Because Melee players are absolute snobs about it.
I haven't seen much toxicity from them against newer games since like Brawl lol

If anything there's more toxicity towards Melee players if we go by the recent drama with Salem and such

My current most wanted newcomer isn't even a third-party

I'm not sure if I'm behind on certain news regarding Smash at this point or not, so can anyone here tell me if there's been a total confirmation that any characters who already exist as non-fighter Spirits aren't eligible newcomers, at this point?

Because if there hasn't been one, and until we do get one, I'm still holding out hope for the supporting heroine from my favorite video game. I already got one pirate, who so happened to be my other most wanted newcomer (:ultkrool:), now I just need the remaining character who falls under both of those same categories. Plus, I'd very much like to see Toon Link fight alongside his companion from his debut appearance.

Tetra aside, and going back to third-parties, I'd actually be really hyped about Sora, as well. KH is amazing, it's one of my favorite non-Nintendo game franchises, by far. I can easily imagine Sora with a fun and satisfying moveset in Ultimate.

Okay, so now that I've beaten Resident Evil 2 in every conceivable way (and taken a couple nights to get reacquainted with Revelations 2 because I still had an itch to scratch) I can't decide on the next game on my list of RPGs-I-bought-and-haven't-started-yet I should play. They're such time commitments I can't jump back and forth between them, so I should stick to one.
  • Bravely Default
  • Dragon Quest XI
  • Octopath Traveller
  • Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
  • Pandora's Tower
  • MS Saga: A New Dawn
Suggestions?
Dragon Quest XI.

Octopath is really really fun, so that's mine. The story lacks at times but it's perfect besides that.

I'm a bit sad that we don't have an eShop Medley in Smash
maybe eShop Bag will be in the pass and surprise everyone

I'll have to suggest Bravely Default.

It's also the only one I've played.

man octopath came so close to scratching that bravely itch but the story disconnect just got to me
yeah even though it does tie together in the endgame sometimes it felt like i was watching the avengers but instead of being a team-up movie it was all their standalone movies being played at the same time
like the only communication between the party was during optional easy-to-miss "takes place in a void" party chats and they were really ****ing good but they were handled so weirdly

ophlia and olberic just standing by as therion robs a place like "yeah no this is all good" in the party chats was just bizarre

didn't help when they just teleported out of existence the moment an important story moment happened or villain showed up, like i'm pretty sure the ending of ophilia chapter 3 would have gone a lot differently with 3 other people in the room with her

nah fam, Roxas, Ventus by extension or Riku is more like it
Xion literally plays identically to Sora. Roxas used to too at some point, but he slowly developed his own playstyle with dual wielding. Xion would make a lot of sense even canonically to be his echo. But yeah, Riku would be really cool too. I think Ventus isn't as likely as the other 3 though, dunno why.

This is what's made me hesitant on starting it. I bought it with a buy-two-get-one because I thought it would hold up its value long term and I got it cheap, but when I hear about how the story was handled regarding your party I just feel like it's a glorified RPG Maker indie on Steam.

the highlight was the combat system, though i'd prefer it used in a 'full' JRPG. it also paled a little next to bravely's in its restrictions - octopath had some depth but was pretty rudimentary, whereas bravely is versatile almost to the extreme of being able to break the game with pure cheese.

Able to break the game with pure cheese? Sounds like Dragon Age.

I'm listening.

there were jobs they literally had to remove in bravely second because people found ways to exploit the mechanics enough to make themselves invincible with them, and then people broke the game with the jobs they added in bravely second

the mechanics of each job cross over with multiclassing to a point where literally any combination has the potential to do some crazy game-breaking ****
