#1 some sort of reliable smashs that can end the opponement
#2 has some sort of potential (i don't like playing a char that has no chance of beating pros)
#3 Good range
#4 Decent speed
#5 looks cool

Thats why i play marth

-Different Kinds of Recovers
-Ranged Attacks
-Normal Weight
-Annoying Attacks
-Finishing Move.
-Speed
-Wave Dash

A second chanse of Recovery when your secondary jump is gone, so Link Dash Dance to Air Dodge to Chain works awesomely, and if your to far away to recover, Bomb, throw up, Up-b. The second thing is any range at all which fits link very well, and his weight is in a medium, atleast you can DI at a few moves on high percentages. Annoying attack? Nair. Finishing Moves is the best in my opinion thats why i picked Link, i mean Up-B is so great. And it's going to get even bettre in the next game. The sad part about Link is his Speed, but his wavedash is kind of effective even if it doesnt have that great range you want in wavedash but it's really quick.

1. Must have a good, fast f-air
2. D-air being decent, especially as a kill move is a plus.

My favorite characters are (in order): Sheik, Luigi, Captain Falcon, Marth

Just a question- are Projectiles a selling point for any of you? After all they afford free damage, more range obviously and a bit of an advantage but does this matter or is play too fast paced for them?

They must have a fun style,
Projectiles that can cause undo irritation to your opponents and set up for good combos.

They have to be associated with the Triforce of Wisdom or the Triforce of Courage.
Really though I base my mains off characters that are my favorite in general. Though sometime i'll use them if their fun to use or appeal to me.

They must be:

-able to win on a competitive level
-fast
-able to abuse certain tactics
-good at edgeguarding
-good at comboing

Failing these, they must be fun to play with.

Well Samus' smashed missiles work, as well as her D-Air and her Charge Shot. Her B-Air is pretty strong as well.
Oh, they're all fine once your opponent is in the upper percents, but they aren't for gimp kills by any means.

Also, I've almost never seen a super missile kill under 150%

My Opinion for a character to be your MAIN.. it mostly depends on if your comfortable with that character and if you can adjust to that character's moves
