Videos are a bit blurry, but it's not bad.
How do these videos look to you?
Disregard the scrubby youtube account name, but I'm using a capture card my younger stepbrother recently bought. I walked past it for about a week now and I just started using it, it's pretty legit. (Dazzle + Pinnacle on an MPEG-2 Format. Maybe MPEG-4 is better?)(I was the DK, Red-X was the Ike...obviously.)
nah I didn't get a chance to play you. I watched you though, you are a very talented playergood to know ^^
Btw I played you at apex I think isnt it ?
sorry if its the case and I dont remember you, I just played too much people that I never saw before
btw dont know when ill come back on internet see ya next time and hopefully with new gimmicks !
A card/miniatures shop. Has room to fit about 20ish people comfortably with room left over. What kind of a venue is it?
The venue fees will be going straight to the store owner, no worries there. I may also trust him with the entry fees, though I may just stick the cash in my pocket.Make sure you have enough extensions for the outlets. Depending on how many people show up you might want to have a mini-safe to keep the inscription and venue fees, keep different fees seperate with envelopes. If there are too many people to memorize their faces print out tickets or use really cheap wristbands (of the same color). Have a paper listing whose equipment is where in the venue.
Well, so far it's just my setup and a friend's. I'll be putting a call out for additional TVs and Wiis, but the worse case scenario is 2. And I'm expecting about 10 people at least. x_xIf you only have 1 or 2 setups, offer a full discount of the venue fee to anybody who brings a complete setup (tv+wii+brawl). You might lose a little money this way but it'll be worth it if it means you can have a TV with friendlies going on while running the bracket. Speaking of which, don't be afriad to kick people out of TVs that are supposed to be used in the tournament.
I really want to play, but I don't know of anyone who could help me run it, sadly. Everyone has just as much experience as I do in all of this. The Smash scene in my area is... well, there isn't one. I can probably barrow my roommate's laptop. Hopefully. If you want to play in your tournament don't try to run it by your lonesome, have someone else on bracket duty while you play. If you can bring a laptop with tio installed, else just bring print-outs of brackets that are close to the expected size of the tournament, a pencil and dice - for example, if you expect 20 people bring print-outs of a 16 and 32-man double elimination bracket.
I really want to run a double elim tourny, but with just 2 set ups and about 10 people, would 5 hours be a realistic time frame to get all that done? And that's everything by the way. Setting up. Signing up. Collecting the money. Making announcements. Etcetera. I think I'll end up making it single elim regardless and even then I think I'm stretching it. The store owner is giving me from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and that means done BY 2. He can open up earlier, but 9 a.m. is already pushing it for me. I'm not a morning person, lol.Try to always run pools. In my 20 player example above having 16 make it to the bracket would make the 4 that didn't look really bad, so what you do is run a 16 man bracket with 4 BYEs - the top 3 players of each pool go on with the best player getting the BYE.
This will be a first time for everyone, so I wont have to worry about seeding at least.Don't forget to seed properly - make it so the top two players can't face each other in winners' until the finals, the top four players can't face each other in winners' until the semi-finals etc. Seed just for the power of 2 that is <= than the size of your tournament divided by 2. What this means is for 20 players seed 8 of them, for 16 players seed 8 of them, for 12 players seed 4 of them etc. If you don't know the skill level of any of the entrants just randomize it and use the results for your next tournament.
Some friends I play with constantly will be there, so I'll take care to remember this. After seeding for skill, make sure to keep people from the same location seperate. This includes people who live on the same block, brothers, friends that play each other all the time etc. If the entrants live pretty close to one another but they almost never play together feel free to skip this.
I was going to go with, $5 venue fee and $5 entry fee. Nice and simple and affordable for the people in my area.If your region is new to competitive smash keep the entry fee as low as appropriately possible and raise it if the competitive spirit shines through. If you're doing cash prizes, start by splitting 60%-30%-10% for the top 3 places (or if your tournament has 10 people or less split the prize 70%-30%). After 2 or 3 tournaments, if you see always see the same people placing top 3 expand the prize to top 5 if the people that place in fifth at least get their money back, otherwise don't bother.
