I hate getting numbers like 69, 79 and 89.

Almost getting a 69 in life might not help you to actually get it. Must try harder and show them your moves while your at it. :p

Corps is way to smart. I gave him some algebra equations and he did them straight away which amazed me. Also talking about algebra the exam hardly had enough algebra in it which was sorta :/. I was expecting it to be more and alittle hard this was way to straight forward. For some reason i always do good on the hard questions then stuff up on the simple questions.

My Chemistry exam they said it will be all on structure of an atom and drawing atoms and electrons and all that. Then in the exam it was filled with random stuff we never came across but if you had some sort of common sense you should of understood most of them.

Just a random thought to me how did the perth scene start to be?

Alzi which part of the scene are you asking about_? Melee or Brawl_? Melee scene is at the start of the thread as Vlade said, Brawl scene i can tell you more about it's dastardly origins (in HD!)_

Vlade we know your half Japanese because you keep mentioning it_ Next time you ask i'm replying with 'NO WAY i only thought you looked half Japanese!'_ ;)

Technically if you want to see the start of the perth scene, dig up the old Aussie Smash thread and check the first few posts.

I just want to see how each person came in and who left and when the point came where i came in and so on. Well just so we can have a topic to talk about really :p

Also Vlade 100% in Japanese very nice score. Speaking of exams and all that i got my SAE exam back which had economics, law and politics and government in it and all that. I got 81% :D. Glad i got above 80% also for my overall score in SAE which is from all the test plus this exam i got:

68%.....

Just needed 1 more percent and i would of achieved 69%. :(

Bob i heard you like to bump people in mario kart with bowser want to have a few games on saturday or sunday.

80% of people do not realise my background, so I have trained myself to reiterate the fact.

If it's annoying please say so :)

Speaking of mario kart, I'm bored enough for some wifi matches well.... whenever. Anyone know if there's site that has the "effects" of each character? For example cranky kong (I think it is) has more top speed (or speed, can't remember the name of the skill, haven't played that game in many months) than any other character.

Your forgiven because your avatar frightens me sour_

Vlade it doesn't annoy me i'm just stirring you_

Mariokart is fun lately since i took up playing with the wiimote although i don't play it hardcore_ Would love to get a match going in some spare time_

Alzi in regards to your question i will give you my info of the Brawl scene and it's creation/ destruction and rebirth_

For me, it all began when i discovered Melee although far too late to join the scene, me and my now defunkt friends devoured the media coverage of Super Smash Bros Brawl_ Finally a chance to play a competitive game from it's beginning_ After the discovery of Smash Boards and it's eager Smash community, we decided to ship an American copy of Brawl with a freeloader to see how seriously or jokingly we could take it_ Myself and Cal (now ashes to ashes) among a couple of others, took to the game seriously and played it constantly under 'official tournament rules' from Melee days_

Being fortunate enough to have a fairly decent size of friends who were all capable players, we played Brawl to shreds, hoping for something to emerge in the now dormant Perth scene_ That hope arrived in the event of Mic holding a general gathering amongst anyone interested_ Unfortunately the only people who arrived other than the remaining Melee crew of Bringer, N1v and Mic himself, was me, Cal and Cals brother Matt_

This and the announcement of a Brawl tournament being held by Gametraders Perth gave us some vain hope of this game becoming more than a general past time_ To me Mic was a stepping stone into what is now a progressive and amazing Smash community, one which keeps me active purely for the love of its members_ But our story doesn't end there fellow readers, it only just begun_

Keeping in constant contact with Mic (moreso in the form of Cal rather than myself currently) and the booming presence of a 64man Brawl tournament happening at Gametraders gave me some spark of Perth developing a solid Brawl scene_ Gametraders was no less another stepping stone in the right direction, although the matches themselves were 4player freeforall with smashballs, the fact that 64 people arrived all with a keen interest in Brawl made me wonder_

Talking to excited fans and people who were generally creative and enthusiastic towards Brawl i asked a simple question_ 'Would you be interested in tournaments continuing and the creation of a Perth Smash scene?'_ Well i think you all know the answer or you would probably be watching porn, playing Halo or some other motley task rather than posting on these forums_ The result_? I proposed holding a tournament at my own home_ With 2 very suitable televisions, decent room sizes and the go ahead from everyone who lived there, we sparked up the very first PK Brawl to a fairly sizable success_

Not quite 64 people but about 16 - 24 of those people who participated at the Gametraders event arrived and competed for the first time under competitive tournament rules_ $5 a person, prize pool split 80%/ 20% and food/ drinks included_ I'd call it a minor success in terms of building a solid Perth scene_ Well it stayed solid for the next few months, with monthly tournament turnouts frequenting between 16 - 24 people and the development of a great Smash community with the help of Smash Boards_

Unfortunately for me, work called in the form of fly-in fly-out mining work and the tournament organization fell into Cals hands_ He organised and ran them without fail in my absence, but unfortunately the scene numbers began dwindling_ Andre (Muzga) offered to hold tournaments at his home to great relief and gratitude from myself and other active Smash scene members_

More to come_ Head hurting so badly_

Oh nice story bob can't wait to read the next episode as trav said lol. Intresting how it sorta started. I never played melee competitivly only with a cousin we use to play it once in awhile alond with double dash on the gamecube. Then i got brawl and vsed some people online and i realised some people who i vsed were really good then i realised it was competitive play lol. So i heard of this place and joined then didn't be actice for a few months then came back and only just realised there was a perth smash thread where people would hold tourneys and things like that.

