Don't let the argument get too far out of hand or this thread will be locked. Kikwi already warned you guys not to insult each other. Let's get back to talking about SSE related topics and not Pokemon slavery and Power Rangers.

In addition, it's ok to have contrasting opinions than others. Just be careful how you present and defend them. If you disagree, don't devolve to baseless name calling and insulting ones intelligence.

Any further offenses will result in warnings and closing of this thread.

Thank you for this. Baseless namecalling and accusations don't further a debate

I liked Subspace Emissary a lot... I remember how ticked off I was that it didn't get nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars when it was the most epic thing since sliced bread. Those snobs...

But I understand that not everyone likes it and we know that Smash for 3DS and Wii U will not have the same kind of story mode.

So I propose a compromise for the story mode: the villain is a surviving Primid who wants to resurrect Tabuu and bring about Subspace Emissary 2. The playable characters must stop him. Or, if you want more variety, you can split them into opposing factions. The newcomers (and returning Melee vets) want SSE2 so they can have a chance to be badass. The Brawl vets want to stop it so they don't have to go through that crap all over again.

In this way, the SSE fans can enjoy the storyline and the nonfans can take pleasure in stopping SSE2. Everyone wins! :)

SSE I liked the cutscenes were great. Great Maze can go die I never want to see it.again. I only liked the bosses really. They were fun to fight (**** Duon) And because it had an awesome boss battle theme. But whatever. Its better to stick with something that actually has Nintendo related levels for single-player.

If you're playing a fighting game for the single player, you're definitely not getting the bigger experience of the game. If you want a strong single player, there are plenty of other genres to explore.
I'm highly anti-this mindset.

90% of the time I've played Smash has been on my own. Oftentimes just me vs CPU in the multiplayer mode but that's just because I dislike being around people. I don't need SSE, but I'd like another like Melee's adventure mode which is just glorious.

..And that's coming from someone who generally prefers Brawl as a game. I feel like the only lacking features from it were Roy and Adventure. SSE was kinda cool the first time and yar, the cutscenes were great, but I could easily live without it

Did you watch Pokemon: The First Movie? And the Pokemon slavery argument has been debunked to hell and over, people don't 'enslave; Pokemon as you claim.
Luigi has gotten quite a bit of character development along Luigi's Mansion 1&2 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, when we're LITERALLY SHOWN WHAT DRIVES HIM AND WHAT TROUBLES HIM THE MOST.
Many theories have been made about Bowser's motive, and some part of his motives were cleared up on Super Mario Sunshine, hinting at the fact that the Koopaling's and Bowser Jr.'s mother is dead and Bowser probably wants to kidnap Peach and marry her so that his children can have a mother.

...also, since you mentioned Skyrim...PLEASE TELL ME HOW AWESOME OF A VILLAIN ALDUIN IS, OR HOW THE DRAGONBORN'S MOTIVATED BY ANYTHING OTHER THAN "THE PROPHECY!".

The thing is that Nintendo often gives some good development and personality to underdeveloped characters in certain games, and that makes them very memorable...also, you're not trying to deny my Power Rangers argument because you know I'm right, there's nothing like your childhood heroes teaming up and fighting evil all together.
Skyrim is considered one of the weakest stories, Anywho alduin is a funny story because within TWES lore pretty much everything is controlled by the daedric leaders/gods even the "good" and Nordic gods are actually the daedric gods screwing around with the humans (so the church attempts to wipe out the daedric gods to make their own gods happy, are funny because they're essentially one and the same..) And alduin in particular is acting out the old ways against the new when really they both are the will of the daedric gods (albeit different gods) who are screwing with each other, yet he thinks he's doing something important.

As for Pokemon slavery I didn't say they were slaves just second class citizens, which lets be honest they're treated like poop compared to humans.

And bowser's story doesn't make sense out of grief for his wife he kidnaps a woman (ruining a potential family) simply because he can't be a single parent? :)

I'm not here to argue Nintendo stories thougb :) I enjoy the games they're casual fun little stories that drive good games, what I'm getting at (or at least trying to) is that the stories aren't good enough to warrant giving up gameplay (or disc space)

Also I didn't like power rangers as a kid and I'm pretty sure that excitement you get is more a nostalgic thing than it Is a "this is an amazing story!!"

You, me and almost everyone knows that Smash is 50% nostalgia.

WRONG. Everyone knows Smash is 100% nostalgia. No exceptions. Even the gameplay itself has become nostalgic, which makes sense since it's been around for 15 years.

Just thought I would drop in to insert my two cents.

Yes, the Subspace Emissary did have it's main merits in its cinematics to display some character interaction and some badass moments in both the story and character abilities (the Donkey/Diddy intro cutscene, Samus and Pikachu's standoff against the Varia Suits and R.O.B.s, Captain Falcon knocking over a giant R.O.B. with a FALCON PAAAWNCH). That's some Brawl did and will only provide us; an epic sense of crossover action in an extremely lackluster setting. I enjoyed the Subspace Emissary for what it was. It gave me something else to do and was a quicker way to unlock the roster.

However, all those resources devs had to put into those cutscenes, levels, environmental assets, etc., did pile up a lot of unnecessary space on the disc, which Sakurai and his team will not do this time because Smash 4's direction will be to refine and enhance the gameplay. He also did this for a rather strange reason because people would upload the cutscenes on YouTube, Nico Nico Douga, etc., and that ruins the immersion of the story. Others in this thread pretty much summed up how bad the gameplay, structure, story elements, and its chore-like nature served Subspace Emissary. This cut is definitely not due to the state of the Wii U. It's Sakurai's creative direction.

Also, on an anecdote, people really need to stop with the whole "childhood heroes" stuff. Yes, Smash Bros. has a lot of nostalgic value that we all love and I'm not taking away from that. But how some are carrying this term around sounds a bit demeaning to those Nintendo characters we love. They aren't cheap, immature pick-me-ups. They belong in there own setting and I won't abandon them as I get older. I don't care about some trite marketing or sociology bull**** when it comes to this.

The cutscenes can happen without a story mode. I would be all for unlockable little clips showing the characters interacting.
I'd love to see something like Sonic Unleashed's unlockable cinematics, quirky situations with the characters interacting together, like Sonic and Mario playing SSB64 or something...I mean, they're not saving the ****ing universe, but it's still something.

Sakurai mentioned having the newcomer trailers available for viewing in the full game, unlockable or not. Just hope that how they implement it isn't invasive with seeing the WARNING! - CHALLENGER APPROACHING! banner and going straight to battle. Maybe they can implement the trailers in a way that makes them transition into battle.

I seriously don't care about 'interrupting' the gameplay, I'm just imagining the ending of Kirby's story taking place in Rainbow Rod againist Rosalina or something...now that I think about it, little trailer-esque snippets for "challenger approaching" screens would be the most awesome thing ever.

I really don't see how an amazing cutscene that keeps you at the edge of your seat can be considered 'interrupting'.

Also, Wonderful 101 was going to be a sort of story-based, single player Super Smash beat-em-up at some point.

I think they'll make them like the Snake and Sonic videos in Brawl: unlockable when the character is and viewable in a separate menu.

In all honesty, I'd be very surprised if we didn't get any references or nods to SSE in the new Smash. Like it or not, it is a significant part of Smash history.
