Playing any game at a level higher than beginner forces you to learn the subtleties of the game. It doesn't actually have anything to do with your main's tier.

Low tiers also have a crutch called mathup inexperience. Low tier mains can beat players that are clearly better than them because of matchup inexperience (sometimes none whatsoever) against their main.

Please don't think of yourself as a superior player who would beat everybody if only you liked a top tier just because you main a bottom tier character. It does not work that way.

EDIT: I'm trying to drop my secondaries, actually (not that I won't use the characters for fun). But when I shove my main into the arena with Kenny and promptly three-stock myself, and then pull out Gay (Toon Link, in your lingo) and win, there's a problem. (Its called my main, but I prefer not to think about that).
I need to get good enough with Link that I don't have to rely on TLink to save my butt every time. -_-

Rather than quitting, you should promote Balanced Brawl in Utah. Link is (hopefully) viable in BBrawl.

It's still in beta, but they're getting close to a final release and they finally have proper throw mods to replace the rather hackish (and bad looking) throw fixes they had before.

Edit: Unless you're quitting for other reasons, in which case you should just ignore this post.

Oh, then you can play Brawl+, Anonano, where the changes to characters like Link are actually significant enough to actually MATTER. It might take a little re-learning, but at least Brawl+ was willing to make the changes necessary to bump bottom-tier characters to be very viable in higher level play. Brawl+ Link has a fierce zoning game; he's a beast on the stage if you've mastered that.

Consider the no-nanner diddys; they're still almost as good, if not as good, as any nanner diddy player. Not because they've found some secret strategy with Diddy entirely apart from nanners; they just play Diddy like any generic character, focusing on spacing, zoning, and mindgames. Nanner Diddys tend to focus too much on what their nanners can do, than what Diddy is capable of even without them.

I consider myself one of these. Is that wrong? Dryu, you gotta teach me to use nanners more! Or force me to!

playing as a character such as link or................................................................fox requires that you as a player can compensate for what your character lacks, and there can be a point where the defecit created by your character may require an unnatural amount of talent from the player, so if there reaches a point where link can grow no further, but you can then all you will have gained is an excellent link, but skills as a player that might be better served elsewhere

You're right to a certain extent Ano, but your logic fails. Since I could easily show on of my high school friends how to CG with DDD and I'm sure, without a doubt, that they could beat your link. Was it because they are smarter at smash than you? No. It was because your character is simply trash and has such sever limitations that it doesn't matter how good YOU are. I do agree with you on players having a large affect on how well you do, but there is some matchups that don't require any skill/smarts of brawl. (i.e. DDD VS DK)

I do this with Falco now. I found out how good the CG is. This is what sets characters apart in the game. Sometimes even skill can't save you...

Don't worry about it. Utah is giving me a bad impression. I am still sad about leaving home and everyone I know back in NM, and coming to a forced religion university. But, family is family. Gotta do what they need. I am just hoping you guys are chill :D

Quitting competitive smash just because s*** like this gets thrown around isn't justifiable. If it's because you think you're Link feels inadequete around us, then don't. You gotta good Link. If it's because debates like these feel pointless, then that's true. No matter what, these tiers will exist. There will always be characters with more advantages than others. I once thought tiers didn't matter...until I picked up Snake and Diddy in Brawl, Marth in Melee, and Pikachu in 64. There is always a gap, and one of the benefits of playing so many characters is you find your set play style and stick with it. Learn it until you've become so good, that your name is on level with that character.

Whatever the reason is, you shouldn't quit because of it. Utah players never quit......until their missions...

So yeah...keep playing with us.

And thanks Eyada, I was actually looking quite deeply into BBrawl, but nothing's happened with it here in Utah. Nothing EVER happens here in Utah. Its a freaking Twilight Zone in regards to Smash.

And I DO consider taking crap a viable reason for leaving, just fyi. I keep putting my heart out there and getting snubbed for it. It won't happen again. I'm here to kick trash with Link, and earn some cash in the process. I'll stay, but find your own blasted tournies, I've taken too much crap to care about hosting a tourney anymore.

All of us have always agreed and appreciated what you have done to this smash scene, but just because no one comes out and says "Thank you" doesn't mean we don't care. We want you in this smash scene, seriously. At least I do, and if one small argument over the character you main is enough to make you quit smash then you honestly have no idea how much fun being the smash scene can be. You just gotta have motivation to improve and to money match! :D

You guys are trying to inspire the guy who came onto the scene 12 months ago bragging about his 500+ hours of gameplay vs level 9 CPUs? The guy who bragged that he would be placing high in tournies in no time at all? I think you are severely underestimating my willpower.
Once you guys get a steady stream of Smash events up and rolling again, you'll see just how much.

DRyu, stop there. You of all people should know that neither of those reasons you listed are altogether correct. Sure, they helped add up the problem, but it was bigger than that. I'm not *quite* that pathetic.

We're seriously not trying to snub you or give you crap. We really do appreciate you trying to get a tourney up and going.

But I think with mission calls going out, and school and work...and X being X, we just kinda space these out.

I'm sorry Ano for being so busy to not give you the proper gratitude. You are a valued member of our community, and have tried the hardest out of everyone here to get the tourney scene back open again. I thank you for trying your hardest, and if you decide to start back up, I will help you in any way possible.
