I think the recent posts on this thread have eventually sorted out my direction with smash. For a while now I have been debating whether to host SNY2 aswell as remain active within the melee community. I have always focused upon the merits of using melee as a vehicle to befriend people and the ability to first socialise and then play the game. However, recently I have noticed active members of the community (at large) don't hold this similar attitude.

This, rather limp, thread is evidence and justification of my feelings.

I am, eventually and thankfully, done with smash.

LOL This post seems like it was partially aimed at my post with me saying that I would rather get host by Yeniths because I would be playing smash afterwards.

Well it's true I would, I go to smash tournaments to play smash, not to fully be social, but it's not like anyone at events is extremely unsocial, i'm always talking to people and have fun with them but the majority of people in the smash community play smash and be a bit social, that's just how it is.

Plus tbh, I PERSONALLY get along a lot better outside of smash with my crew OoC since we share similar interests and all click really well with each other, no offence to other people but that's just how the world naturally is, you just naturally get along with certain people so consciously or subconsciously you just would prefer dedicating more personal time with them...plus I don't know GAWes and have never met or seen him, so going to a get together for him wouldn't be as fun as me just chilling with Yeniths and playing smash and having fun.

Either way it's not like anyone is sitting there quiet not doing anything in the smash community, you always get people in the scene who are willing to join on the more social stuff and people who aren't....but I don't really think you should cut off SNY2 for the sake of a few people not being social, because there are still people who put the social side over smash....but unless it's my crew i'm personally not one of them.

You better not be referring to me as an idiot just because I choose to play a game more then be social within a gaming community.....

I just personally prefer hanging out with OoC.
As you like hanging out with Dave Gays and Tesco Crew likes hanging out with Tesco Crew.
But this doesn't mean i'm going to be anti-social at events, i'm just going to carry on as I have been.

Is there even much of an arguement that can be formed on this subject lol....

Either way I really hope Kone still does SNY2, since the last one was really fun and everyone enjoyed themselves with the experience of meeting all the Europeans and plus Faab and Zgetto are really funny together and I want to destroy them lol.

Ed- The problem is when you say you're going to host a melee tournament, for some bizare reason people tend to think that the point of it is to have a melee tournament. I think if prof (or whoever) would have known you better then they'd be up for going out to see some friends but as a smasher the main reason is to play smash.

SNY1 was still a really good tournament and you're still a really good host, which I think a fair amount of people will admit but sometimes I can't understand why you host events. You say to meet up with your friends but do you really need a smash tournament to meet up with your old mates?

This is a rather bemusing post. I haven't hosted any tournaments, except SNY1, in over two years (potentially three?) :s. SNY1 was more of a long term ambition and challenge for myself, as, from the start of being involved in the melee community I have always wanted to host a large European tournament. Moving to Birmingham give me the ability to finally fulfull that.

Do you think that in three years that I have not (outside of SNY) hosted tournaments I haven't seen any of my 'old friends' that I have made through this game? Don't be daft Ben, of course I have., I see them AS FRIENDS; not smashers. I regularly meet up with people and spend money and time travelling to see them all around the UK.

My point was (for you again Ben) that this isn't the community that it used to be. It used to be somewhere that I could enjoy a hobby AND make friends. You don't have to go to smash events to just play smash Ben. I just don't see my involement in this community leading to the friendships I have made previously. This, obviously, can due to alot of factors (and I am aware many are changes within me).

My post wasn't in reference to Aaron. I don't have anything to do with him.

I was down the pub last night with Kate and we started to discuss SNY2. Our discussion resolved on my lack of enthusiasm for hosting it and the necessity of me deciding to go ahead with it soon (in order to open signups). Kate basically asked me to justify why I would host it. I couldn't. For the reason I posted.

I just referred to recent-ish posts in this thread as an example of why I am not hosting SNY2 or being involved in smash tournaments anymore.

As you said Ben; I don't need to host smash tournaments to see old friends lol

Thats my point, of course you don't need to host tournaments to see old friends which is why I get confused sometimes as to why you still host things like SNY. You don't seem too arsed about playing melee and you can meet up with some old friends, but you'd have to sort out about a hundred different things at the same time. Do you just really enjoy hosting? Either way I think it's fine if you don't want to host if you're not enjoying it anymore- thats just common sense anyway, I just don't get why you bother with the community aside from seeing some friends that you can just see anyway.

Re-read my post. If you still don't get it Ben re-read it again.

Also, on the hosting side of things, I am a teacher? Hosting a tournament is so much like my job (which I enjoy). Need I say more?

Does this mean BTW Kone that you're not coming to this tournament either?

I think people are just annoyed cos they made time for SNY2, all of OoC booked time off of work for it already and so did a few Europeans so it's gay to know a big event which gained American interest and also had high hopes for Europe is not happening.

Yep, time to get some free money and **** people lol :)

Who's actually going to this, new people wise because obviously it's a new area and Hao who I haven't seen since GGT2 (2007/8ish I think lol) is gonna be there but that's the only new/uncommon person I really know is gonna be there lol.

And also I just realized that SNY2 would have been the first European Tournament in years with a few of the Top Americans Players coming to it, since in the past I think it's been mediocre players, would have been funny to see Hungrybox since he's been falling lately, I would have beat him obv obv.

All the best though and I still might talk to you sometime about teaching stuff as I'm still trying to get on a PGCE

Yeniths- could you house me as well for this? I definitely be coming if you can

Prof: I was never going to this event in the first place. I didn't go to the previous one. Its 6 months away. They can re-coup their holidays and use them elsewhere. It isn't like they are getting a week's notice.

Ben: No problem. You are more than welcome to talk to me anytime regarding teaching. Ill give you as much help as I can. If you are looking at Primary I can also get Kate to help you as she is a Primary teacher.

Ben I can house you. There is a spare room in my house right now, it's kinda big, got a double bed plus room on the floor, so you guys can sort out who gets the bed between you lol. Maybe Rock paper scissors tournament or something for it lol.

If you can please try and arrive same, or similar time to Prof Alex and Tam :) If you can't thats fine just may mean I'll give you directions via phone.

My place is around 45 mins on the train from Birmingham tho, It's like £5-6 return however. I think everyone is heading back sat night after the tourney so you will only have to do this once. Bus is around £1.80 and may need it twice, just warning you.

If you can arrive similar time to everyone else Taxi is like £6-8 so it will be cheaper and nicer for us to get that instead lol.

I have a small co op near me so that's nice but we could order food or just get something from there.

I think everyone arrives Friday and goes back Saturday from Birmingham :)

Ohh and I can supply you guys with like a infinite amount of noodles if u want them lol

And Ed :(

And LOL at J3lys post before he edited it :p

Fair enough, I thought you were going since you were willing to house people for this but fair enough lol.

edit - long for arguments, prof sux etc etc
Maybe on your death bed which is in about 2 months you can tell me what this was going to say.

I'll of course be bringing a setup. Also, I wouldn't mind to play a bit of brawl while I'm down if people like dopl will be there.

Tam- I have a pre-made deck (the ones that you can buy and are old tournament decks)that I'll bring as well if your bringing any of yours :)

Yeah I'm just hoping my R4 cartridge comes from Hong Kong in time for this, otherwise imma have to use my lame HGSS team

But yeah, I'm bringing my DS, laptop and cards, dunno if I can fit a cube tbh but even 1 setup would be good tbh, should be plenty for the other two not on a setup to do.

Also remember we gotta mm luxchomp gdos george :)

Ben: Sure thing man, I'll help you out with your deck too, or at least the strategy since it's a tournament deck. Which one is it btw?
