U want people that play melee like people that pick up a controller and insert melee into a GameCube and push buttons or do you want people that are actually good?

There's like 3.

:phone:
Lololololololol, true dat.

I live on 13th east and S Temple, and I'm always down for some Melee. Just hit me up and hopefully my schedule will be free. 8012287211

sick. let's play tomorrow? I'm gunna be watching the SCR2013 livestream again in the afternoon but I'd be down to play from 10a-2p or something. We could play later and I could stream on my laptop while we smash if you wanted to also keep an eye out for some good marvel matches

I'm gunna googlemap 13th east and S temple and scope out the distance, I'll walk anything under 10 miles...I love taking walks. The German language has a word for leisure walks like that, called "spazieren". If it's much further than that I'll take the trax or something

I'll get ahold of you tomorrow around 10 if you haven't replied here because I don't wanna wake you up if you sleep late
anybody wanna come?
also we could play at my brother's apartment (he's gone for the weekend) but you gotta bring a CRT and a cube. and I couldn't fit more than 3 others besides myself, it's a humble abode

edit-yeah it's a 1 hour 3 mile walk according to google so I'm super down with that. we'll hash out details tomorrow if you're free

Yeah man, I know long walks, I once walked from my house all the way to Lanky's house, was like, 14 miles or something and took me a bit short of 5 hours. The worst part was the end cuz not only had I already been walking for a long time, but that incline on the way up the mountains in Draper is tiring as hell.

I hail from outside jacksonville, il. born and raised a redneck hillbilly on a farm. became a vegan atheist (now pantheist) to make my conservative folks extra proud. spent the last 3 years living in edwardsville, il (slightly northish of StL) while finishing school

Wow, I missed the majority of this conversation since I was at a Melee-fest from 5 PM to 4 AM at Buzz's, yesterday. If only you came here like a day or two earlier, then we could have made some arrangements to get you to come or something. I'm interested in what the level-of-skill comparison is like between you and myself (and compared to Utah's other top Melee players, as well).
I live roughly 10-15 minutes (driving) from your general location, so that's convenient. If Tane hosts another Smashfest at his place soon, and you go, I'll most likely come. Just got until next weekend, since I have a lot of homework and presentations due this upcoming week that I need to focus on starting now.

Sweet deal. I ask primarily because my wife grew up out there. Little town called Shelbyville. What did you end up studying?

In terms of smashing, I'm more of a brawler, Zelda main. If I play melee, I play Peach, though I'm probably no good competition now. elsewise you'll catch me in the DDR scene.

We can only pray that Smash 4 erases the wrongs invoked in Brawl.

There was nothing wrong with Zelda though, that's for sure. They have people from the team behind Tekken though, so balancing seems to be a priority

That crappy 2006 Utah/Idaho metagame... XD (Such strange counterpicks, too.)

Man...I sucked so much, then. I wasn't even needle canceling or using needles to turn around in the air...or even edge-guarding with them; such basic things...

obligatory utah scene sucks
but you already knew that
We really need to fix it, though. I support the bi-weeklies idea. We should have brackets (no entry fees) in addition to all the friendly matches. Work out some ratings. :]

I agree 100%

I'll try to come whenever i can if you're doing bi-weeklies. That'd be awesome

People would show up for the first 2 and then it would just be like me n Devon after that. People don't even show up to the monthlies.

Well I would probably come if the date for the monthlies was posted here more than 2-3 days in advance. And Im actually working on finding a good monthly venue atm for Brawl/Melee/Allstars. Since the two games share so many similarities, I felt having the two scenes come together for a monthly would be a good idea (and also I play them all so yeah lol).

After this semester I'm going to have a TON of free time. I'm going to have nothing to do besides work this semester. I'd be down for regular smash fests then.

I'd like to apologize for dropping the date on the monthly with such notice on you guys. Just so you all know. The monthlies are always the third week of every month. This week was an exception because some of us went to SCR and so we had to change the date.

If you guys want to grow your scene, doing 50 weeklies and monthlies isn't the solution. You want a unified scene. If you run events all the time, unless a majority has a strong desire to come out, your scene will get burned out.

TLDR; Monthlies are the third week of every month.

I'll support whatever the community wants. I'm just offering my place up if we need a smash haven.

I disagree with your assertion that players burn out. Look at the skilled communities. I know SoCal in particular held bi-weeklies for years. It's OK if someone needs a break or cannot make it every single time, but it is important to push the community and play the game often. The solution is simply more structure (having brackets to emulate tournaments and friendly matches with genuine critiques).

For next smashfest, I am going to setup my recording equipment. It really does help to watch yourself play after.

I'll let you guys decide, but I'm down for hosting bi-weeklies if you guys want to attend them. The next smashfest would be Feb 2.

Good. I'm tired of watching myself from 7 years ago. It definitely doesn't help to watch yourself that far back. LOL (If I had time-travel powers like OoT Link, then that might be a different story, though. XD)

EDIT: BTW, MeatIsMURDER, who exactly did you get to play in Melee so far last weekend?
