After playing it recently, Link's Awakening is probably my least favorite Zelda game. This is coming from someone who loved Skyward Sword.
I found it to be a rehashed A Link to the Past with a lot of the same items, enemies, etc. but not nearly as good.
A major issue with the game is the lack of buttons, meaning certain basic functions have to made into items, meaning you have to swap items [constantly] in Link's Awakening, like the entire game was the N64 version of the Water Temple.
The music, even for a GB game, is pretty grating. Especially if, god forbid, you get one of those powerups, which plays an unremarkable 10-second loop forever as long as you avoid damage. I found myself exiting dungeons and ramming into enemies just to get away from that music.
The geography of the map and travelling is painfully inconvenient. Whether it's random dead ends, places that require you to swap items on the spot to move a single block, and sometimes a combination of the two, this game's map is just a ***** to navigate. Not to mention you never get a true means of fast travel, so these issues can never be avoided.
The game is just annoying. You have to listen to a whole paragraph of text every time you just graze an object you can't interact with without an item. This seems like a minor complaint, but it actually becomes a really annoying issue. Especially when you HAVE that item equipped.
This may be just me so I'll tack it on the end, but some of the puzzle solutions make no sense. I never would have figured some of them out without a walkthrough.
