Wavedashing in Brawl? -- New info

Mark Bozon of IGN got to play the Brawl demo, and later made a Q&A thread on the IGN boards.
Just played again:

You CAN get more than one Smash Ball per level; the whole "one per match" must have been BS. For Samus you use that to change to/from Zero suit. I just played and had 4 show up in one fight.

L-catch works. Wavedash hasn't yet... on Wiimote it'd be a pain in the ***, but it might still work with Classic Controller. We tried for a few seconds (multiple players) and couldn't get it.

Out again.
I don't know how reliable he is, but at least he's trying. Does anyone else have any information about WDing in Brawl?

Nice to know SOMEONES Trying...........Yay :)

ALSO....

I saw Mario's Air Dodge in a 7min video that gamespot has, and it looked like he was going diagonally upwards onto the stage so maybe there is directional air dodging afterall

Yeah. I agree there are a lot of opinions and threads on WDing in Brawl. Only time will tell actually and people will just have to be patient.

And then 2 threads saying "Stop Making Complaint Topics!", right?

Seriously, from all of the videos I've seen on Brawl, I really don't care if wavedashing will make a return or not. There seems to be a lot of functions that can easily replace wavedashing; so if it's in or not, I'm ultra happy!

Thanks for that info Mic. (and same to this threads starter) Heres to hoping Wavedashing is in Brawl, but I doubt it's not. If waveland is there, wavedashing is. :)

and good to see IGN isn't totally n00by. Good to know they're somewhat connected with us more dedicated smashers! :)

And it will be intresting to see the SWF and broomer's staffs thoughts. Too bad the NPC was in San Francisco and I didn't know! If only I knew, and it wasn't basically a press-only event. :(

Did he just imply that ZSS's final smash results in her becoming Samus?

also, can we at least confirm air-dodging before we find out about WDing?

@maxpower: Sakurai knows that some willplay with smash balls off. He wouldn;t imprison an entire character with a unique moveset behind an itme that can be disabled. You'll be able to choose ZZS to start a match

This is keeping me on edge. All of the news is hitting me at once, I am still trying to process some of it. The majority of the lag is from a test and a mid-term today and the rest is from the minor depression of the release date being in freaking February. Right now I am glued to my computer to see if new news is coming in the light. There is little left if any at all, but I will have to wait for others to discover the secrets from another coast of the US.

On topic: Maybe they delayed Brawl to put wave-dashing in...

Of course Airdodging is confirmed, there's a picture of Pikachu doing it in the first picture of the very first Dojo update.

I'm just f*cking shocked that we don't have a confirmation yet. I mean, we have tons of videos and tons of people player. At least a few of them HAD to have tried it.

Oh well... I guess we'll have to wait for E for All.

The hardcore Smash community =/= everyone who plays Smash. Hell, it's not even 1%. Most of the people who played the demos today (the press) probably don't even know what wavedashing is.

Look at it from an outside in perspective, not an inside out.

Yeah, that's actually usually how I preach it, too.

Either way... I just need to know. I Wavedash a LOT and need to know if I'm going to have to develop brand new strategies. =P

Its gone. Soon you will all realize that it was a glitch.

If your going to flame me, I suggest you think out your posts, because unlike alot of the people here, I WILL bite back.

I hope it's out. Wavedashing is cheap. It's like snaking in Mario Kart.
(Yes I will be flamed for this but who cares)

lol

l-canceling was a glitch in ssb my friend

it was intentionally kept in melee

and intentionally kept in brawl

Either Nintendo doesn't know about it and they'll keep it because it goes hand-in-hand with the air dodge, or Nintendo knows about it and they'll keep it intentionally.

No...I WD and it's not even that important. It just looks cool and it's used to show off after a stock. SHFFL'ing is much more important.

It's not a glitch. It's a combination of airdodging and variable character traction physics. It's existance was acknowledged by the game designers. Bite back?

personally, i think WDing is one of the ugliest things i've ever seen in a video game and i find that it breaks the 4th wall for me.

here's hoping it's gone.

whether it stays or goes, a lot of people will be happy and a lot of people will complain, either way. it's a very divisive issue.

i also sorta hope it's gone just to make the whole WD controversy disappear.

*edit* in before flamewar. ;)

Not at all. Snaking makes you significantly better at the goal of the game, moving forward. If your playing a good snaker, and your a casual player you won't win. Wavedashing is not over powered or anything. They really aren't comparable at all.

As opposed to what, them denying it? Link me to one place where the devs said they put it there intentionally. It's obviously a glitch that it be used in the ways it is(i.e. high-speed travel, smashes while moving).

Agreed with this post and you can clearly see the characters move a physics breaking speeds with graphical twitching.

It is my opinion that the IGN people who tested it probably had a hard time with the different forms of control or weren't that good at wavedashing in the first place=p

hopefully there's a way to use gamecube controllers for a proper test.

if they eliminated wavedashing they would have needed to do something drastic with the physics, making everyone have unbelievable traction, or no diagonal air didge, which is ********. I don't see how it can't be in.

Boooo. Take this arguement outside. I will most likely be going to this topic to hear about Wavedashing experiences from SWF members, and you people mucking it up is distracting.

We've had this debate thousands of times already. Wavedashers (and Snakers :)) always win. Stop trying to debate this, nooblets. Just throw a hissy fit and say you dont like wavedashing just because you dont like it. It's not broken, it's not cheap, its only flaw is the player himself.

Oh Zek, please go link a place where the devs said they put Mario's fire ball attack intentionally. Cant? Because there's no magical Smash-dev Wikipedia where you can find these things.

This is a debate wavedashers have won every single time. :/

Can anyone post a link to Bozon's Q&A please? I'd like to see what else he said but I don't see it on the boards at IGN. Thanks!

According to many people's definition of a "glitch", almost everything we do counts as one since "the creators never intended it". I could care less what is and isn't a glitch. It is more important to filter out anything that is broken.

Salaad, wavedashing is very important in particular circumstances. Do none of you people use wavedash-2-edge-hog? No wonder it seems "worthless" to you.

by the sonic vids in the fight versus link, sonic appears to be low traction (slides off level and grabs ledge) and has a known air dodge. Looks like he might be a good one to test it with. By the looks of it, wavedashing is thankfully here to stay