Jupz do you remeber ages ago like last year on the track Mushroom Gorge a guy with a Australian flag who had a Mario mii and had a time of 1.44.885 on funky and the torpedo. Well that was me :p That was the only course i really time trialed on and i got a WR on it then that stupid glitch came up on the course just as i re-gained my title when i saw someone who had beaten me i spent about 2 hours time trialing then i beat his time and i check on the leader bords and i see 2 Japanese players with a time of 55 seconds i check the first reply and he was doing that glitch :(. Since then i haven't bothered to get better times on other courses and i don't race online with randoms only with friends so i don't loose my VR points :p.

And yes funky kong is like the metaknight in brawl lol. Although i use diddy kong on the mach bike when i play online funky is more for time trials.

To be honest I never really got into Mario Kart Wii or DS. I got both but didn't really play them that much :S

Double Dash I played to death because I used to have friends who liked it as well, I suppose I just haven't gotten round to using wifi :p

Heh Mario Kart DS, you used to go online, snakers would own you.. Then I learned to snake =D *hides in box*
Mario Kart Wii I never played as much, I mean on the second tournament, that being the topman one I like 8th, then I checked it the next day and was no where to be seen >>;, But I still play it for fun sometimes, Mii FTW
Still I wish I was around for the beginning of the Brawl scene, I remember I used to get bored beating my friends, so I went to a tournament Andre hosted at the end of September 08, I got owned, can't remember who by. I remember I lost in the losers bracket to some guys using Pokemon Trainer and Mario, then in loser to some Toon Link. I ended up not turning up for ages since everytime I was going to go I was sick or something, then turned up, and yeah. I WANT MORE OF BSRK_'s STORY!

Oh and welcome Randomness

I love snaking lol, I use daisy on the Egg1. I had a record of like 101-14 or something online lol :p Although I played it casually with my friends for a year before I got into it competively.

The best character/kart in MKDS was Dry Bones (he was the lightest, so you drive over off road faster) and either Dry Bomber or Egg1. Sam had like 5000 wins to like...... 200 loses or something. Since items have always been a factor in Mario Kart, I always liked to use the Dry Bones kart, its top speed and mini turbo skill were slightly less than Dry Bomber, but its item skill was a lot higher. :chuckle:

AGREED! I would prefer a glass of sweet fresh cold orange juice (real orange juice) any day :)
sorry to bring up old posts but youve said before that youve never drunk alcohol and never plan too. how do you know it tastes bad?

Baileys is an alcoholic drink which tastes like chocolate milk. there are plety of commercially "good tasting" alcoholic drinks out there. you cant just group it all together if you havent given any of it a chance.

Drinking brings about a physical sensation that people enjoy. when you drink excessively it causes liver damage but in small doses it tends to be harmless. im sure if you drunk enough orange juice you would eventually come across some issues somewhere along the line.

If youve only ever drunk beer and goon how can you seriously say that it all tastes bad?

You'll never guess who I used to use.

Yeah Muzga's right don't knock it 'till you try it. :) Baileys is really nice and easy to drink too. My mate drank some from his shoe pretending to be Old Greg :bee:

it dosent really matter which character... i just found daisy easiest. skill takes prevelance over the characters :p
I also remember each character in MKDS had their own "feel". I dont remember if Mario Kart Wii had different feels for each character. The "feel" effected the drifting or turning, can't remember which one, could've been both.

Nah but the difference between driving off road with someone like DK or Bowser and driving off road with Dry Bones, is massive.

You'll never guess who I used to use.
ZOMG was it Bowser!?!?

I remember when I first joined the perth brawl scene, I think it was the same time as Marty.

It was Andre's third tournament that he hosted I think, and there were about 20 people. It was awesome fun, and I just wanted more and more. I finished 4th at that tournament I think, mildly missing out on a free toblerone :p Unfortunately a lot of the cool guys I met that day left the scene - they disappeared without a trace. This includes Jonathon, Sam & Alex the twins, Eric and others.

After this, Perth struggled to get 12 people at a tournament. I remember that Andre hosted a tournament where only 8 people turned up :p It was all good fun anyway. All I wanted to do was to improve as much as I could since I was so much more passionate about the game back then - all I wanted to do was win (still do).

Then bob started hosting tournaments again, and I remember the first time I went to his house and meeting his awesome dogs :p It was still a small turnout, but it was all good fun and it was the first time I really talked to bob since the only other time I had seen him was at the first tournament niv hosted. Man, there's so many cool people I've met because of this game and you guys all know who you are.

So yeah, after bob hosted another tourney or 2 I got so much better, eventually placing 2nd whilst taking a set off Samuel in the Grand Final (even though he wasn't playing that well). It was the first time I had ever won money for something, even if it was only $7 which I immediately spent on pizza. That was the day when I knew I had improved a step up - I wonder when I'll get another one of these 'boosts' because they sure are satisfying :) Shaya helped me understand mindgames which is why I improved.

After this, I hosted my own tournament. It was the best turnout the perth scene had ever encountered as far as I'm aware. 31 people. It was great to meet a lot of new people including Jupz (Jason), Trav, Jono, Alzi (Alan, I'd already met Jono and Alzi once before) and others. This was also the first tournament that was held at a venue, which probably contributed to the increase of the turnout.

I'll continue this later, got to have dinner.
