Nate - I dont have a "plan" for compensation on those things. You are right though you did run about 3/4 of the 1v1 the last time and it was HUGE.
Dan and Everyone - So regardless of if you call it pools or separate tournaments, it amounts to the same. We need a method of making multiple touraments that lead to a "play off" or sorts to determine 1st - whatever place.
Someone always gets screwed in any tournament...By nature of the seeding in most settings the worst player gets set up against the best player, that is about as screwed as you can get.
I think we need to set up pools or regions or whatever and then take the top 4 or 5 from each region and play them off in a 5th bracket.
We would determine the pools randomly and then determine seeding within those pools by either Location or Random.
If we have 100 people (if we have more then 50) there is just no way that that bracket is feasable to run, and in all honesty the screw job would be even worse from that stand point. 1/2 of the entries would be 2 and out.
So maybe we do 3 deep on the brackets.
Lets say 100 people.
We do 4 25 man brackets - Take top 15 from each, but we would play the whole bracket out to determine seeding for the next bracket.
We then play 2 30 man brackets. Take top 8 from each, using results to seed.
We then play the finals as a 16 man bracket for the top position.
We would still have a lot of people who would be 2 and out...but its better then half...
So we would have 40 people out of the tournament in the first brqcket - likely 2 and out.
We would have 60 though that got at least 4 games in... (2 from 1st round and 2 from 2nd round...
I dont know its an idea...
I leave for Detroit int he morning and will not be back in Seattle until Friday.
Then gone again on next Sunday and not back until the next Friday...

well theres certain people who'd need to be seperated in pools, random seeding for some but seperate out some of the players so we dont have a bracket thats say ka sas blair nate and silent just on a random set with one composed of all randoms XD

I agree somehwat with the region thing, but the rankings need to come into play so we would need certain people not in the same pool/bracket.
I'm not really sure how we should do it, but one thing i do know is going 2 and out is not nearly as bad as going 2 and out by either; a)people you play all the time, or b)someone of about the same skill level. So hopefully we dont have to run into that...
I know thats just a small thing but I think we really need to talk about this @ Gameclucks because doing this over the boards would be annoying.

Ok lets set up some actual time to talk about this at GC, but we can not have everyone included in the talk... Needs to be like Dan, Nate, Gimpy, Otto, Teddy and Sas (if he is there).
Needs to be a small group...else it gets too chaotic (you all decide which people spcifically... above is just my suggestion based on tournament knowledge and planning, not Smash Skill)
I would prefer the meeting be earlier instead of later as I have really only Saturday to get my usual Mon - Fri stuff done as I leave for Detroit again early Sunday.
So can some/all of you listed above make it to GC at like 10:30?
If not, we will figure something out.

To make this a less spammy thread.. If u guys could bring a TV or GC/Wii to the tourney that would be great cause we are gonna need as many as possible for our tourney in Canada April 28th http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=98421 Also Bring as many people as possible to the tourney so it can be just as great hopefully as the DAN TOURNEY will be! we cant make it to norcal every few months? otto do you have a hugely busy set of weekends where you cant spare an entire weekend for smash? waitaminute. you always have that time.
