Kart" - a crossover between the Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing series.

You can choose between 2 play styles, CTR style and MK style. Both play like their respective games, and have advantages and disadvantages - MK having outstanding stats but little ways to do better without items, and CTR having weaker stats but some amazing tech you can pull off. There is anti-gravity, but no gliders or water. Play styles are not exclusive to any character or kart, and stats have been simplified to Engine Swaps from CTR:NF

I feel that last roster I made was a "little" overambitious, so here's an alternative roster the size of MK8D's roster.

 

[Dixie Kong]

Diddy, Dixie, and K. Rool I would definitely add as characters, and I would make the game similar to Double Dash where there are double karts.
Heck, maybe I would just remake Double Dash and add more content!

 

[Verde Coeden Scalesworth]

I'd pretty much return everyone, no exceptions. However, if any non-Mario-related(so, Wario, DK, and Yoshi still count) were to be reduced, I'd have it one per "guest" series. I'd generally stick with the core protagonist in each case. Oddly, there's few cases of these either way. Miis, Link, Villager, and Isabelle. Only one I'd cut, if we have to reduce it, is Isabelle, since Villager is the more important character of the two. I'd prefer she stay in overall, but reductions do require you to be specific.

I'd absolutely keep Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach. I honestly like them. Possibly make some of these costumes, like Gold Mario for Metal Mario. Pink Gold Peach might be okay as a costume, but I could see her more separated. Like a Gold version works for her too. Peach I think has had new costumes lately.

I wouldn't give random metals or baby forms either. Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Peach stay. If one more is added, either Baby Wario, Baby Yoshi, or DK Jr. Ones created outside of Mario Kart, that is. Though if space isn't an issue, add the extras I mentioned instead.

As for Guests, I'd definitely want to see Samus, Captain Falcon, Sonic, Kirby, Pac-Man, and if that's not feasible, Mii-related outfits for each of them. Those are still great options to represent the character overall in a nice fun way.

I would cut all of those characters and require you to play as a Mii driver when you start, and you have to unlock everything, even the ability to use your personal Mii instead of the default one

i would add a dedicated "gnarly" button, which allows you to do a sick burnout mid race without any further input
