Mario Kart Ultimate:

Realistic: Huge roster with several courses spanning across all Mario Kart games

Possible: Huge emphasis on other Nintendo franchises. Kirby, Samus, Fox, Captain Falcon, Excitebiker, MACH ****ING RIDER CONTRERAS!!! and others join the race.

Let me dream: Pokemon join Mario Kart. Mewtwo is a playable racer, but he doesn't use a kart. He just flies around the track hovering close to the ground.
I agree

Okay. Crazy idea time.

You know how Microsoft is trying to be buddy-buddy with Nintendo and they already have two or three cross-platform games between them and apparently Xbox Live is coming to the Switch later as an app? Okay. So. Hear me out:

Diddy Kong Racing sequel. Available on both Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, starring Donkey Kong properties and Rare properties using the same engine as Mario Kart 8 for fluid feel and car transformations. We could get DK, Diddy, K. Rool, Funky, Cranky, Dixie, Tiny, Lanky, Chunky, Tiki Tong, Conker, Banjo&Kazooie, Tooty, Gruntilda, Joanna Dark, all the Battle Toads, one of the Viva Pinatas, ****in' Fulgore why not, and to top it off both Miis and the Xbox avatars.

And then it would sell like crazy because this **** is bananas.

The modern hate for Minecraft stems from a lot of different factors, but honestly I think much of it can be simplified to "this game is way too popular and has a trash fanbase full of immature kids".

Which is stupid because that's essentially claiming that the game on it's own and everything about it is bad all because of the people who play it, and/or the sheer amount of people who play it. You can't blame the game for any problems it's fanbase presents.

In recent years, I've seen tons of games (especially Indie ones) unfortunately fall victim to remarkably similar kinds and amnounts of incessant hatred. TV Tropes has an article for this situation, they've termed it "It's Popular, Now it Sucks!". Yes, you're perfectly free to have your own opinions, there's nothing wrong with not liking a popular piece of media on it's own, I shouldn't even have to explain that you're entitled to have your opinions. But what is wrong is shoving your hatred of the game down people's throats the minute someone brings it up or states they like it, as well as associating anyone who plays it with the "immature brat" stereotype that a lot of people hold in regards to the game's fanbase. Not only is that completely unfair, it's also entirely hypocritical to call the fanbase "immature" or "toxic" when you're going around spouting insults and rage over the game and it's fanbase at the drop of a hat.

I'm not accusing anyone here of exhibiting this particular behavior, but all around the 'net I've seen countless people who do act like that, and chances are most of you have as well, at least at one point. Personally, I'd advise doing everyone a favor, and that includes yourselves, and consider being a little more open-minded about the game, as well as the possibility of Steven getting in Smash, if you're not already. The game and it's fanbase get way more than enough hate and backlash as they are. Nothing good will come from contributing to it.
tbh I really don't understand why people hate games because of fanbases, yeah you have people in the Undertale community who make weird stuff and a lot of immature, toxic people in the Minecraft community when playing certain PvP servers and - oh wait, that's every community, I see no reason why they gotta hate the game using the fanbase as their reason. Some youtube vids for Minecraft can be weird but some animations seem good even with the weird bendy limbs, and there are some youtubers like CaptainSparklez who seem cool (at least imo).

Now if they're against Undertale because of Sans memes then they have no taste :shades:

For anyone else on Smashboards, this would be the game of the century.

For me? Well, I guess it's just not my cup of tea. There aren't many non-DK characters who I genuinely care about. I'd honestly prefer the extended DK crew joining Mario Kart over a crossover like this.

Same.
Mach Rider in MK would also be dope, tbh.

A huge, huge component of this is YouTube.

I have three younger siblings that are all in elementary school. They watch more YouTube than regular TV. The children's demographic on YouTube is HUGE. Some of those channels get as many views as Dunkey and JonTron get in an average upload, but with less effort and way greater frequency. One of the channels they watch is of a whole family, and they get millions of views each upload, and promotional trips to places like Disney. Some of the videos and channels are starring actual kids, too.

Of course, though, the content these channels produce is pretty unbearable to watch for anyone with any sense of maturity, and it always is about whatever's big with the kids currently. Years ago it was Minecraft, then Undertale, then Five Nights at Freddy's then Bendy and the Ink Machine, Hello Neighbor more recently it's Baldi or something (dark/disturbing games seem to be prime material to target at children, apparently), and also Fortnite. And these videos can take any form, so long as they're doing enough to engage young children and about one of those topics. Crappy songs, animations, live-action skits, whatever.

And because that content is so huge and numerous, that becomes the lens through which the game is viewed through, even if it's not really the game's fault. Though some games definitely do lean into that success, like FNAF, Bendy, and Hello Neighbor. Walk into a GameStop and you'll see merchandise for those games in some form. And when you take your kids to GameStop and they see that stuff, they'll want it.

If you want to make money on YouTube, sell your soul and target your content towards kids.
Baldi is sort of falling into that territory, but I'm not seeing it get it nearly as badly as FNaF, Minecraft, Fortnite or even Undertale have. It might be because Baldi is intentionally quirky, silly and surreal, and the creator made sure the game is as aware of that as he himself is. Any possible scares that can be attained from the game are very much YMMV, there's lots of self-awareness and fourth wall-breaks sprinkled throughout it,, and besides that, it's still just a single, short game that's currently still in development, so neither the game itself nor those types of Youtube content pertaining to it have really been oversaturated yet. That aside, all of those examples are still among the same games that came to my mind when I wrote that post, and I fully agree with it. I also agree with your point that Youtube's communities play a significant role in it.

I do think some of these channels can produce quality content, or at least entertaining content, getting the job done, but others...not so much. I have to admit, for one example, that I used to watch SkyDoesMinecraft a lot when I was younger, and looking back... I can't find entertainment out of his MC videos anymore. A guy who largely relied on screaming, panicking and anger for humor, all the while just showcasing mods he's come across, adding little, if anything else of any substance, is a guy whose content definitely reaches and entertains kids and young teens far, far more than any other demographic. And when kids get so much exposure to this stuff and have little supervision when on the internet, allowing them to spread this kind of stuff, people will grow tired of hearing about it all rather quickly. True indeed, it doesn't take long afterwards for people to associate all that content and the immature fans who spread it with the game as a whole, as well as the remainder of it's following.

I have to say, you've explained all of this really well and accurately. I wish things weren't this way, but this all these sort of things just sort of seem to happen to games that get popular nowadays, which I guess isn't much of a surprise when a fanbase has millions of people in it; people are sure to produce boatloads of content for it, and among it all, you're simply bound to find some bad apples and less than quality content here and there, excessive or not. Video games aren't even the only victims of this. Other forms of media can get this kind of flak for very similar reasons, if not the same ones (although I tend to see it happen to certain western animated cartoons, and a few blockbuster movie franchises more than any other kinds of media. Those, along with anime, which tends to get backlash in general, regardless of what specific show we're talking about.).

Okay, so now that I've beaten Resident Evil 2 in every conceivable way (and taken a couple nights to get reacquainted with Revelations 2 because I still had an itch to scratch) I can't decide on the next game on my list of RPGs-I-bought-and-haven't-started-yet I should play. They're such time commitments I can't jump back and forth between them, so I should stick to one.
  • Bravely Default
  • Dragon Quest XI
  • Octopath Traveller
  • Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
  • Pandora's Tower
  • MS Saga: A New Dawn
Suggestions?
