sanchaz and i are ****** the next regional teams tourney, calling it now

to beat super techy ppl like sync and culvers, you don't have to outsmart them, just outspace them

you don't have to be smart, you just have to hit them more than they hit you

being smart might help tho

Do you think it's possible for newer guys like me and Xeylode to ever get on or near the level of the other players around here? Or has the metagame advanced too far for new people to ever become truly proficient?

my first tourney was last year. you guys got this. once your tech skill is good enough, you just gotta keep playing other people. experience is really important.

I've been playing for like 3 months, and I feel like I'm getting better all the time.
Great feeling.
Also I agree that when playing people better than you, you either quit or get better.

I never played competitive melee before coming to Wisconsin. I had not even touched melee for years before coming here. About 15 weeks later at around 6 hours playing per week ( which = one smashfest per week) and nothing else, I want to say I made a ton of progress. I have gone from getting 4 stocked against any character you guys pick to only getting 3 stocked or nearly winning.

I am hopeful that after another semester I will have finally gotten to the level of everyone else. I think it is entirely possible for us Ace.

Next semester will be interesting. I got a ton of horrible class times which makes finding time to smash difficult.

Next smester is the complete opposite for me. This semester I had 5 classes and a job and never had any time. Next semester I'm going to only have 4 classes and I usually only work one night a week, so I should be able to go to some smashfests and hopefully win a singles set in a tournament...

The only time I've ever gotten to play anyone better than me was RoW.
I went from being 4 to 3 stocked over the course of RoW and took a set off sync (CP and thumb johns withstanding, haha). Not that anyone was playing me seriously, but still, haha.
Hopefully with Sync and Quaz in town I'll get to 2 stocks. And then - the world.

Well, most of my classes are in the morning, then they are spread out throughout the rest of the day. So, 7:45am classes on Tues/Thurs. 8:50am classes on Mon/Wed/Fri. Then, I have a lab at 7pm-10pm on weds night and class until 5:30pm on tuesday/thursday. So, I find it hard to justify spending until 2am playing smash only to wake up 5-6 hours later and had no chance to get homework done. I'll probably calling everyone a lot on weekends to find out if anyone wants to hang out lol

its gonna be fun playing you guys more often thats for sure.

peach is my main and all, and I'll still probably use her for tourneys, but I still dont feel good enough to handle certain matchups. I feel like I've hit a pretty hard wall. I'm gonna work on other characters for the time being, it might help freshen up my peach a bit too. I've been really loving marth, fox, falco, and a lot of falcon too.

HYYYYYYYYYYPE SYNC!
I've been practicing the stuff you told me to. I feel a heck of a lot better but probably still suck, haha.
If you still get owned, it's probably because you're starting to play more like the pros I play all the time. It's just like how Tapion was still kicking my *** after 3 months of monotonous tech skill practice - I was clearly better, but now much more familiar to a high-level tourney player. That and I had no mindgames whatsoever lol.

Awesome, great news sync! We should smash at your place before smashing grounds next month.
Mundungu...you are free to stay at our place anytime, take anything from the fridge, and bring over any produce-related xbox games you want!

Ah, well that explains why I do neither.

loooooooooooooooooool
Ohhh...sick burn. Well with all the Peach practice I'll finally be getting back (and the fact that I'm NOT playing only people "worse" than me, heh), I should start owning up on our dear Floridian ambassador.

I call official teammate with Quaz! What's our team name again? We decided on it in the car but I forgot what it is =/ And yeah, I'll be working on Fox, Falco, Peach, and Marth. Maybe Doc too so the Milwaukeers can get a spikey sample.

Attention Sink
Today at work I shot a staple all the way into my left thumb pad. So no more thumb johns when we play each other.

yeah I thought of sync immediately so I started cracking up as I pulled the staple out. The customer that saw me do it gave me the most confused look I've seen in a while.
@john: Sync said he cut his thumb opening a soup can, so I'm confused.
anyway, I'm leaving for home tomorrow so I'll see you guys in a month.

Sync only opens soup cans by throwing razor sharp saw blades at high speed from a distance. just to be safe.

my understanding is that sync cut his thumb throwing a soup can lid through the air like a frisbee, supposedly as a form of entertainment

if that's not the case, then i apologize sync, hope you get better soon

if that is the case, LOL NO JOHNS SON

Attention Wisconsin: Screw tech skill. It means nothing if you can't capitalize from it or space it correctly.
Its ugly if you can't space it correctly.

Start noticing players that do the same thing, over and over. like rolling, or how they recover.

Yes, double lazor, shine looks really cool, but if that CERTAIN player can't space themselves from getting grabbed, then it means nothing!

oh, and stop SPOTDODGING AND ROLLING. use an attack instead, like shine or jab, it doesn't work in higher play. SERIOUSLY: if you roll away, okay nothing happens or you get punished, hard! if you attack, then you have a better chance in defending yourself.

Please wisconsin! some one 4 stock my falco, marth, as I know half the **** that I do should get punished!

It has already been an interesting final month for the year xD

3 more hours until freedom!

Ouch... I have known many people with finger related injuries. Culver now makes the 2nd person I know who put a staple through their finger. One person shot a nail into a hunk of wood, it hit a knot in the wood bending it 90 degrees and went through their finger. Then you have Sync with the can. I myself had issues with a cutting board.

Protect your digits!

Alright Sanchaz, I want to play you more often next semester.

I'm just gonna let the story go and see how convoluted it gets. Dairy Queen...your John-canceling makes your Falco that much more technicaaal!

yeah tech skill is the only skill you need. How could it be scientifically possible for me to lose if I keep pushing buttons?

No worries Genkaku, we'll play as soon as you return.

Sync and I are 95% sure we're gonna get the appartment and move in January 2nd. we will most likely have our first smashfest sometime that week (or the weekend after we move).

To get an idea on the location, we'll be a few miles south of 894 (the part where it runs east and west).

You're not quite that close, but it is close enough that I'll come pick you up if you ever wanna play. The smashfest will probably be the Sunday after New Year's (so the 2nd). The address is 4955 S Greenbrook Terr, Greenfield, WI, or just type in "Greenbrook Apartments" on gmaps or bing or w/e

So yeah, ATTENTION SMASHERS
The first QUINKFEST will be on Jan 2nd, 2011!!! At the aformentioned address. Room for five or so people to stay the night, overnight parking in the visitor lot, etc.!!
