No "Go back to Brawl" option. How could you?

No "Go back to Smash 64" option?! Okay, you're officially "that guy."

Yeah, you know the one. You go to the bar and he's all like "Yeah, this suit is officially a Giorgio Armani, my dad knows him" and FORGET YOU!

I aaaaaaaain't havin' that crap!

TotallyOriginalAndNotStolenJoke
Why would anybody want to go back to Brawl? The only reason people go back to melee is because competitive, and Brawl wasn't very competitive, so what's the point?

SSB4 looks to be better than Brawl in a lot of ways and is looking to have MOST of the characters Brawl had. So, I don't know if you are just trying to seek attention, or what.

Play SSB64 whenever you want, not asking about that.

Maybe because I like Brawl more than Melee?

From your point of view, Brawl is not an option. From MY point of view, Melee is not an option.

I'm seeking attention? Wow, I don't recall giving an honest opinion being "attention seeking." According to what I picked on your lacking poll, I will stick with SSB4 regardless.

If I truly ended up not liking SSB4, which I highly doubt will happen, I'd go back to Brawl before I ever went to Melee. Surely, that doesn't that bother you?

You can still play for fun. Granted, my personality implies I'm a potentially hot-headed competitive player, but that doesn't mean I can't have a bit of fun, even though I don't have much of it. Besides, a Playable Palutena, a buffed up Pit, and no random tripping alone already makes me want to play no matter what.

I'll keep playing it. As far as I'm concerned every Smash Bros. game is competitive, so Smash 4 being non-competitive is a longshot. That said, it's Smash Bros. It doesn't need to be competitive to be fun, and all Smash Bros. games are fun.

I prefer you said the option "I'll just keep playing, causal or not" because not everyone is going to play it too seriously nor too causally. But from what I learned from Brawl, I wouldn't cry a river if it didn't turn out for the better.

I would just keep playing the game. The competitive scene for Smash is irrelevant to me, and it doesn't seem like Sakurai himself has much interest in supporting the competitive scene.

I'll keep playing. I love wavedashing, L-cancelling, etc. as much as the next guy, but they aren't really necessary for me to enjoy Smash. There's so much more to the series than 1v1s on tourney legal stages. The modes, stages, characters, collectibles, challenges/achievements, and music all go a long way to making each game a better experience, and these new games look the best in those regards.

The new modes, such as Smash Run, Trophy Rush, and Target Blast, look super-fun to play, old modes look significantly better (Classic Mode has never looked so fun), the stage selection is top-notch, the character roster is amazing (Little Mac and Pac-Man were my most wanted additions for this game), trophies look fun to get for a change, and the soundtrack is GOD-TIER so far.

I'll be satisfied with this game even if it's complete and utter GARBAGE competitively, because, like I said, there's more to this series than that.

That's funny because hes removed tripping, increased the speed and said he's trying to balance the game to be a middle point between melee and brawl.

I still enjoyed Brawl so I think I will enjoy SSB4. I only watch competitive play, I don't care to enter it.

What was said above. And even then everyone of the prior games is competitively viable in their own unique ways. Melee isn't the only option.

To be honest I actually don't care about the competitive scene so I will play smash 4 for a long time.

Go back to melee for a bit as I do still want to beat my friends and get better. Then eventually quit smash alltogether.

It clearly won't be the game for me anymore. Maybe I'll get into other fighting games, buy a legit fightstick and try to get better at that. There are plenty of options obviously, just gotta figure out which ones I like best. Sort of like how paper mario is no longer a game for me ): Thanks Super Paper mario disappointment and then sticker star.
Super Paper Mario is amazing, just throwing that out here. Of course I'll continue to play! I'll obviously still play Project M from time to time if they don't end up botching the game pure Melee style with their nerfing recoveries bull, which I'm pretty sure they will, so Smash4 will probably be my main game.
I'll play it, and I'll love it. One of my favorite developers is working on one of my favorite franchises which has my favorite characters and my favorite way to play it (GC control) is supported.

There won't be tripping, there is primordial tech being felt out, and the roster(for me) is the strongest one yet if you can forgive the Fire Emblem straddling. I'll have fun with it, we all will. I guess the real question is whether it can retain a big enough scene to keep it around. Even a fraction of Melee's longevity would be fantastic, but that's really gonna be up to the final product.
You mean the highly-requested characters from an amazing game that deserved repping? "Straddling"

As a man who completely ignores the competitive aspect of every single videogame he plays, I'll just keep having fun with it.

I'll keep playing other smash games if it sucks. I'm not expecting smash 4 to be a great competitive game i want it to be one. It is a extention of brawl so i know what to expect. I'm not like brawl fans and gonna keep playing something if it sucks because it is new.

I don't care too much how competitive it is. That said, I didn't really enjoy Brawl anyway and dropped it pretty quickly. Hopefully SSB4 will be more fun.

I can play fighters at a semi-competitive level but ironically I never compete nor wish to.

So if is comes to pass, I'll just keep playing :)

Just a heads-up, there is a 100% chance that at least half the community will declare this to be an uncompetitive crap game within 1 day of the game being out, long before anyone has any idea what the metagame looks like. Heck, most of them have done it already.

Change the first option to "I'd still play it because I enjoy Smash Bros and I couldn't give a damn whether it's competitive or not"

Can we seriously just sticky one topic labeled "Competitive Discussion" so this topic doesn't have to ruin every single thread people post?

Fails competitively? Hahaha- oh, your serious. In the super extremely unlikely not-gonna-happen scenario, hopefully the online play will be good enough I can just play decent players who still like it through that.

Where's the "I'll keep playing it regardless" option? Flaws don't have to be serious for it to fail competitively.

It's Smash. It'll be fun one way or another.

I like it now but I'm just adressing a problem me and some friends have. We're fine now though :p. Oh and straddling is my PG way of saying ****riding.

Not saying it will, just wondering what you guys will do if it does...

What will you do?

Keep playing it?

Go back to melee?

Go back to PM?

Quit?

or

Still play it with flaws

---

Thoughts?
Because I have never played Smash before I am none the wiser. But if there were noticable op characters I may drop it.

you are avoiding adding answers to the poll that you personally don't like

this is biased

Of course the poll will be biased towards melee and project M games because they are the most competitive at the moment, this thread is asking what will you do if it fails competitively not if it fails to be fun.

I'm just hoping the competitive scene lasts because it's online and more accessible. Hopefully patches will be used too which could aid it.

So I haven't read this thread completely because, to me, this thread is the equivalent to the dirt under fingernails.

But what I want to ask is a hypothetical: Where the hell are the threads like, "What if Smash 4 is a smashing success competitively?" I want one of those threads. Because all I see is an endless stream of pessimism and it has drove me away from this subforum, honestly.

Because there have been many more people than you that have been in many threads over the last month that failed to prove that Melee was more competitive than Brawl. There are also people telling you that going back to Brawl is what they would do. That means that no matter what your opinion is, that option exists so it should exist on the poll.

I highly doubt this game won't be competitive. But if it's not competitive for some reason then I'll still play it along with every other smash game as long as it's not Super Smash Flash 2.

I picked "quit Smash entirely". Melee's fanbase is too embarrassing and hostile to go back there, and PM, while a good game, will still reek of being outdated in Smash 4's shadow. And I can't play Smash 4 casually because I'd never be able to live it down.

So yeah. If Smash 4 fails, I might occasionally touch Super Smash Flash 2, but I'd mostly retire from the series as a whole.

Not gonna buy wii u smash then. Won't care to play it on my 3DS.

That said... I'm optimistic for it to be better than brawl. But if there is another metaknight fiasco i'm done.
